I would highly recommend cerakote trim coat wipes for the sunfaded black parts. Its insanely good and nobody I know knows about them. But super cheap and better than any black plastic products ive used. And I've used a lot.
I would definitely keep this one man, that's an unheard of price for one of these even with the body the way it is. I'd sell that Colorado straight down the river and keep the hell out of it. This thing will outlive the Colorado by a decade. Use googone or goof off for the decals
Except the frame will rot faster than that Colorado. Recall frames were replaced with the same faulty design. I’ve got a first gen cab & a half 4 cylinder manual I love and got very cheap that I’m going to drive it as long as I can. I bought it with a bad frame and we replaced the back half. Body and drive train are great and it was cheap. I got taxed for a bluebook of 7k at the registry with a max value of 16k, but I fully expect the price to crash in 5 years or so when most of the recalls rot out. Edit: I’ve got it drenched in oil and I’m going to keep it that way and wash it a fair bit too, which most folks don’t, but I think it’ll still rot out.
@@organiccold do you use actual salt there? It’s not near as bad. We use a calcium compound that reacts with heat and moisture come spring time. We’ll see how mine lasts. I’m going the used hydraulic oil route. It’s free, and easy to apply regularly.
If it's a Colorado with the i5 it actually won't the gm atlas i5 is just as good as any Toyota Tacoma engine but the Colorado auto trans is a different story
I got my 2001 Tacoma for only $3k but mine is 4 cyl and 2wd I'm actually glad for this configuration because it's the simplest and most reliable set up. Runs like a clock. Ice cold AC
I work in the town this truck was named after. They have two Toyota dealerships and I work at one of them. If I were you, I’d buy brand new headlight assemblies because they all yellow like that and aren’t that expensive. Wouldn’t cut corners on this flip because investing more will get you more when you go to sell it because buyers are looking for the nicest they can get.
When I’m on Facebook marketplace and find a crazy deal within the first 30 minutes I request mark it pending or sold as I’m on the way so the listing doesn’t attract more buyers!
(Erie Pennsylvania here) I bought a 2006 Tacoma used and i beat the shit out of that truck for 13 years, it never let me down. Until the frame issue, I had my local Toyota dealer change it out, new frame, leaf springs, fuel lines, brake lines. Was basically a new truck.. but the 4.0 V6 was burning oil after 180K so I traded in on a 2019 Tundra 1794… love it! 🥰👍…. As long as the engine and trans are good, that should still have many years of life left in it, good luck! 👍
I had a 06 Tacoma years ago, and I have to say it was a great and dependable truck. I like how and you tackle anything and make a awesome profit to flip for something else, that's why I tune in every time you post , to see what the next fixer upper is . Stay safe and take care 🙂 🙏
You got a Steal on that one, I guaranty that, you are the Lucky guy can't wait to see more of the Tacoma I had one of thees same year I know a little about it. Love it!
I would have been pissed if someone called me and told me they wanted more money on the way up unless it was disclosed that it was an auction style sale. I believe in first come first serve, but if someone is on their way from 3 hours away, they get first dibs.
I don’t know if I’d have walked but it is slimy to play that game. My word is my word. I’ve sold stuff for less when offered more simply because I told someone “sold”. And I’m no democrat. I just believe In keeping my deals. But as a flip buy I find it hard to feel sorry anyways. It’d feel a bit more for someone who was buying it as their daily.
@@swamp-yankee because I can’t keep a vehicle for so long! I’ve got a problem buying and selling. I currently have a 2017 and 2018 Tacoma. But I’ve had every version and never any issues. I just bought a 2017 with 172345 miles on it. Runs like a top. I’ve always had good luck with them!
@@hunterstokely8438 I’ve got an 02 4 cylinder manual with 220k I bought cheap with a bad frame and no clutch that a friend fixed up. It’s a great truck, so much fun to drive compared to my clapped automatic 6cyl ranger I replaced. I’m going to drive it until something major happens to the drive train or the frame rots out again. I don’t do a lot of miles a year. Could last a long time if it keep oil and anti freeze in it and keep putting oil to the frame and body. I don’t generally trade my junk and with this truck I can’t trade it because I’ll never find another one this good this cheap.
@@hunterstokely8438 I love those oldies. I grew up riding in my fathers 87 1 ton single rear wheel. First year of fuel injection I believe. I’ve got a friend with an 83, and another with an 84. Both are a little whupped. I put a floor pan in the 84 the other day and the 83 is next
I use a product called Rapidtak adhesive remover to remove lettering. It's expensive but works amazing. Goo-gone may work as well but I've never used it on cars. After the adhesive is off just 80% alcohol and a rag will remove almost all the ghosting caused by UV fade.
Replacement frames were coated with Noxudol to help prevent rust. One of the best products to combat rust. Although I think it was supposed to be dealer applied per the technical service bulletin.
I always wondered if they did something like that on the replacement frames or just used a upgraded metal. Would probably still be a good idea to undercoat for the body parts though for what rust repairs cost.
Sweet Tacoma! Toyota Mechanic and Fellow Tacoma owner here. That old I'm sure you already know that old 4.0 engine is absolutely bulletproof! One of my coworkers has one with 360k on it and he just recently got back from a cross country trip from California all the way to Michigan. Solid runner. Since I'm sure you won't be keeping it since you like your Chevy, you'll definitely make quite a bit of money on it!
The guy was definitely getting coached to up the price after one of his buddies said wtf 2000 dollars is way to cheap he already offered 1000 more I bet we can get him up higher 4k later you still got a fair deal
That’s a hell of a deal, especially in the current market! I got my 06 for $8500 back in 2019 with 150k on it and considered that a great deal at the time too. Vermont is a crazy environment to buy trucks, especially Toyotas because they’re so desirable. Looks like that’s a base model? Crank windows, manual locks? Mines the same except with a 6 speed manual. These trucks can be driven for basically free because they don’t really depreciate. A cheap addition you can do to add a little bit to it and add another selling point, is fog lights. All V6 Tacomas are wired for them even if they don’t come with them. For around $100, you can get a set of used OEM fogs, the switch for the panel on the left of the steering wheel, and the relay for under the hood. Takes about 15 minutes to install. Great find!
I know you’re a GM fan but with that mint frame and toyota reliability you have to be nuts to sell it .Especially when you got a steal of a deal at $4k even with the body condition . sell the colorado instead
@@RohanSanjith they can look nice and be rusting from the inside out. The one I have looked good when my buddy first bought it, and the bed was clapping against the cab pretty quick after actually working the truck. The outside of the bad part of the frame wasn’t rusty when we trimmed it off and put new rails under the bed. I’m not saying that’s a bad truck. Just figured I’d share my experience with 1st gen frame rot since I intentionally bought one with a bad frame.
@@AlecGD Are you agreeing that this truck in the condition he bought it in would sell for $10k in FL? Cause I am from FL and that is completely false. That truck would at the absolute most would bring in $7,500 to $8k. I see better condition tacos going for $10k
Great video man! Glad for you, that's a good flip over there. Tell me, do you guys have any oil-based rust-proofing services like Krown or Corrosion Free? Here in salty Canada, I've seen many Krown customers driving 2003-2012 Tundras, F150s, Silverados without a single inch of surface/body/frame rust on the truck. Heck, when I sold my Krown-proofed 2007 Camry it had 220K on it and no surface rust anywhere, like I got it from Arizona or something.
Hey a 207 area code! I saw that it was from Maine from the thumbnail! Hope you enjoyed your short visit to my home! I live bout 40 minutes north of portland
It sounds really good. Berliner is factory. Nice it’s a V-6, worth more. Frames from that era are a lot better than the pre-2010 ones. I’d be tempted to keep that one as a run around truck, they last foreverZ
I like that Tacoma if you didn’t have that Colorado that would be a great daily driver I had a Tacoma from 07 it was a 4 dour and I had it until 400,000 miles and the engine was dead loved the truck
Nice Toyota, here in Europe every one wants the diesel 3.0 D4D but i like those V6s. Nice to see Supervisor Beetle around. Oh and clean those headlights hehe
Wish I had bought my 07 4Runner around the time they did the frame recall for it as well. Been in CT all it’s life and could definitely have used the frame replacement when Toyota offered it. Unfortunately I purchased my 4Runner 1 year after the frame recall ended.
Looks like a great deal even with the price bump. You might get lucky with the radio could be an aftermarket was in there and the original one wasn't plugged back in entirely. Made me think back of my friends buying their first house. Had 3 sold out from under them even with the deposit down on them.
I think there's a rubber wheel that you can get off of Amazon for your drill that removes old letter adhesive . I'd keep the Toyota but I know you won't. Till next time.
Please keep it and make it a budget off-roader. There’s no way you will get another deal like that. I miss my second gen. Amazing truck. Just fluid film the the frame
Looks great, even with the flaws. And at least the faded door is on the passenger side. So you won't have to see it every time you drive! How is the gas mileage? Fixing your AC was a lot easier than mine! Seven years ago, I picked up a '96 Tacoma from this guy I knew for awhile. He had it 12 years, but was retired and didn't drive very much or in snow. Solid frame and a straight rust-free standard-cab, with the 4-cylinder, 5-speed, power-steering, and bed-liner. The best - only 73K miles. The bad - fading clear-coat on roof & hood. The worst - wouldn't go in first or third gear, and never had AC! So I gambled, paid his $400 asking price and got lucky. Fixed it myself with a $30 shifter socket kit from Toyota. Since then, I've made some upgrades - a $300 ARE fiberglass cap off craigslist, a flea-market $50 Sony CD-radio & speakers, and the best part - thanks to salvage-yards and RockAuto - I installed 'factory AC' for $500! I have other vehicles. So today, the Tacoma still only has about 84K. It may outlast me! 🙂
Even by PNW standards that's a CLEAN frame. You can make a good profit anywhere you decide to sell! I'd keep it around for a bit longer since deals like that on a Tacoma is unheard of, even before used car price war. I wonder if the pissed off guy from Massachusetts is Rich Rebuilds losing his cool haha! We'll probably see a rage video complete with off-key recorder music, Popeye's Chicken/Stroopwaffle Mukbang, and Steven/Leenda bickering!
If you put a 3m rubber wheel on a drill, that will take the lettering off much quicker. We do it all the time to our company vehicles (Which do not leave our yard de-lettered)
You probably already know/do, but coat the frame with fluid film or whatnot every year before winter if driving in the winter. Frame will rust in a few years if not, but rest of truck is rough, so I could see not caring too lol. Trail rig.
Those are 7,000$ and up here easy these days but they use to be half that untill Coivd prices 😒 I drove 6hrs in 2019 to buy a truck I get 10 minutes from the guys house he calls says he sold the truck and gave me my deposit back! Not a fun day
I re-charged my AC twice (two years in a row) in my 2005 Taco with the autoparts stuff. Has been fine for a few years now, I may have had a small leak I guess.
There is a older gentleman in Florida by the name of Sam , I'm sure he can give you solid advice to get that blue paint looking showroom blue in no time even on the faded door ,,, look at before and after pics of a lil junk yard Corvette called ruby .. it will make you a believer...
I live in maine this is awesome I always go up to Burlington Vermont (I think I’m spelling that right) but I go up to visit my family because they live up there. It’s a really beautiful place
I would search marketplace for any other set of wheels, the rusty steelies make it look like a beat work truck. Maybe even swap headlights with better used oem or after market. Two years ago I paid 25 for my 2015 with 90k, Tacoma’s are good trucks. That being said take advantage of the Tacoma tax, clean it up and sell it.
I don't know if you know about that attachment you get for your drill and it's for removing stickers and stuff like that and it's like a it spins but it's made with like a rubber material but anyways they sell them and it you won't have mirrors hard time scraping the old stickers off with that it really works good it doesn't harm the paint looks like you were putting some scratches in there with the razor blade you should invest with one of those?
Finding a Tacoma for that price is like winning the lottery honestly. If that truck was listed on Craigslist in my area they'd be asking like 12k-15k and I'm not joking.
Clean it and daily it. The frame is solid and that was the only thing on these trucks that was a problem. In the current market there is nothing that can beat this toyota in runningcosts and devaluation.
if you have any weird vibration or steering issues check out the steel wheels first. I bought mine and it had THREE out of four slightly bent steelies. western NY roads are fucking horrid
