Who doesn't at some point dream of moving to the wilderness with nothing but a pile of tools, a chainsaw mill and a sense of humor just to see what would happen?
In early 2020 Ryan (who at the time thought he had the skin disease, ringworm) bought some remote property in Michigan with no roads, power or water- just trees. He and a friend who he had known since high school decided to grab their tents and move there to live for as long as it was fun. The friend eventually had to return to work but Ryan was enjoying himself too much to leave. He still lives in the woods, alone, and entertains himself by building ridiculous structures using only a chainsaw and a few hand tools.
In the event that you'd like to see Ryan continue living in a tent and building worthless stuff with a chainsaw, see the Patreon link below (or one-time support at Paypal.)

Alaskan sawmills are a pricey and a pain to set up. Bar will slip and destroy a $40 chain. For big logs, I use diy - 12" wide board, 2 - 12" bolts and drill holes in bar. Simple, rock solid and works great. For 12" logs, I use a side chainsaw milling setup w/ side loading which is much faster and easier on the back.
Ryan looks good from here in The Helderbergs in Upstate NY. FYI I have the Ryobi 18 volt and USB hot glue guns and they work great! Especially the no cord to wrangle.
You’re not a wimp for protecting your physical body Ryan, you’ll need it when you get my age,76 yrs young. There’s only so much a body can endure, watch those bones. You have an awesome mind to build awesome things, think about it. Most people don’t think about what’s happening on the inside of our bodies! TAKE CARE!
Is it possible to turn up your volume so people who watch on smaller devices don’t need to raise there volume to full force to get your voice,s at a decent volume, thanks
Hey guys,my thoughts,my opinion of course! Most animals in the forests in this world know all about the ,”BIG BANG “noises relate to,”DEAD”! A method to your madness in your shooting of your guns would certainly keep most eating animals away,”BIGFOOT” not so sure there smart these “ALFA MALES!
I am a qualified gas engineer in the UK and was looking at the video. I think you have built the structure to close to your gas fire flue outlet. There is a minimum clearance needed to prevent the buildup of flue exhaust gasses around the outlet, the required clearances should be provided by the fire manufacturer.
Ryan! I found a cool wireless fence for the pooch. Check out “spot on”. Looks pretty good, works off of gps instead of a buried wire. Walk the boundary with the unit to set parameters, save and your pup is free to roam inside your set boundaries. It uses a collar so….. it’s an interesting choice. Good luck!
This is truly the most heartwarming and genuine thing I've ever witnessed. Many people don't realize that before bureaucracy and regulations, it was simply about living within one's means. For young individuals just starting out, this often feels unattainable. However, what you’re doing offers hope, especially since many believe they will never be able to afford their own homes in this economy. You’re proving the skeptics wrong! Ryan, does Sarah like to swing, I just bet if you built her one she’d swing. There’s an art to swinging for sure, I’m 76 years young and still enjoy having a swing or two. I never did go completely around, came close, chickened out! It’s a challenge for sure! Thanks. Enjoy your builds!
Here’s a question concerning your puppy. What’s his name, say it slowly, where did you get his name from! His markings are awesome, nice looking dog. Was the breed expensive? He is a pure breed? Your truly fortunate to have Such a great dog.
Your desk turned out great. Have you tried Stonecoat countertop epoxy? They have a deep pour version for projects. Check out their videos for rivertop tables, too.
What I have found works well with notty cedar is a sealing coat using an acid brush for the deep holes and a foam brush for the top surface. Do this first, let it set, then do your top coat pour spread with a spatula and let it self level. Use a heat gun to remove bubbles. I really like your channel. Keep up the awesome content!
I have wood counters and tables and have lived with them for years. You need to do moisture test on the wood so you don’t get any white fogging on the epoxy. You need to seal both sides to stabilize the wood. Top should have several coats of epoxy, sand between coats. At least wash the blush off the last pour or you won’t get proper bonding. Sand the top down to 250 and then put coat of floor varnish over the epoxy to protect it from uv even inside. You can then recoat it every couple of years to get rid of the scratches. My counters are now over 10 years old. That old palm sander makes good vibrator for concrete. When you do large surfaces a window squeegee works well.
