As a student studying Audiology, this is an audiologists worst nightmare. Not only is there no scientific-evidence that this method works, if these things fall into your ear canal, it is going to be SERIOUSLY hard to get out. In extreme cases, you'd have to go through surgery to remove it. Worse, it can obstruct your ear drum, causing you to have hearing loss. Please think twice about getting this done.
@Saatkraehen
@Saatkraehen 2 года назад
your ear canal isn't just an endless tunnel, if one were to fall in you could rinse it out with some warm water... (but i also think this is a non-scientific method that doesn't do shit)

@cherrydoll how would it get IN your eardrum??? Do you mean the ear canal?
@Saatkraehen
@Saatkraehen 2 года назад
@cherrydoll you'd definitely know if a bead of that size would roll into your ear canal. that gets REALLY itchy. however, scratching your ear canal with a q-tip is a bad idea since then you could actually cause damage by pushing the bead against your ear drum -- but trust, kids get beads rinsed out of their ears ALL the freaking time. little idiots.
@Saatkraehen

@cherrydoll it's literally what happens at the ER if you have anything in your ear. it gets rinsed out with oil and water or pulled out with tweezers.

They are not sold gold they are gold plated magnets. Really who cares if it's the placebo effect. If she feels better she feels better. Have you ever experienced mental health issues?! The placebo effect is still legitimate relief, even if it's created in your own brain.

@@brittanywinn3955 The point is that she can get the same placebo-induced relief from the mustard seeds, there's no need to pay for the manufacture of expensive and wasteful single-use gold-plated magnets when natural seeds from the garden will do the same job for free. Insinuating that this is a feasible replacement for scientifically-proven treatments like medication and therapy for conditions like anxiety, depression, and OCD is so dangerous. Using this in tandem with other treatments might be helpful for some, but unless there's hard proof that it works it shouldn't be used as a primary treatment.
@peaceofmind77
@peaceofmind77 2 года назад
Agreed. I’m always concerned when people say medication is just a “bandaid” bc it’s never intended to cure mental illness but to help with your baseline levels. I’m okay with people trying holistic things but like you said this should be in tandem with methods that have been proven to help like medication and therapy.

Hey R29, I love the macro beauty series but I’ve noticed that in pretty much all of your videos that showcase non-Eurocentric treatments/procedures, you never get the expert to explain the cultural background and where the practice comes from beyond just a sentence. Considering the damage that the co-opting of traditional practices by westerners has had on ethic communities (eg: yoga), it would be really helpful for your viewers if you did more to educate them on where these alternative treatments/practices are coming from

@pennyjpie

@@jbb8261 I agree, she should get therapy but therapy is super expensive! In California, which is where I think she is (and I also live in LA), depending on who you go to, it could be $100-300 a session. I did therapy to help with my mental health for a year, and only because of my specific insurance, it costs $45 a session, which is more than most people can afford already. But without my insurance, the price would be $290. That’s why it’s so frustrating, these are very common issues that no one can get treated because its costs so much! So a lot of people go to these sudo-science scams instead, essentially because it’s all they can afford to do and it gives them hope.

Quick rundown because R29 didn't give any info really. It's called auriculotherapy and originated in its current form in France in around 1957, though was practised in China from around 100BC with a nonstandard format. The ear seeds used here last anywhere from one to two weeks, it's usually around £30. The seeds are single use and adhered using either a small strip of medical grade adhesive tape or attached to a small circle of adhesive as a prepared seed. Auriculotherapy can also use magnets, vibrational frequencies, acupuncture needles and electrical stimulation depending on where you go. 24 carat gold seeds are utterly unnecessary in my opinion.
