Substance use while you're pregnant has severe risks, both for the mother and the unborn child. But there is always hope, and services are available in Mississippi for pregnant women and parents with dependent children who are struggling with addiction.
Three providers certified and funded through the Mississippi Department of Mental Health provide admission to both parents and pregnant women with dependent children under age 5 if they have custody of dependent children or have lost custody but there is potential for family reunification:
- Catholic Charities (Born Free/New Beginnings), Jackson, MS
- Mississippi Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center, Biloxi, MS
- Region 6 CMHC Life Help (Fairland Center), Tutwiler, MS
The state's Community Mental Health Centers, along with several other certified and funded providers, prioritize admission for pregnant women and IV drug users. If a bed or outpatient treatment is not available within 48 hours, referral for prenatal care, counseling and education will be provided.
