In the U.K. we have “car boot sales” which is the same concept but lots of people selling their stuff out of their cars in a middle of a field. This is one of the things I miss now that I’m in China. It was a great way to buy things like books for cheap (and to hit the jackpot like Jared 😉)
I’m glad to hear that! Thank you for your support! You can also go check out my second channel(if you haven’t yet) for more Chinese language stuff! ru-vid.com Cheers!🍻
Going to thrift stores has been part of my routine now. I got a book on the very first page of which were handwritten words left by grand parents to their grandson. The book was obviously a birthday present some 30 years ago and it looked never read. Judging by the date and the age, I guess the grandparents have probably passed away. Old stuffs with human touch are sometimes making new owners sentimental.
We also went to the township wide garage sales. And also stopped at the house with the creepy yellow doll. Wish we were there at the same time. Would've been too shy to say hi.
Lol. I knew how much that Lego was worth before you checked later in the vid. Any adult oriented lego will be expensive as it goes out of print after a few years.
I had no idea that garage sales weren't a thing in China. That's really interesting. I wonder what they do to get rid of stuff they don't want or need anymore. Edit: Now that I think about it, I guess any densely populated area would be a difficult place to have a garage sale.
Cause if you put your things outside your home, maybe the Chengguan will come to give you a fine haha. BTW, Chengguan is a kind of urban management officer whose responsibility is to make the street clean.
@@sampsonleo7475 man, it is illegal almost anywhere. Did you notice it will have another name called yard sale? They are placing the thing on their own property, and inviting ppl to the private property.
Selling old books requires a license without which you risk ending up being fined or, if the topics are politically sensitive, detained ... that's just outlandish to ppl outside the PRC
What's the app you're using to search for all the on-going garage sales?!! LOL i need one! Barely find any garage sales in Toronto! But I'm sure there are lots out there haha
Its a city wide garage sale. There is a date and if you wanna sell something you add your address to the city's site. We went garage sale hopping too that day and saw creepy yellow doll.

City wide garage sale. There's a date and everyone who wants to sell something puts their address on the website. We went too and drove around all morning. Saw the house with the creepy yellow doll too. Didn't get it so I guess Jared and his sister went after us.
