The whole Cobra Tate segment is crazy, because on the podcast with Brittany I literally said that the guy is probably Romanian and now HERE WE GO. He actually is which is incredibly sad, because I am from Romania and I know how bad things are over here. First of all, these guys don't and will never spend more than a minute in jail, because they give money to the police. And second of all, the police would have never raided their home were it not for the American girl in there. Kat tenbarge literally took Adam McIntyre to a club in LA and was drinking in a hotel with him in a vlog while he was still underage, AFTER breaking the whole David Dobrik story and emphasizing who provided the alcohol. Her take on this whole situation is so strangely extreme and over the top. I’m not sure how people can take her seriously anymore.
I’m sure she sees it differently bc it’s her friend. After all most people have given their underage friends alcohol. Not someone she’s trying to bang. I don’t necessarily align with her full views but I don’t agree it makes her not serious.

I feel like they should revert back to calling it just the H3 Podcast for every episode except for, of course, the Leftovers. I honestly don't even really know what the difference is anymore between the shows besides Hila showing up for one of them.
Off the rails is Ethan, being alone, unsupervised. Afterdark is the more adult counterpart of the original h3 podcast, in which it was censored and pre recorded. I honestly find it so much more disrespectful to treat the lgbtq+ community as something that can be “recruited”. Ethan didn’t recruit us, we have a mind of our own. Yes the call was uncomfortable and I certainly appreciate Ethan's apology. But I don't feel it was horrific. But I absolutely understand that some people were offended and decided to step away. As a queer person, it just rubs me the wrong way :/ like Ethan’s content isn’t exclusively about gay and queer themes :// it feels alienating that she would even say that as Ethan being welcoming to different groups of people is just the bare minimum. Other creators who are trying to understand queer ppl and sometimes speak up on queer issues are doing the bare minimum. idk her take was weird and makes queerness feel like an “other” rather than a norm, so I just feel her take was harmful.
I feel like the joke Ethan made was in poor taste but he's learning. Obviously he's gonna defend himself in the moment when he doesn't understand; it's not "backlash" that causes him to change his mind, it's finding someone with a well-articulated point and understanding why what he did was harmful.
I do think a loud minority was pronouncing Ethan as homophobic etc while the overall majority wanted ethan to just recognize his internalized homophobia from living in a hetero normalized society. Although I disagree with saying that people who were finding themselves often offended by Ethan’s jokes/comments etc should not continue watching. I think it’s always good to have people of diverse viewpoints whether they are right or wrong or good or bad as it can help us better identify what the problem is. The last thing we want is for the podcast to become an unchecked echo chamber of the same ideas and opinions. It sort of can become cult like to have only viewers that are not offended by the jokes/comments/etc. Unfortunately people need to get offended to make change, it’s like a checks and balances for the pod to ensure nothing gets too out of hand. also these anti-woke people need to stop commenting that the left is eating itself. The left can criticize its own participants that doesn’t mean they’re not criticizing the right. I don’t think anyone is immune to criticism. Kat's comments, to me are harmful and disgusting, she's capitalizing on our suffering and by saying Ethan's comments are "horrific" is belittling every one of us that has to face verbal harassment, living through the AIDS crisis, loss of jobs, homelessness, abuse, assults imprisonment and death. If he's suddenly not an ally because he didn't 100% understand the excruciating minutia of the sexual dynamics of a community he has always supported but is not a part of and this caused him to make some jokes out of ignorance that were in poor taste, if that makes him an enemy or "homophobic" just give up on lgbt rights, the cause is lost, it's fucking over. You can't win a civil rights battle if the only people on your side are 50 of the whiniest most sensitive people on twitter because that is what you're limiting your allies to. The people so plugged in, so sensitive that they have never made a single mistake ever in their lives. I'm a bi dude who is active in a very overwhelmingly lgbt space and most of my current friend group are gay men. Through that entire conversation the only two things that came to my mind were "Lol if Ethan thinks only the small skinny dudes are bottoms he's got another thing coming." and that he was trying to be entertaining and asked some questions that guy on the phone subtly indicated were not ones he wanted to answer. I believed the same stereotypes before i was surrounded by the community in that space and for the most part. What people did instead of casting me out as homophobic, freaking out on me, trying to cancel me etc was they educated me and made me understand something I simply didn't understand previously.
I'm a queer woman, and I ended up here because of Ethan's totally on point critique of the James Charles situation (the underage boys, not the diapers), and stayed because I felt welcome. I think spending too much time in LGBTQ+ community spaces on social media makes it easy to live in a state of constant threat and outrage. "Bottom" jokes are at worst tired and unfunny (looking at you Drag Race...) but nowhere close to horrific. I don't always love the way Ethan speaks to people and I don't think his interview style is as edgy as he thinks it is, lol, but there is plenty of humour and warmth in this team that is worth staying for.

I thought the call the other day was uncomfortable and insensitive, but the reaction to it is so grossly overblown, I couldn't agree more with the whole "left eating itself" thing. If you want people on your side, you have to be more open to a conversation and more understanding about other people. Outright cancelling people doesn't solve any of these issues. It's like Ethan is being lumped in with all these horrific alt-right people like Ben Shapiro, Crowder etc. How are they even in the same ball park? Ethan apologised and admitted that the jokes were insensitive and he's open to understanding more about these kinds of issues. What more do people want? Nobody's perfect, we all make mistakes. What happened to forgiveness? How are we ever to believe that people can change their minds when this woke cancelling group mentality is pushing people further and further away?
Him making those homophobic jokes, one thing. Him doubling down, Dan yelling and using a mocking ✨ effeminate✨ voice... That's what really made the whole thing several times worse. If they'd not gotten defensive and paused as it went down it would've been a completely different situation. I'm of the deep belief that we can do -phobic things without actually _being_ -phobic. Our actions ≠ our identity. They got defensive because they couldn't see a reality where their actions didn't align with their identities so they lashed out. "I'm not homophobic therefore what I did was ok and YOU'RE the one that's wrong for being hurt!" Lack of intention doesn't mean lack of harm. Ofc intentionally saying harmful stuff is worse. (Which again makes Dan's mocking voice especially messed up). I'm glad they aren't still doubling down but I wish they could've properly explained WHY those actions were wrong. About the history of associating femininity with worthlessness, with how toxic masculinity punishes men for doing "traditionally feminine" things. That when gay men move away from what is seen as masculine, they are seen as rejecting their inherent patriarchal privilege which is seen as unforgivable. These are the mechanisms behind the jokes he made. And it is a serious issue. Look into the pyramid of violence and discrimination.

I really don’t think that Ethan was being homophobic; sometimes straight people can ask questions that might be inappropriate, but with no evil intention. I identify as bi and have been watching H3 for a while and I have never felt like Ethan or Hila or Dan have done anything intentionally harmful to the community. This is a perfect opportunity to learn and I hope Dan is less reactionary in the future. Everyone deserves a second chance!

I, as a queer person think the show is very inclusive and accepting community just because it isn’t exactly pg doesn’t mean it’s ill intended; it’s just a different show and if you don’t enjoy the way it is don’t watch.
The important part here Ethan is that you’re willing to unlearn these things. We all do it to a degree based on our upbringings and some people have more work to do than ofhers. Its alright, people are dramatic. We love you, just keep learning.
This is why I love this show. You actually recognized where you hurt people, took accountability for it while also explaining the nature of the show and that it doesn't come from a place of malice. Ethan is more open than most to learning and doesn’t sidestep away from addressing conflict, I respect the hell out of that. I hope people start to shift some of that same energy towards those who are actively and vocally against the LGBTQ+ community.

Maybe don’t exaggerate on the facts if you’re trying to make a point. If you don’t want to accept that he did, in fact, apologize and acknowledge that he is ignorant but he’s trying to grow, that’s your choice. And if you don’t want to see that he’s making a point that people’s outrage want to make him out to be an enemy of the queer community when that’s not the case and that he just made a mistake, that’s also your choice. But I think he did a great job addressing this.
As a queer longtime listener, and I like to call myself political, I'm not always fine with stuff you say Ethan, but the thing is, I stay because you learn. Like we all do. I wouldnt be friends with my twenty year old self. And I hope that in ten years I can look back and can see that I was wrong in my late twentys and that I grew. Everything else would be sad. I completely agree. I also stay because I can understand that Ethan is the kind of person I can see wanting to learn, and wanting to understand. And I do the same with friends. I have a lot of friends with problematic views sometimes, but I stay because sometimes I understand why they have their views, sometimes I know they have otherwise good intentions, and sometimes I stay because I can see that they want to change but it takes time. If I left every time a friend said something problematic about my identity (being both queer and of color), I'd be pretty lonely. And I think that is why minority groups are actually more resilient to harassment because they're surrounded by it all the time, so even in this case I feel most queer people weren't "completely broken" by Ethan's comment, it was more of a "ah damn, that was a little disappointing to hear Ethan but I'm still here, life goes on". Meanwhile, white straight men are surrounded by society affirming every action all the time, so as soon as there's even a slight push-back like saying "ah damn, a little disappointing", they will be up in arms telling people to go fuck themselves, to stop oppressing their free speech, to 'stop being so fragile'. Yeah because it wasn't your own fragility that became really apparent in this scenario.
the problem with twitter is always "I get the sentiment, but the reaction is by no mean proportionate to the sin". people just don't think about how their words reflect on the person they are "cancelling", and over reaction/dramatic behavior always gets you the most interaction.

Why do they take callers? It’s literally the part I skip every time and it’s usually the part that gets people angry because Ethan treats the callers like shit.
As a queer guy who is a fan of the show, the last show did get a little uncomfortable, however I felt like Ethan's apology was great and I know that it's hard to get things right all the time ans the goal posts keep moving as we learn more about minority groups, the best we can do is keep pushing forward ans do the best we can which I feel like Ethan is always doing and its why I'm still a huge fan of the whole H3 fam.
At a certain point the conversation needs to level out. Progressive people are going to get older and hold opinions that not all young people hold. Part of being accepting is being accepting of those who are ignorant.

Dude that's what I don't understand. Maybe the ones upset are just really young and sheltered. I grew up in the south where people will call you a "F" to your face, tell you're going to hell, or hit you if they even thought you were gay. Like THAT is horrific. I've always got that vibe that Kat Tenbarge was a clout shark. I was always skeptical of her intentions even during that whole David Dobrik situation. She didn't have to tweet that and add more fuel to a false and disingenuous narrative. She could've contacted Ethan privately.
I thought she was just a journalist since she broke that story and her report on it was journalistic. She didn't add her opinion throughout. It was just facts based, which is what journalism is. But now they're saying she's a critic, which is entirely different from being a journalist in the sense I just described. Critics are all opinion... Sooo, wtf is she? If she's some kind of social media personality critic, I guess she's just being a critic even though she didn't explain how Ethan recruits LGBTQ fans. But if she's just a journalist, that tweet is a big hit on her credibility. It was overly emotional and accusational (without even explanation of said accusations). That's _not_ reporting.
Even when i do not strongly agree with chat, hearing Dan yell att people to unsubscribe or leave doesnt feel good for me either. I understand what made him angry were the minority of people who were taking their critisism too far, but the way he expressed himself felt directed at every person who just found the bottom-conversation even slightly oddly handled, which i think is a lot of us. Cam's recent tweet explains the words ethan used regarding diversity in the crew and about tokenism. I hope some of y'all who made assumptions about the crew members can eventually see that you were doing the same thing that you accused ethan of doing ie making assumptions on one's sexuality based on how they sound/act.

I’m sick of fairly innocent albeit ignorant statements being mislabeled as being racist/homophobic/transphobic etc. Like when Anna akana did the “my friend is kinda racist” video. I’m asian, and the hyperbole of labeling everything as being racist in that video, getting instantly annoyed at her friend for “micro-aggressions” (that’s another term that’s been getting thrown around quite liberally too lately) just got under my skin, we should always endeavor to kindly educate people. The guy who called in even said he didn’t want h3 to lose viewers he just hopes to see growth and I 100% agree. I think Ethan can miss the mark a lot, but so can I, and so can you, this level of perfection we’re asking of people is getting beyond a joke.
