For people who don't know - that's the fastest part of the track to literally the slowest where Rob crashed. With no ABS, traction control, or any assists - getting the braking zone on point is tough.I was blessed to do this program last year and it was the trickest corner for me. Proud of how you did Rob regardless of the mishap!

Bad brake bias settings I'd say. You can't have a car snap like that under braking, no matter how hard the corner is. Front lockup? Maybe. But not a rear snap, not unless the brake bias is set too much towards the rear. Plus shitty setup. Not Rob's fault. But the setup looks like shit.

@tozkal96
@tozkal96 Месяц назад
@@sedixmrboss5625 they litterally said that he broke hard for too long. these cars have downforce wich means that the faster you go the more grip you have. you have to trail the brake to keep up with the lower grip at the lower speeds when breaking. so if we listen to what the proffessional said, id say he lost rear grip because of lack of downforce and too much break pressure for the speed he was going. not the setups fault, its a race car not your daily driver. its set up to go fast not to be safe under breaking. its 100% driver error. not that rob is bad or anything. he did really well, but its an easy mistake to make as it is almost impossible for a driver who has never driven downforce cars to just be able to know where the grip is under breaking when its as complicated as it is to break in thes kinds of cars, and with no abs at that, wich he is used to.

Glad you’re okay Rob! Just to help clarify some questions these cars have a short wheelbase and naturally move around under braking. We always have the brake bias more towards the front but because these cars are chain driven which is a key factor to the rear letting go. This means you can still lock the rears if you go over the limit. These cars can start to lock the rears anywhere from 320-350psi. T1 at AMP also goes down hill more drastically than the onboard shows which exaggerates the weight balance.

Hey Rob, that was me in the yellow 138. Nice job taking advantage of my mistakes and making a clean pass. I've also spun in the turn 1 brake zone during practice, fortunately I didn't hit anything but it is humbling for sure. These cars take a lot of finesse and technique on the brakes, it's a totally different deal from racing door-slammers and they can get away from you quickly. Great channel; hope to see you racing out at AMP again.

I'm so glad that Rob has finally bitten the bullet on getting some formal training. Properly understanding racing lines, weight transfer, etc. And there's no harm in a little humbling crash to keep any ego in check too. This is what so many of us have been calling for him to do for a long time now, because it really is so very important - especially with the high power cars that he drives. Looking forward to seeing some of this learning come into play in the trackdays.

Better to crash here than off the side of Pikes Peak I guess
@PiDsPagePrototypes
@PiDsPagePrototypes Месяц назад
Some of that post crash diagnosis doesn't add up. Sure the weight is on the nose, unloading BOTH rear wheels, but that snapped sideways faster then most people could react, meaning the right rear locked up without the left rear locking up. That tells us that there was a side to side brake imbalance in that chassis, or that the right rear of the suspension was set harder then the left with enough of a difference to unsettle the car even while at full downforce.
@Sean_Farmer
@Sean_Farmer Месяц назад
I was searching through the comments to see if anyone else thought the same thing as me. My suspicion is that one of the calipers was biting harder than the other because that was so hard, almost like something broke, that it doesn't add up to me.

The way these cars snap on braking reminds me of karting. In Karting you must counter steer instantly or you won't recover. It means that learning to brake strongly on Karting implies that you must learn to correct quick and precise. In the video you can see that the car gives signs before it snaps, it started turning slightly right, at this moment you must correct because if the front and rear are not inline in the travel direction, the braking force will snap the car eventually. In Karting it's even quicker, there are no signs, it just goes. You should train this phase many times and create the sliding on purpose and training to keep it straight, of course with margins and trying that in the middle of the track. I don't know if the cause is the rear losing grip because the brake were pressed too much or the car not being aligned while braking strongly but correctly.

And please remember to adjust your belts each time you get in car. The anti submarine belts are there to keep you from sliding down and having the lap belt on your abdomen. They should always be on your pelvis bone. If you pull the shoulder belts tight, and the lap belt goes up. Loosen them and tighten the lower belts even more. Otherwise you risk serious injury.
