Hey Cory here's the thing brother I would love to have bought them in a regular store or order them from Ray-Ban the trouble is they were a vintage pair from the 1980s that nobody has in stock they're not the simplest things in the world to find they're actually one of the most rare pairs of wayfarers on the market.... Believe me I wasn't caught in corners brother I paid 8,850 baht for these things.... Lol Definitely didn't try to taste cheap way out I thought I found a reputable vintage eyeglass company in Bangkok that if you hadn't gone on their website you would have been completely convinced was a fully legitimate business....

If I was in this situation (assuming I was in Thailand), I would look to see it if I could buy it from my home country Canada. There are two options, I could either have them shipped overseas (more expensive), or I could have it shipped to a family member that I trust (in my case, my parents). Either I pick them up next time I visit home, or they bring it to me if they decide to visit Thailand. As for you, I'm not really too sure if the latter is possible on your end, or if any of your family members like to visit Thailand. Just my personal take, and this would apply to anything expensive not available from official sites or stores.

I would talk to a Buddhist monk and have them give you a little talk on attachment and help when you were attached to anything it will bring you suffering. …… The second question about the transaction specifically I would tell you this…… I don’t know if this is possible in Thailand but use a credit card that has a liberal policy about denying a charge for various reasons. If you want to get down and dirty and get some revenge I would find out where this guy lives and go poop on his Front step in place the sunglasses on the evidence…… I’m sure you can think about other ways to get revenge……
They Doc. I understand your pain. I used to be very attached to a pair of sunglasses too since it’s rarer to find the right size. They discontinued it so I went and bought a few aftermarket, I got burned a few times and built this emotional attachment to them. I eventually just paid more for the brand new ones. It wasn’t about money. Long story short, they just collect dust now, you can only wear one pair at a time.. go watch Fight Club as reminder for not letting material things matter. Hey mate... going back about 3 months ago I got scammed buying protein powder. Lost over 5000 baht.. My girl ( who is Thai ) filed a report with the police, took them a few weeks to track him down but they got. Just waiting to hear from the police for the next step... I think you should report it to the police... photo copy all the messages sent between both of you before going, plus whatever other information you have ...

And that's the problem is you know you want to be able to warn people but because of some of the laws here it makes it very very difficult for us to leave any type of review or to file a complaint about a company or a business makes it very very difficult.......
Oh man! I'd probably file the police report and forget about it. In the meantime buy a pair in Patong for 200 baht. I'm still upset about our 599 baht air fryer that didn't work. We also were "ghosted" after the sale.

i think you have already decided what to do, i would of filed a report with the police and put it down to learning who i can and can not trust, and tried to forget and move on, but breaking the glasses negates any claims for returns and refunds as un likely as that would of been, thanks for sharing and try to view what you are buying in person, or go through reputable online stores cheers

I bought a pair of cheap sunglasses during my last visit to Thailand to wear while driving my scooter , they had the clear frames with the blue lenses and I thought they looked cool , problem is you can’t see through them ,( I tried them on in the store but thought they weren’t that good because it was dark in there )…. you litterally can’t see the road good enough to be driving anywhere near being considered “safely “,.. I only payed 300 baht for them so it’s no big loss, I don’t know what you payed but I’m sure it was a heck of a lot more than I payed ,… I’d be pissed if I were you !

Doc try to file a Police Report. Hope is that that Police will not be at the scammer side and not at your side (as you are Foreigner in Thailand, who knows how the Police will treat you?). Try to file the report and see what happens. I hope there won't be too much bureacracy involved. Once in Brazil, i got scammed and filed a report. The police laughed saying that the scammer was a police man, can you believe that? Cheers

When it comes to stuff like this, if you got the information about the guy at least forward it to the police. It might not get any traction but if he keeps doing it and enough reports are made *something* might finally get done. Justice is a crapshoot with the police in my experience, but hope is everlasting.

Video evidence, videoed confession with police present, confirmed stolen goods that crossed state lines. Even a red state seems to care nothing at all about a six-figure theft. Civil law sometimes is the only recourse but we're still hoping criminal will surprise us, they haven't technically closed the case yet.

Cool down & let it go, unless you are willing to risk some potentially serious/dangerous consequences. If you file a complaint with the police, make a lot of noise in public (or online) and push it to the point where the seller actually loses business - and, more importantly, loses face - you can expect that he will do whatever it takes/costs to get revenge. Remember that dishonest people tend to have equally dishonest friends. If the seller has friends of the official type, you could end up listed as persona non grata, be deported and perhaps permanently banned. And, that would actually be a relatively best case outcome. Because, if the seller has friends of the unofficial type, you could end up getting jumped & beaten to death, or found floating face down in a body of water, with various parts of your anatomy missing, via surgical removal by a dull knife. Never forget that you are not in Canada. You would be playing this game of revenge in Thailand, where you do not know the players, the referees, nor all of the rules. No one is likely to have your back, if the s**t hits the fan. And, next time you buy something, which is so personally important to you, go to the store and make your purchase in person. Buying anything sight-unseen means that you need to accept the risk that you will get ripped off. This even occurs on Amazon (happened to me just last year - and, yep, I was pissed off, too). "... I would have no problem going to court and defending myself...." Unless you have prior first-hand experience in a foreign court of law, you should not jump to this conclusion. It is not a good idea to assume that a foreign legal system - one based on a completely different culture - will operate in the same manner as in Canada or the US. And, even in the US, the outcome would not be guaranteed. Photographic proof & correspondence can be arbitrarily thrown out by a judge, esp. since this sort of evidence can be easily faked, using Photoshop and other computer-based tools. The seller could claim that you are the one who is trying to pull a scam. He could say that he did send you the correct item and now you are just trying to get back your money, by creating a false chain of evidence and pressuring him with threats of going to the police and/or giving him bad online reviews. He might have his own fake chain of evidence, as well as witnesses ready to testify in court. If this happened, I would not place a bet on which way a US judge would decide the matter, so I certainly would not risk it in a foreign court of law, where the deck would already be stacked against me, as a foreigner. I like your content, in part because you always advise erring on the side of caution, as a guest living in a foreign country. So, just think of me as repeating what you would likely say to someone else, in the same situation. :)

Thais know farangs cannot do much. Farangs should know better than to deal with them and especially online. I exported and imported with China for over 20 years and after this I thought dealing with Thais would be easy but I've tried to do business with them on several occasions but unfortunately found our business experience and expectations are worthless in Thailand. I got burnt and learnt from it. Never again.

If they do just book one to Cambodia get some insurance on it and then cancel it once you get here.... One thing you can do to prevent being scammed. Stop coveting such rare and expensive items. Criminals don't target the common and inexpensive, because there's no profit there for them. Walk into Lotus's find a pair of shades you can live with and sabai sabai. If you want the most expensive sh!t you attract the cheapest flies.
Well here's the problem with that mate,,,, I burned my eyes when I was younger in a welding flash and my eyes are extremely sensitive to the light so I need a specific lens and the Ray-Bans are by far the best not the new ones but the older ones and what I was looking to buy was a vintage pair of 1980s Ray-Bans a very specific pair ones that I wear quite frequently.... Mark, you have all the proof and documents. At this point, what do you have to lose? Go to police and see what happens. For you personally, it will probably make you feel better that you tried everything you could. At the end of the day though, it sucks for sure but, I'll be shocked if police do anything. Sorry man. Chalk it up to experience. Learn from it and move on.
