I Got Offered A Bag & Why I Declined- HERMÈS Lottery Leather Appointment Experience Faubourg Paris 

Hi Maria! Just want to share my experience too! I’m an American, went to all Paris Hermes store and other European countries for Birkin/ Kelly bags for several years now. My last encounter was in Fabourgh, St, their mother store before the COVID time. I was late for my appointment for like about 10 minutes and they didn’t accommodated me. I felt so bad, traveling all the way from US, several times, with a goal to get a Birkin or Kelly but to no avail, maybe I looked desperate or pitiful during that time that the SA told me that , “it’s just a bag mam’m”. Yeah it’s just a bag , but why make it harder for the ordinary customers to get it, but VIP customers to collect as much as they want. Since then, I finally realized that what the SA told me was true, it’s just a bag.Now, I still travel to European countries and Paris.While we were passing to the Hermes store in Fabourgh St, my friend asked me, if I would like to enter the Store, and I answered her, “No, thank you”, with my mind on the next beautiful place to explore while in Europe.😊

I’m not a big fan of Hermes. It took them 6 months to offer me a bag but a friend of mine that hardly ever shopped at the store got a bag offer in 3 months. They play games and I honestly feel like they discriminate. Won’t be wasting my money with game playing companies ❤

PLEASE tell your story about the Bond street store! l had a similar terrible experience at another store on that street.

I think it's hilarious that the SAs go back to the "stockroom" for a few minutes when you know they have helped hundreds of clients and probably already know what's in the store 😂

THANK YOU for not taking a bag just because. I can’t believe people get so hung up on the BUY BUY BUY. Leave what’s unwanted for others. Someone out there does indeed want that lindy, and it will live a happy life with them.

Whoever came up with the selling strategy from Hermes is genius. They know the human psych, and they understand the need of humans of wanting to belong and crave for validation. We want the world to keep telling us that we are worthy. They treat people with utter disgust because that makes people want to prove themselves that they are worth a short in the exclusive club. It is amazing to hear and see. I wonder how much longer they can keep this disgusting strategy. I'm glad you declined 👏👏

SA's will only offer you a bag if you stay loyal to them. I know for myself, I had a bad experience in one store. So I ended up going to a different boutique. In my state in the US we have 2 boutique's, thankfully. I have stuck by my SA in the second store and only shop with her religiously. She is amazing. We connect well. That's the best advice. Be kind and considerate and don to earth. If they offer you something they think you may like be genuine. If I do not like something I am honest. I notice with my SA she knows my style well. My first offer I did not even expect. It was total surprise and I was so pleased. Buying ready to wear helps!

You were really brave and consequent rejecting the bag and I admire you for that, because in this particular situation it was the right thing to do, despite any possible resale option. Not buying from a SA who doesn’t respect you was the best thing to do. And in my opinion Chanel suits you better anyway, it’s sparkly and beautiful in design, not boring & plain as Hermes was called by many before Instagram pushed the brand. When I was younger Hermes bags was called old lady bags - so just getting any bag just because it’s Hermes would certainly not made you happy♥️

Good for you for refusing a bag that you didn't want. So many girls take whatever they're offered even if it has dents or creases, or other defects. She was just trying to get rid of that Lindy.

I’m sorry. But this is BS. People spend so much money for Hermès bags and the nerve of them for what they put their customers through just to get one! Spend your money on other things/experiences.

I got offered a birkin here in the UK, I haven't bought much from that specific boutique but I have a very good relationship with the SA. I got B25 sellier in Gold with GHW.

We as customer trained these brands to treat us like this and at the end we feel proud of paying so much money and get a bag.

Ugh Maria this is awful! To be treated so roughly and be expected to grovel AND pay thousands for a bag that you didn’t even request (and as the Lindy goes, is an ugly a** bag), and also have a snide comment thrown at you after you respected yourself and your hard earned money… that couldn’t be further from luxury. 🤮 We are so brainwashed for Hermès, these old lady bags that cost our self-respect. If they were the most stylish bags that had interest and unique style then maybe it would be justified, but they’re just basic old lady bags that we’ve seen a million times online, generally on people with little-to-no style. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Spend your money on something and somewhere better.

Being half-French, half-Canadian, I could relate so much with you saying the lady wasn't participating in your conversation/small talk. French people (ESPECIALLY in Paris) tend to be ''colder'' upfront, whereas if you were in a Canadian store for example, you'd have a new best friend probably. The first time I went back to France in years, I entered a store and I said to the employee greeting me: ''Hi! How are you? :)'' (which is very, VERY normal in Québec) and I was told by my cousin that I was being rude, since I didn't know the person so it wasn't any of my business to ask her how she was. Anyway... I'm sorry you had that experience, especially in a store where you purchase a bag for tens of thousands of dollars.

The "no stock" after xmas is just an excuse to not offer you a bag. They save their stock for special customers traveling in for the new year from the US and Asia! Hermes always have stock. It's not like the most known and popular brand in the world have a limited staff problem. I feel so bad for you having such a snotty SA. Wish you had gotten your dream bag. And....sometimes I even feel bad for the people that work at Hermes... Hello, my job is to lie to customers face to face all day... :(

Tbh when I heard that you named all the color name, I think the SA may have thought that you’re an reseller, which is why she offered you other bag than Kelly or Birkin and surprised when you didn’t get it. That’s what my reseller told me , also she said when the SA asked you about what you want, don’t give them a variety of colors or shape, they’d think you are okay with everything.

I have no idea why people are in need for Hermes bags. They are for gramma’s in my opinion, I will never spend my money on Hermes bags. I’m sorry Maria this happened to you. Good for you, you turned this SA down.

I was there the week before you. Had an appointment. The SA asked me what did I want and I told her right away! 😂 if you (the SA) don’t want to be chatty neither do I. I did get a b30 that day which is what I requested. I was happy to make my appointment quick! I was also able to get my SAs number and email so I could contact in the future with little small talk. Sadly this video shows that you can’t do and follow everything that you see on sm. Just be yourself. She was definitely looking at your account while she was scrolling. She had a bad attitude from the beginning! Good for you for not accepting a bag that you didn’t want! If you’ve had multiple bad experiences maybe they are not the brand for you. It seems like mentioning whatever happened in Bond St was making you teary eyed! Don’t continue to spend your money with a company that make you feel like this! The whole Paris scene in H is pretty interesting to see. I saw rude customers, rude SAs, crying customers, people screaming, the whole environment was weird. I totally avoided the appointment desk because that’s were most of the rudeness was.

The Bond st store comment was just telling. she knew about your issue with that store. I REALLY hate the part where you have to be OFFERED a bag. you are spending thousands of money for a bag and the LEAST they ought to be is being pleasant as minimum service. thankfully im not a birkin or kelly fan. customers have to wake up and realise that hermes SHOULD be the one convincing you to buy their products.

I am often so shocked when i hear storys of Hermes in Paris or other cities. I live in Munich and i'm always so happy in our Hermes store. They are friendly and kind. Its hard to get a bag. Honestly always the same game. But the customer service is so good....i like to go inside.

Maria, 1 month before covid started i was in Paris with my fiance, i got engaged there, and the we were aplying everyday, and we were in bordeaux 6 hours from Paris mu husband got the appoiment we drove since 5 AM to the appoiment, and the problably was the same SA i had the same treatment, she was awful, we said that we drove 6 hours, got engaged that trip, she was not looking at our face, and left with nothing! Last year i was invited to go to the garden and got a bag in Paris

She was scrolling about you. Store history or social media. I know a woman who was there at the same time. She got the exact bag she wanted and was told t that they had all her favorite colors available. Her behavior was horrible. The comment reveals that she knows about your experience at Bond street. What a horrible brand.

The thing, based on my experience, with Hermes in Paris - I feel that SAs in the store decide what bag is suitable for the customer, not the other way around…. I was in Paris in June and got Kelly black…but I asked for colours blue or green, but I only got it because it’s classic colour, do I love it? Not really … but I got annoyed when SA said : this will suit your live style more….

So sorry to hear how badly they’ve treated you and to see how genuinely sad you are. But keep your chin up, Maria! Your Hermes stories remind me of Claire Chanelle‘s journey, and look at her collection now. And I can clearly remember her and her husband trying to charm the employees, sitting in the car on a rainy day, waiting for the other to come back from the store with bad news. Maria I can relate to your story so much! My local store Milan/Italy it’s so bad! I’ve been waiting for over 2 years for my first and only quota bag and they treat me so poorly… Every time I ask about my wish they lie to me and come up with a different excuse each time. Also I’ve tried to apply for an appointment in Paris for over 70days straight and didn’t get any at all that I gave up at one point because it’s exhausting to keep applying and failing each day… I will try again later this spring 😢

This manipulation of Hermes is outrageous. I've always bought pre-loved. But the more I hear, the less I even want to use any of my Hermes.

Hi Maria, now that you have mentioned it, you should tell us about the Bond Street boutique experience, because that is clearly the history the SA in Paris was looking at and she made a clearer reference to this. Of course, I understand if you wish not to discolse it, but since you have discolsed what happened in Paris, you might wish to tell what happened in London, if only for clarity. Maria please call the customer service in France I had a bad experience at first in FSH and I’m french. After telling all my story the director of department of leather call me and give me an appointement with one other person and I get me dream come true a Birkin black rose gold hardware.

I just got back from Paris and actually got 2 appointments in a week, one with my SA and one through the appointment system. Both at the Sevres store. Despite having a very strong profile and good relationship with my SA i just managed to get a mini lindy, the stock was really low this time. Also if you get offered and accept any bag you have to wait 6 months to get another, even if its not a quota bag. It is definitely harder than it was even 9 months ago, when I got offered a mini kelly, seems they are trying to make all bags exclusive and difficult to get worldwide!

About wishlist in France I get my first Birkin in Tours (near to Paris) because I live there so was pretty easy in less of 6 months I got my bag, after that I go to FSH without appointement and I get another Birkin in 30 (I think because I am french? 🤷🏼‍♀️) but blue and I was not sure about the color so I exchange it for a black one (I think was the first time someone exchange a Birkin in Hermes 😂) this moment was a bad experience and this day I did’nt get another bag to exchange but at the end I get what I was wanted my black one with Rose gold hardware. Sorry to heard your bad experience because in FSH 99% of people working there are really nice and kind and in Rue de Sevres as well ❤️

Hermès can keep on doing these things because customers just go along with it. As there's 20.000 peple applying everyday I'm not surprised they keep this system. This is so crazy, I just watched another You Tuber from the US who showed how she was greeted warmly, had 3 sales associates working with her and she ended up with a Birkin and an Evelyn both!

I’m glad I got my first 2 Birkin’s before the lottery nonsense. My other bags I got from the Manchester store. In my view, if you have are really after a b or k you have to be very open minded with regards to colour & size. And I’d choose any other Hermes store in Paris over FSH

2023 are year for me to more focusing on timeless things/style...with the price increase for every brand i dont feel like want to wasting more on seasonal pieces or limited edition that i think are not going to stay last...i more into spending more on all classic style for every brand i love...classic are more timesless i guess include timeless colors🥰🥰🥰

Maria I think it was a wise choice not to buy a bag you did not like! However, if I were you I would buy it and resell it right away for 2x the price, as the neutrals/grays are very easy to resell. It would be a really nice investment if that specific style is indeed popular.
