Ok, I wish I could agree… I really really do… but my body developed early & I had large breasts when I was 13…. An older guy approached me & asked how old I was, I said 13, and he said you don’t look 13…. And then began a very wrong manipulation leading to multiple rapes…. He didn’t see me as a 13 year old GIRL but as as a sexy looking shape…. I didn’t have the boundary skills to get away & my parents got tricked (or in my secret heart I don’t think they wanted to believe this kind of thing really happened in their neighborhood so they never taught me anything about getting away from a sexual predator…) Anyway once that was over, my only thought was I don’t want to look “sexy” - I was TOO YOUNG & guys didn’t seem to care about age, only shape… so gaining weight DID appear to attract less “sexual/lust” attention. It’s all I could think of to do…. And even if somehow it didn’t work, like you say it’s “BS”, I felt it was a bit of armor, and I desperately needed protection, boundaries, protective functional parental figures. 🌟🌟🌟 So when you say it’s “BS”, please please don’t forget unprotected kids….. “VULNERABILITY ISN’T FREEDOM” to a kid being targeted for abuse. Vulnerability with STRONG boundaries can be freedom. To make such a black & white statement is sad to me because it doesn’t include my childhood experience or challenges some of today’s kids experience. Please at least mention us. If it’s BS, then at least the illusion of armor by gaining weight to not attract ALL the predators gave me that small feeling of control over my life (even if you want to prove to me in this video that was BS)… it helped me not consider suicide as a young girl targeted by older, clever-er abusers “I know better, I do better.” Yes, but not if you’re an innocent kid who, due to life circumstances, COULD’T have known better. Please try thinking of your “argument” from the perspective of a young girl. I know you’re kind and want the best for everyone. Please don’t forget me or people like me.

As a survivor, I totally agree with you. It’s really easy for him to say this not knowing the ways abuse has manifested in us. Mine was through drug and alcohol abuse (gratefully 30 yrs sober now). I also know many women who have used weight as a way of protecting themselves. His mansplaining is really annoying here and I think I’ll stick to his Covid videos.

I put on so much weight after age 40. Life just happened and I no longer allow them to be excuses. 2/20/21 I was disgusted with myself to be morbidly obese. So that day I started therapeutic low carb lifestyle. Since that time I’ve shed 100#. I have 12# to shed to have normal BMI. What I did was stop the excuses and gave up the carbs. I didn’t want gastric surgery since so many people I know that have done so have regained majority of what they had lost. There have been less than 5 days in 14.5 months that I ate over 20 TOTAL not net carbs in a day. I love how I have my life back at 69 yrs old. I live not having all my joints ache. Losing majority of my body’s pain is the best incentive to keep on my journey. So guys, give up the excuses. Life will continue to go on until u die. Remember whatever it is you”can’t give up”, you can’t until you do. Take care of yourself for you and they off the excuses!!

Dr. V., obesity makes me invisible. The invisibility helps me with my day to day. No cat calls, men not making remarks under their breath, no creepy looks. I don’t need that crap or deserve it. But you’re right, lovingly, we need to get to a healthy weight. 😘

@ImKelliJones
@ImKelliJones 2 года назад
@@DoctorVuong People do not give you any where near as much attention in some ways. And you don’t have to be heavy enough to break a chair in order to lower male attention with weight gain. You do become almost invisible with the kind of attention this comment describes, which I’m not sure you can fully understand. And I know there’s people who are attracted to all sizes, but my personal experience was that gaining weight greatly lowered that kind of attention. For me, realizing that I gained weight to get less male attention in this way, wasn’t to excuse becoming obese, but instead it helped me know what to fix so that I could get my full life back. I usually really like your videos, and I agree we shouldn’t let excuses or reasons or casting blame let us stay where we don’t want to stay. But this is truly more complicated psychologically than I think you fully understand. Gaining the knowledge about myself wasn’t as an excuse, but as a way to understand what happened so that I could change it. No judgment though. I understand it’s super hard to understand some things that I can see must appear really odd to outsiders who haven’t been there. I wish you best. I hope you have a nice day.

@@DoctorVuong as a cis het male, you don’t understand the lack of safety that comes with the unwanted sexual attention males say/do to women. What about adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)? What about the impact of trauma on the body and mind? My problem with your discussion is the application of logic to justify obesity as it relates to the human mind and body. According to your argument, no one would suffer from post traumatic stress disorder and people with high adverse childhood experience scores would not have higher incidences of substance abuse, autoimmune disorders, heart disease etc. Trauma is real and its impact on the human mind and body is real. More and more doctors are starting to acknowledge the role that trauma plays in poor health outcomes. Trauma is truly the gateway drug to adverse health outcomes.

As I've watched many of his videos I had the same thoughts - but I think the point is to find other ways to heal and to manage emotions than eating. I've been thinking about this a lot and I think the point is that we don't gain weight to "put on armor" it's more like the weight is a side effect of eating as a coping skill. Trauma is real but there are ways to heal and be healthier.

So glad to see you return to weight loss vids. They were a big reason I felt comfortable undergoing surgery. This one really made me self-reflect. I didn't gain weight because of anybody or anything but me. I just enjoyed eating. Period. I was thin as a teen but I could eat and eat and still be thin. Then in a year or two that changed, but my habits didn't. No excuses. It's great that after less than a year following my R-N-Y bypass I have reached my ideal weight again, but I still have to work on changing bad habits. My life is on me now and I had better change the rest or I might as well have kept all that weight on.

I've had insomnia practically my entire life. My mom said that I struggled to go to sleep even as a baby. Further, I remember having severe depressive symptoms starting as young as 9. I also developed social anxiety during puberty and generalized anxiety soon after. While I do believe I developed obesity partly due to these issues (ie food gave me a high and helped alleviate my depressive symptoms, making me feel happy), I'm not afraid to admit that I just fucking love food more than the average person. I've always been driven to eat food because it just tastes so delicious that I want all of it to myself. People need to admit this more. We're fat because we enjoy food more than the average person, and we choose to eat fattening foods because they taste better than healthier food-period.

Now all you have to answer is, yes or no. Once again either that you have heard of hypothalamic obesity or that you haven’t. Once again. Yes, or no. Have you ever treated patients with Hypothalamic Obesity? If you want to know how much I weigh, I weigh 392 LBS. My most highest weight, was 470LBS. That was 17 years ago. @@DoctorVuong I know why because I eat too much and of the wrong things. What I’m saying is I don’t know why I do it and have such a hard time stopping. I’m a control freak who has control of everything except food consumption. Why? That’s the million dollar question. I have a special-needs child I want to be around for as long as I can. If that doesn’t put a fire under my ass I don’t know what will.

Why are you so concerned with debunking women’s “excuses”? Are you just looking for comments? Obviously you know nothing about this. Unsubscribed.

I definitely think people do that, especially young children if they are sexually abused. They start over eating to cope then realize they can gain weight and maybe the abuse will stop bcse he will no longer be attracted to me.
