He was such a ballsy son of a bitch, you'd be forgiven for thinking he was insane. He captured several British ships and raided British coastal towns during the American war of independance, to bolster the united state's navy and make sure people didn't starve when supply lines were cut. One of the towns he raided even gave him an official pardon a few decades ago. He was born in Scotland, but was one of the greatest heroes America has ever had. Hell, he's one of my heroes, depsite being British myself.
