After so many Film Perfection episodes, it's time we cover arguably the greatest movie ever made: 2014's I, Frankenstein. The movie is a big budget blockbuster starring Harvey Dent Aaron Eckhart and other big name actors like Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean. It is also a cinematic masterpiece with loads of useful lessons to learn. I know I joked around with that in my The Tomorrow War video but this time it's obviously real. Oh and it also stars Yvonne Strahovski so maybe there's some kind of a consistency there. So, let's speedrun through I Frankenstein and take lessons on how to make the perfect movie. There's a great filmento cut segment as well! Also, this might be my last video for obvious reasons so hope you enjoy.

I have no idea how someone managed to take a character like Frankenstein and attempt to superherofy him. Imagine if Jack Sparrow was frozen in ice Captain America style and ended up tangled in a modern cult plot that had him saving the day and "protecting humanity". This is so out there and random it feels automatically generated. It's not even a cool idea, the "why" overshadows any edgy coolness it may have
@wray272
@wray272 2 года назад
@@anecro Idk man revamping old monster stories can be fun and entertaining. Its not really turning him into anything hes not, hes a superhuman being already plus there's tons of stories of just normal dudes saving humanity so its not unheard of. its an objectively bad movie but some people find aspects of it that are enjoyable. And remember when this movie came out, it wasnt surrounded by mcu movies like we are now.
@anecro
@anecro 2 года назад
@@wray272 Revamping is one thing, taking something like Frankenstein's monster, a story about a corpse coming back to life and slowly learning to love and throwing it into another world-threatening scenario where he has to save the world begs the question of why even using Frankenstein's monster in the first place. This is just a buff protagonist that could've been a robot or someone who sold his soul and nothing would change. It's bizarre and so far removed from what it originally is that it's just unnecessary to use the character.

in all seriousness I did enjoy three small things about this movie: -Aaron Eckert played a good anti-hero. One line that stood out was when he killed a gargoyle and the guy said "God will damn you for this", to which Frankie boy stoicly replied "He already has". The delivery was solid, I liked it. -The concept: Frankenstein's monster (who was actually portrayed as more faithful to the original novel than typical movies) being forced to live hundreds of years as an outcast and is secretly killing demons is a pretty cool idea for a movie -Lastly they incorporated Kali martial arts/stick fighting which is something I've wanted to see in a lot of action movies, but sadly it's not as prevalent. So props to them for that. It's still not a movie I can easily sit through, but those parts I unironically did like

With the exception of Robert De Nero’s version, which is the most faithful adaptation that I know of

@apenasmaisumdiogo.7115 2 года назад
Agreed, this portrayal of the creature is much more accurate than most film adaptations. The Universal film is inspired by a play that made quite some big changes, and thus, the movie happens in a much shorter span than in the novel. In the book, the Creature also is born confused and not knowing how to speak, but over the course of some months in the wild, he teaches himself to read and speak by secretely listening to a family, and becomes as eloquent and intelligent as Victor Frankentein. The movie never showed him learning though, and thus the image that got stuck in pop culture is the Frankenstein's Monster being an eternal dumb and childish brute rather than a smart and self-aware figure.

You see, the filmmakers figured that almost nobody would want to live in a city where it's always nighttime, so they made sure this is accurately represented in the movie. @@gman7774 I personally think that acting is defined by how real and relatable you are able to make a performance. For this movie it really did seem like a real story playing out, something that would happen in real life. There isn't a set goal or direction, just a greater objective the characters are trying to get to. I came out of the movie unsatisfied, but after rewatching it I realized that the film was something that a lot of people could heavily relate to when it came to conversations. it all seemed so real and I think that's why it got so many awards. You can write the best dialogue known to man but you have to have good delivery.

Watching this video made me think of a different pitch for this movie. Let me know what you guys think: Instead of having an antagonistic relationship with Frankenstein, Adam devleops more of a father-son relationship with him that is showcased in the first 10 minutes. But the local villagers heard about Frankenstein's experiments and went to kill him and his creation. Frankenstein gives Adam his notebook and tells him to protect it, but Adam doesn't want to leave him. Frankenstein then knocks him out or something and sends him away. At this point the villagers catch up with him and sacrifices himself to buy Adam time. Once Adam recovers he is understandably upset and begins mourning, but then Demons see and try to attack him and steal the book. Adam gets kicked around a bit, but is saved by the Gargoyles who were tracking the Demons. A similiar scene like in the movie plays out without the useless exposition and Adam desires to train so he can fight against the Demons. He gets that training, with some timeskip. He has now developed a close relationship with some of the Gargoyles and instead of having the woman doctor be the romantic interest, it can be one of the Gargoyles. They ask him to stay with him and fight for humanity, but Adam has no desire for it. He despises humanity after what they did to his father and instead chooses to live as a nomad, wandering around the world protecting the one thing his father left him. The Demons want the book for the same reason as the movie, but now Adam has it and is actively protecting it while also isolating himself from humanity. Again, no useless voice over exposition. Instead we see the passage of time with just the change in settings. He has returned to the city where the Gargoyles are stationed because they called for him. He arrives to meet up with the Gargoyle love interest, banter and chemistry are exchanged, yadayada. She tells him that the Demons are becoming more bold, being more aggressive taking random humans off the street. Instead of having the Demons call forth some random Demon army, the head Demon is trying to resurrect his overpowered Demon Lord father so that they can destroy the world together. The love interest wants Adam to hand over the book for safekeeping. Adam refuses, but they are ambushed by Demons and Adam is captured. The Gargoyle love interest manages to get the book from him before the Demons captured him. Now, Adam is captured and is being interrogated by the Demons. The Head Demon tries to tempt him by telling him that he can resurect Frankenstein in exchange for the book. Frankenstein feels tempted, after all humanity are who killed his father and he still resents them for it. But before he could come to a decision, he is rescued by the Gargoyles. Unfortunately, they put a tracker on Frankenstein so they could track him and lead them right to the book. Frankenstein meanwhile will have a disagreement with his love interest about why he should care about humanity and why he shouldn't take up the Head Demon's deal. The love interest is meant to not only show a more developed love interest, but also show him the good in humanity. The Demon's attack the stronghold, which is hidden from the rest of the world instead of smack in the middle of the city. Fight breaks out, then the love interest is severely wounded and the Demons manage to acquire the book. Adam decides to join up with the rest of the remaining Gargoyles to take it to the Demon stronghold. Now the Demons are in the city but only because they are using the old equipment of Frankenstein, as well as some modern upgrades, to try to resurrect the Demon Lord. It's important that they recovered everything from Frankenstein's old laboratory for later on. Throughout the movie, we can see the Head Demon is like Adam in that he loves his father and he wants him back. This creates a parallel where the Head Demon is like a dark reflection of Adam. Now the captured people are meant to be a sacrifice; providing the souls necessary for the resurrection. They begin the ritual but are interrupted by the Gargoyles and Adam. A fight ensues, some of the humans are set free, and the Head Demon and Adam square off. The Head Demon once again tempts Adam with the resurrection of Frankenstein, but Adam is not having it. A fight between them happens while the Gargoyles try to stop the ritual. Both of these things are happening at the same time with the Gargoyles taking on the big battle while Adam and the Head Demon have the more intimate battle. The Head Demon starts to win, but before he give the final blow, he becomes distracted by one of the freed humans. They saw how Adam came and saved them from the ritual and when they saw he was in danger, they step in to save him. This momentary distraction provides Adam with recovery he needed to finally take down the Demon. The big bad is down, he says something about getting to see his father again, and the Gargoyles are able to stop the ritual. Adam, in the aftermath, looks through his father's notes from salvage that the Demon's took and saw a letter addressed to him. Saying that he hoped that Adam would become the best of humanity and that he hoped that Adam would be a source of good in the world. Inspired by both this note and his love interest, who recovers from his injuries after having saved Adam earlier, he decides to finally stop hiding away from humanity and become its active protector along with the Gargoyles. And that's it. That is my pitch about a revised I, Frankenstein.
