Alaskan Milling less-rotten pine this week for studs and rafters. The pine along with the Grandberg chainsaw mill makes great dog house building materials. Kuiper, my Bernese Mountain Dog puppy is going to have a fantastic tiny house attached to my tiny cabin!

I am sure Ryan could have used an actual milling machine considering the number of logs he has and is milling now. The lifting arm is certainly good to see in order to give his back some relief, but still a lot of back breaking work. Something to consider in the near future as he will need a lot of boards for the kitchen and who knows what else he will come up with like building a bedroom and bathroom extensions to the cabin after-all he is not getting any younger. LOL 🤣😂😅😀 I like whatever he builds. A wall door for the dog-house is a great idea!!! Take care.

Noticed you were dragging the blunt edge of logs behind your wheeler. Just be careful... When you feel that edge dig into the ground and you're accelerating at the same time, you can loosen up the clutches internally and cause them to fail. Best to t Elevate the leading edge or use a trailer of some sort. Ask me how I know!

I was wondering if you are waiting for the floor to dry before insulating it, like the rest of the cabin. Also, might I suggest that the side you wanted as a door be a ramp, hinge down, with a separate screened and barred inner door that would swing to the cabin wall horizontally. If the wall becomes a ramp, and an inside screened door is a bear/bug barrier, you can lower ramp and open screen to exit, leave ramp down but bug/bear screen closed to keep insects, unwanted bears, and porcupines out, or close it up, might be an idea. The other side, just an upper triangle under the roof, a hinged down shutter with a screen, would provide ventilation. Love the video's.

As for marking on wet lumber, and everything else, there is a German company that makes a mechanical lumber marking pencil. It is graphite based and called Pica-Dry Longlife Automatic Pencil 3030. Works for me.

We always used a pointed nail to scribe a line on a wet and even real rough boards to mark a cut. We used lots of “ Box 16s” thinner shank than a common 16 penny nail.

You dont have to make the whole wall swing out. Do just enough to be big enough for him to get in and out. Attach the stationary part on the cabin side. That cuts down the weight of the door...

Add a writhing knife to the set up. Just a flat bar as thick as your chain dragging one half to one inch behind it. Keeps the kerf open but not too far. Sometimes wedges can open the gap a bit much.

@surviving ringworm Ryan, have you tried the brand stabilo pencils? Black is the most common color but you can get them in other colors like white, yellow, red, etc but you can find them in the stationery and or art section. They will mark on wet wood 🪵 and anything you've got. Appreciate all your ideas 💡 and taking us along your journey. Have a great week!

I would not be concerned with cold temperatures too much. BMD are well suited to the cold, but have problems with heat. With a full winter coat your comfortable room temperature will be sweltering to him. If you insulate the walls and floor, all it will take is a flap door for him to enter/exit at his leisure, particularly with the shared wall giving him some heat. A magnetic strip door would provide a good seal and still offer easy passage. Dry, insulated and sealed from drafts will be more than enough in the coldest nights if he is outdoors all the time. For the other dogs it might be too cold if they are not acclimated to being outside all time - they might be best indoors if that is where they are all the time. The only question is if he will be on a lead to keep him from wandering.

4/12 is lowest pitch allowable for standard asphalt shingles, if you want to go lower you have to underlay it with ice and water shield to keep it from leaking due to ice dams.

Make the dog door as a ramp? Make it square for ease of construction. You could even just let it down onto some strong steps to form a deck! The floor is stronger to hinge from than the cabin wall too. Just a thought mate.

Flashing is normally used to protect your cabin wall where the dog house connects to it. You would also use it in the vertical wall part if you had of done the two different pitched roofs.

If you could put make it square, then you can put a rain gutter on it and a fifty five gallon barrel right there.Filling up with it with just an overflow, sticking out the back of it, then you'll always have water for your dog

Hey Ryan why don't you try using a women's eyeliner pencil??? That might work for ya as a way to mark the wet wood? It may be what your looking for & they are pretty cheap. Are you sure it's going to be big enough for all? That pup is getting big. I had a yellow lab once all 90 lbs of her and she barely fit on her XL bed. Still miss her. You are going to need dog beds, 3 sometimes. You always entertain me with your thought process. Start at the hip and just keep going. But it always works out. Have a blessed day!

You trying to figure the end wall i would place a 2×4 to the bottom of the end rafter then i would run my layout on the bottom plate then take a level and transfer my layout too top plate that is nailed too the bottom of the rafter . Then take a 2×4 that runs a little longer then it is from plate to plate on the layout marks then trace your angle cut and nail in place and then move on to the next stud and repeat intill finished or you could temporarily screw both plates down do layout , mark all studs to be cut ,Then remove plates nail studs in place stand end slid it into place

Try a Pica mechanical pencil. They have multiple color and material replacement leads. I have had luck using them with my sawmill.

@@dadmezz4024 20 Mule Team Borax will also KILL many insects in the home, it is non toxic too. I lived in FL and knew someone in the pest control business. For flea infestation nothing tops THIS. That is if you prefer not to live with chemicals that contain nerve toxins. It kills ants and roaches too, but you need to mix in something to attract them like sugar. It is non-toxic.

I think you can get a tile pencil, they come in differant colors. They are wax like and should mark on wet wood.

OX or maybe it's blue ox makes a Mechanical pencil / led carrier. They have pencil, red, white, and yellow. The colors are crayons and work on wet wood. Got mine at the blue box store.

I said it on the last video that you used your log lifter, but in case you hadn't seen it yet, I'll comment again: If you add another bolt just past the last pulley that you have, hook the end of your cable to that and attach your log tongs to a pulley between those 2, you can cu the amount of weight that the 4 wheeler is pulling/lifting in half. It will take twice as long, but it will help with it lifting up when you pick a log up.

If you get ants in the cabin, mix a little borax with corn syrup. Put it out for the ants, out of reach of Kuiper. They will eat some and take it back to their colony and share with their friends.
