+Faith W Uhhh-----had a great voice. I believe we lost that very talented singer and brilliant actor nearly twenty years ago. Get your colonoscopies, folks!
Conversation with a bartender who sounded legit, early 1990s (after CL had passed away) in Manhattan. Bartender stated that he and CL had been buddies (Cl being a customer).
I feel bad this is Cleavon's only singing in this movie, because he could sing and dance like a real star. He already had a Tony award for Best Actor in a Musical when he made this movie, but these 30 seconds are the only tribute to his musical talents.
Can you imagine what it was like for the first people to see Blazing Saddles in the theater, before it had gotten a lot of media attention? It must have been like Airplane... there's just no way to prepare for it, in a good way.
The movie of my generation that comes to mind is South Park. Just like in the movie, when they do the Uncle Fudger song, people in the theater got up and started to leave with their kids just like what was happening in the movie at the same time. It was amazing.
Totally agree. They also the clip should have the rest of Slim Pickens admonishment about how he hired them people to "get a little track laid, not jump around like a bunch of Kansas City..."
I love that one about why should I get a belt out of you and also that line about some people get a kick from cocaine and I'm also kind of sad but we never got a full album release of this song from this movie
So "I get no kick from champagne" is from a Frank Sinatra song " I get a kick out of you ". It's the third verse of the song. I never new till now. I Get A Kick Out Of You Song by Frank Sinatra My story is much to sad to be told But practically everything Leaves me totally cold The only exception I know is the case When I'm out on a quiet spree Fighting vainly the old ennui And I suddenly turn and see Your fabulous face I get no kick from champagne Mere alcohol doesn't move me at all So tell me why should it be true That I get a kick out of you Some like the perfume from Spain I'm sure that if I took even one sniff It would bore me terrifically too I do get a kick out of you I get a kick every time I see you Standing there before me I get a kick though it's clear to see You obviously do not adore me I get no kick in a plane Flying too high with some gal in the sky Is my idea of nothing to do And I get a kick, you give me a boot I get a kick out of you
ScLmRaceFanPhotos It's actually by Cole Porter just fyi. And this line; "Some like the perfume from Spain" was originally "Some, they may go for cocaine" but it was initially censored.
Indy Art Porductions I looked a couple years ago and came up w/ nothing. I've also checked elsewhere online and all the versions i found mostly suck. It's a damn shame when people in the business who are supposed to recognize shit from shinola didn't even bother to preserve the session. I don't even think they sang the full song at all. It's the best version i've ever heard. Thank you for noticing.....a Hey, i just found this link. Maybe there's a cd out on this movie. www.imdb.com/title/tt0071230/soundtrack?ref_=ttcc_sa_6
+alex tworkowski The recording of this song was released as a bonus track on 2008 Limited Edition CD (La-La Land Records LLLCD 1072) edition and the more affordable 2014 Warner Archive 40th Anniversary Edition of the Blazing Saddles soundtrack (released on CD and also as as downloads, you can buy just this track on Amazon and elsewhere). I agree, this cover is fabulous, way better than it needs to be for the movie. In fact, if it I was full-length I'd like it better than the other recordings of this Cole Porter song! At least as good as Sinatra to me. The La-La Land CD states on the back (which you can see on Discogs.com) that this recording was indeed actually performed by Cleavon Little. The 37 second recording clearly comes from the original tape, not the film soundtrack, as the quality is excellent and you can't hear Burton Gilliam speak up to "Hold it! Hold it!" at the end. Therefore, you hear Cleavon Little clearly wind down like he's stopping. It's extremely unlikely they recorded a full-length track. However, if I'd been there I would have begged them to record a full track for the soundtrack release. Unfortunately, even the 37 second version heard in the film wasn't put on the original soundtrack release, so they obviously undervalued it. Thankfully, it's now available in beautiful quality from the original recordings.
Nothing like a cappella vocal group harmony! (the funny part here of course is that it was about 100 years too soon. besides which Cole Porter didn't write the song itself until 1934)...
I get no kick from champagne Mere alcohol doesn't thrill me at all So tell me why should it be true That I get a belt out of you Some get a kick from cocaine
It's a bizarrely funny Jewish written song but unfortunately, I don't believe that at all and crack cocaine really rocked the Blacks and Hispanics like a bad habit.
NO CHAMPAGNE CELEBRATION IN MOTO GP AND E PRIX IN DODO NATION WAHAHHAHAHAAAHA GO DUTCH OR HARAM HARAM?????? WAHAHHAHHAAA EVEN QATAR ACT WITH OL' TRADITION WAHAHAHAAAHHAHHAHAHAHA
Umm, well. This is only half the gag. And while I get the hesitancy, it's still sad how neutered we are becoming that we must get tied in knots over showing the ENTIRE scene. I read Huckelberry Finn to my kids, and let me say it was a hard read. But I feel we are becoming too squeamish and too effeminate as a society, no offense intended to the fairer sex. There's more, after all, than one sex or one race. Which is good, unless we aspire to become homogenous mush.
