Hi Russell. I own the JDM version of this watch, Sbdy113, purchased second hand in Japan. I like it too, particularly the touch of red on the black dial. Just like you (and others), I love Seiko. Nice review. 👍🇨🇵
I got the blue one with a leather strap, and it's one of my favourite watches. It looks particularly good in bright light (a bit washed out in low-light), so it got a lot of wrist time last summer. I waited until it was on sale because I thought that almost £500 was too much, but given how much I like it, it would have been worth the full price. The strap seemed stiff at first, but unlike other Seiko leather straps, this one has been okay. My only niggle is that although they have ground-to-air codes for "need medicine" and "need food", they're missing the vital - "need beer".
Can’t argue with this being one of the best sub £500 Seikos out there! Sapphire crystal too! I’m never much of a fan of a compass bezel (I’d always much rather a timing bezel even on a non diver) but it’s a talking point for sure. Great stuff as always MWC 👍
It's on my 'to get' list. I don't own a diver, as i don't dive. But as someone who works in the bush, i genuinely would use the compass bezel for orientation purposes (although i do carry a compass, GPS, and mobile...just having this as a back-up is great, though obviously any normal watch can be used to discern the direction)
Another suggestion Richard! I'm a mountain man myself and for a great all purpose tool watch built like a tank, check out the G-Shock Mudmaster GG-1000, with a very accurate compass and even a temperature guage. Mine fell 20m down a gully when my butter fingers dropped it checking directions and was as good as new. I'm a Seiko fanboy myself but this Seiko wouldn't survive that drop! I've just ordered the GWG-2000 online today as it also has an altimeter and barometer and is solar powered.
Bought this one 2 month ago, for about 450€, and it is beautiful watch. It is always on my wrist, and it is very precise. For 2 weeks it got about 60 sec. And the dial is great with that subtile sunburst. It looks great from any angle.
Bought an SSK003 a few months back and love it. Have been looking for a black dial GADA watch since then to accompany it and this ticks every single box, and yet I'd never heard of it. Just picked it up for £442 in a Black Friday deal. Perfect. Thanks 👍
Thanks for the review! I bought this watch! I had decided to go back to a mechanical watch after having a Garmin glued to my arm for the last 4 years. I was leaning toward a Turtle, which a friend of mine has, and I admired, but was hesitating due to the size. This episode was the first review of yours that I watched, and I figured the shape was perfect, the size was ideal, and I don't dive anyway so the bezel is just for looks. I recieved it 3 days ago and absolutely love it.
Really like this one! I nearly pulled the trigger on the SRPG13 earlier this year; that's the beige dial Tort-Terrapin. Ended up picking up an SPB121 Alpinist for an absolute steal new, so the money went to that instead!
Great video, Mr. MWC! I don't know if I had to thank or to damn you, cause you are the guy who brought me to my seiko-addiction! Since years I am following your chanel and you brought countless Seikos (and other watches for that matter) into my home... The last time it was the Arnie and the Landshark! This might be another contender... So thanks a lot a greetings from a fan of your art! Greetings from Hamburg, Getmany Philip :-)
Love mine. Perfect size, very comfortable, superb legibility, excellent lume. You have to pay a lot more to get any other Seiko with sapphire crystal, making this the best value Seiko in their range in my opinion!
bought a black and gold version of this last summer. I love it. Thickness. The fit. The pseudo-willardness. Compliment monster. I've never had so many compliments on a watch. Best 500 bucks I've ever spent!
45% off during this black week in Norway. I’m just about to push the buy button. It’s going to be my first analog watch since I was a kid in the 80s. Haven’t used a watch since the iPhone 3G. Will I like using a watch? Will an IWC Mark XX be my next? Ai, ai, ai …
My Terapin was a winning ticket in the Seiko lottery. Plus/minus 1-2 seconds a day. And it looks and feels so nice. Removed the bracelet and put it on a nato-strap. The winding felt quite cheap at first, but seems to have improved by time. I’m in love.
Great review! I just ordered one of these bad boys off Chrono for $284 USD incl shipping to NZ brand new with box and papers. Cannot wait to get it on the wrist.
Hi my favorite mad watch reviewer, I mostly collect g shocks and Casio. I bought a Seiko and was wondering on your honest opinion on it. It's a 5 sports auto, black we Milanese strap, SRPD73K1, got it for 249.00 pound. Thankyou
I happen to own this watch. Ironically, it's the only Seiko I currently own among the 30 or so watches in my collection. I purchased it after returning an ice blue Speedtimer that failed the "readable at a glance" standard due to its colorway. The "Tortoise" meets that standard with flying colors. And speaking of colors, my version has a combination of white and gold indices, compass points, and handset on a flat black dial. It came with a black leather strap that I replaced with a suede version in a "gingerbread" shade that matched the color of the indices and handset. Personally, I think the look is far from ordinary. Unusual but not gaudy. Further, the watch performs surprisingly well, typically losing less than 3 seconds over twenty-four hours. All in all, I consider the watch and strap to be a great buy at less than $400 USD.
OMG!!!!😂 Every video you post is so entertaining and so informative - Thank you for your awesome reviews!! This again was just classic brilliance …..fantastic review! Well Done! 😁👌
I got mine about a year ago for not much over $300 maybe closer to that Mark you can't beat that for a deal I just wish that they put some ar coating on the sapphire
TMWC you probably know this, but the other brother SRPG13 with that cream and green convo is a real good looking fella. Such a shame that Jomashop does not have it, but is a really nice piece. Keep up the good work!!
Really like this watch, if someone randomly said “Seiko” to me this is the sort of watch I would picture in my mind. Tortoises are really quite fast too😂. Think I liked it more with the non metal strap too.
I like it as it blends that line between sport and dress, which is difficult. I think the SNE575 is better looking, though, but that's just my opinion. :)
I have the green version and I use it daily! For 370€ have everything I need, and the sapphire cristal make it even better. Bought it with -2s/d and now runs +-0, so can't complain with this 4r. IMO it's an underrated time piece.❤
Great review as usual. Kept me smiling till the very last second. Although the watch is nothing special but it really gives you a feeling of a classic Seiko, which is definitely 👍
Great review, as always Russel! Beautiful Seiko, it's like a Seiko fieldwatch land Turtle with the compass bezel. And i love some good hieroglyphics on the caseback 😉
Love your channel. To the seiko.. its very good to get saphire on this price👍🏻. I wisch my presage 60‘s Style have saphire but only hardlex and so i got many scratches on it because the glas was higher them the bezel…🙄🙄 but bro!!!! Today k have buy the tudor black bay 58 and you videos was helping ro get my desicion. I love it and i domt want to have any other watch yet. Thx and greetings from Austria.
Tortoise, Terrapin or Turtle hmm all have shells. Something I won’t be doing, shelling out for that one! Soz Russ, good spot though… in the mood for a beef burger now for some reason? 😆
I do like the negative date feature and wish more watches used that format because it’s much easier to read but I don’t think I would buy this watch. Thanks for sharing it and have a great day!
No, MWC, why did you call this the terrapin? Because the SRPC35, -37, -39 and -41 are the terrapins, since they're actual dive watches. Tortoise is perfect because this one has the compass bezel.
Nice watch. I want it!!! Great review too. I love Seiko. Let me know if you ever take a group of subscribers on a tour of their factory. Would be a blast!💥
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR That I don’t know. I looked up the sales location ( since the address is stamped in the warranty card ) and it turned out to be the illusive Grand SEIKO studio in Northern Japan. And it runs within 5 to 7 seconds per day.
... And the misaligned bezel just like a true Seiko, oh wait, it's a friction bezel 😂 It kind of looks like a mini-turtle with the crown of a turtle. I've seen in Amazon this model but in a green bezel insert and it looks attractive, and at a good price too... It's a very overlooked seiko because it already have a couple of years. But, here's my hot take🔥: I prefer some of the Seiko 5's model 😅 Thank you for the video.
People go on about Seiko not signing their screw-down crowns, but I find it profoundly unsatisfying when a signed crown doesn't end up logo right-side-up once screwed down, *which is every signed screw-down crown I've ever handled.* My Presage has a signed non-screw-down crown, plus the Seiko S is the same up or down, so it's easy to line up.
Seiko make great watches but i really miss their LCD and digital-analogue ranges of years past, they seemed to have surrendered that market to my other favourite brand - Casio
I've seen this one this weekend in real person, it was ma favorite Seiko of the shop ! xD buuuut.... the bezel wouldn't be very usefull for me, the minutes are more usefull than the direction for my needs. Definitively adore those hour markers, I need to have a Seiko.
i like it russ...alittle more discreet than the turtle..day before yesterday i picked up the new padi samurai...mate...mate the dial..for £550? its nearly gs level of pretty. alright by the time i put a hex bracelet from strapcode it will nearly stand me in 650..you should defo check out the 2023 padis if u havent already(turtle and the sumo look tasty as well)...this tortoise is alot more gada like you say...can see it looking nice on a few different natos tho!..top vid bruv!
I've stopped collecting seiko prospex watche's with 4r movements the accuracy is very disappointing usually only just within spec plus plagued with alignment issues even the hour hand on my King turtle was off by 5 minutes !!
I bought this exact model for the reason that I wanted a mini turtle in the same colour. This tipped the scale for me because of the dial symmetry and the sapphire crystal. The only downside is the clasp. I can accept the stamped because it’s seiko but I wish it had a fold over and not just buttons. Otherwise I absolutely love it. Cheers
I have been spouting on the land tortoise models being the best Seiko’s for 2 years now. Finally you all are noticing. They are my favorite watches. I have the blue with canvas strap, toupe green with canvas strap, the one in this video, the usa special edition with gray dial and a second usa gray dial I am moding with a white dial. I pray Seiko stops coming out with new ones as I don’t know if my wallet can take it.
Nice job as always Russ. I considered one of these a while back but was a bit “meh” myself- but you can’t argue that this one is a great value for sure. You get a lot for not too much cash 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I love my Seikos... but I absolutely HATE the 6R35. I've had two WAY out of spec; one was replaced under warranty just to be WAY out of spec, too. Another just stopped working (the only one out of 4 that was in spec). Despite being miffed so many times... I'll probably buy this regardless. The 4r35 hasn't disappointed yet... just always needs some regulating.
