As Kuba Klawiter once said: "the key to finding good sounding (...) headphones is to not compare them". I think it is true, my headphones always get pulverised by everything, but if I don't know the difference between my 70$ ones and some high-ends, then I won't miss the amazing sound of the expensive ones
Bro he has a video where he talks in front of the camera on his other channel, it's a video about "youtube hating him" on his the simspons edit channel
The cable getting chewed by rodents is the reason I don't buy wired ear/headphones. I really wish the replaceable cables were a more common feature on mid-range sets.
Akg nowadays is doing alright. They made some pretty good budget closed backs. K361 and k371. Old akg wasn't really able to make a competent closed back...
Those are fake Samsung earbuds. Samsung doesn't sell them anymore and they sold them for $100 new, so it's safe to assume they're all fake. The real ones have a matte, charcoal housing.
2:40 its even better when you have a pair with a woven cable, and the tips under the buds are metal, so when you wear your earbuds in the winter, especially under fuzzy clothes, they shock your ears and deliver the sweet sound of static discharge straight to your ears
@Whit-mh9nt "winter" is like the wet season, except all of the water is replaced by little pieces of ice called "snow" and the air becomes wet and dry at the same time. And during this horrible time, whenever you touch a piece of metal you might get electrocuted. Not every piece of metal, but any piece of metal.
i always find myself rewatching these videos, not to relearn the information, but just cause your personality and charisma in these videos is genuinely so funny and inviting, this has to be my favourite channel on RU-vid, love the vids!
@@didinadidinek6268 Same!! Just got a new phone, first new phone I've ever actually had and I was super excited to try out the sweet AKG thingies. I love them! Atleast with the music experience I have, they're great!
Comparing to my tin t2 and blon bl03, I don't think they are bad. They sound good enough, truly, they have no soundstage, but they have good definition.
Dank talking about the samsung pods: "And these are..." Me: "Oh I remember having those, they were the best buds I owned for a while!" Dank: "Terrible. Disgusting."
The AKGs that came with my S9+ were acutally quite good. The bass wasn't the best but the rest was enjoyable. Maybe he got a different pair, or I'm just terrible at recognizing good/bad sound lol
I just got my first ever pair of KZ's and they sounds amazing! They're probably the best earphones I've ever had and I'm super pumped knowing that earphones can get so much better than this
Do your KZ's have white noise? I got my pair and for some reason, when I was listening to a streamer, it may be his mic or whatever, I get white noise. This constant buzzing noise in the background is driving me nuts
The mic test bits are fricking hilarious! I have a friend who also is an audio engineer and got me into audio, then that same friend also introduced me to your channel and instantly became a fan. More power to ya, Aussie audio guy!
Have been using the KZ ES4 (20€) for about two years now. They are pretty damn good, compared to much more expensive IEMs I've tried. There is a bit of sibillance though. Got my sister the KZ ZSN Pro (24€ non X) and they are quite a bit better than mine. They sound more balanced and the materials feel better. You have good reason to be excited!
@@toastedphantom3007 Hey! Im thinking of buying zsn pro x's.Did they have any problems with their build quality, did you have any problems? I read some comments about kz's breaking very easily. Are they true?
@@cenay3043 I have no experience with the Pro X version only the Pro ones. Also I only used the ES4 for extended time. The only problem I came across was that my cable became hard and wire-like. I guess the plasticizers have worn out. I accidentally dropped them on a tile floor once and the casing of the left unit one broke open. Glued it back together and they still work like they used to. As I said, the ZSN Pro's aren't mine so I can't tell much about them.
The Samsung akgs came with my work phone and was better than my cheepo sony earbuds. The mic on it is better than the phone mic so they've come in handy. Waiting for some kzs. Just bought some sony earbuds and man they're worse for cord noise and it's driving me nuts.
After learning about KZ, I got myself into an IEM rabbit hole for the past 3 years. Things I learned: 1: Headphones companies sorta suck at making good IEMs. 2: Chinese are *Really* good at making IEMs that can beat HD600 in terms of audio quality for cheaper. (Moondrop, Truthears, etc) 3: KZ is one of the bottom of the barrel in terms of audio quality, price performance ratio, and legitimacy. (The KZ IEM put in essentially fake components inside and increase cost. It's fraud.) You can buy cheaper IEM than KZ for $15-$25 which can easily rival audio quality of Grados SR80X (Moondrop Chu, Moondrop Chu 2, Moondrop Quark DSP, etc)
How do you like the Truthear Reds compared to the Chu? Just got them as my first set and I’m blown away how much better they sound than my $250 AirPod Pros sound. Until my cat was messing about with the cord and the right bud went out. Little wench chewed right through the cable. 😂
@@wojciechd6765 Are you sure they are not biased in any way? Could be funded by Duracell to keep us all feeling safe and secure while they murder Pkcells left and right!
Chi-fi has come a long way in a short time. They've gone from just ripping of single dynamic driver designs with mediocre results to designing sets with 12 balanced armature drivers per ear with 3D printed sound tubes to pipe the sound from the drivers to the nozzle. It's impressive how much progress these companies have made in just a few years, especially at the price points they're targeting. Most of that is thanks to companies like Bellsing, umm... ...'borrowing' designs for balanced armature drivers from Knowles and producing them with much lower production costs in China. People seem to be quite fond of the KZ AST, which is the 12 BA set in question.
Yeah I got some ZSN Pro X's based on this video and like wow it's like unlocking the rest of your music Listened to that Floating Points/Pharoah Sanders/LSO collaboration and they're surprisingly details with being able to hear footsteps and the creaking of the floor and chairs and Pharoah's breath through the saxophone, would've never heard that level with the old samsung in ears i got for a fiver
@@mndlessdrwer Chi-Fi is also entering a new era with the CCA NRA and KZ ZEX. They're bringing low power electrostatic drivers to the lower price segment now.
@@jacobnathanielzpayag3885 Yeah, though there's still some build quality and design limitations with those. Edit: I think my absolute favorite relatively attainable IEM has to go to the GS Audio GD3A, at $86+S&H. It's worthwhile, though, to add the extra $10 to the order to customize it with a metal nozzle for improved eartip compatibility. Alternately, the TRI Starsea with the DioFit Standard Leakage eartips make for an excellent performing pairing at around $150+S&H. Without those eartips, their performance is significantly impaired, and I wouldn't necessarily recommend them.
I want to thank you for recommending the KZ'ds. I had no idea what audio sensations I was missing. Thank you for starting my path into the audiophile territory/rabbithole. :D Seriously they are so good I bought more to give as birthday gifts for the rest of the family. Keep up the good work on reviews, weird old tech and Garbage Time (how I first found you), keep being awesome :D
I'm so glad DankPods is able to explain how you can literally hear how some earbuds rub up against things. I have this problem with my Beats and I thought I was crazy!
"This one time I was workin at Mc Donalds mate and I uh I was just ready to quit, and I had to dump the fry oil, So I dumped it into the parking lot, hah man never seen a prius drift that fast before in my life, got sent into a pole m8, needless to say I dont work there anymore." -sam 2018
I think meze have just sold him on their build quality, meze products aren't bad but they consistently sound bloated and muffled, even their empyreans which I liked the most sound wise were far less enjoyable than an hd600. The meze iems were actually shocking as they were just very undetailed.
I like how you show just because one quality goes up doesn't mean they all do, as with the mic being better on the $18 pair than the $35. I have the AKG but only use them as a mic for casual PC gaming so it's good to know people can actually hear me 😅
I was a fan of KZ iems because the were the best sub $10 earbuds I could get where I live. After my ATR died, I got myself a pair of TRN TR1 and they seem infinitely better than my old pair. For $9 and change you get a replaceable cable, bigger soundstage and tighter bass. Yes, they still use dynamic drivers but for the price, they are hella fine.
I have a pair of ZSN pros and they are really good for the price EXCEPT the sibilence is really harsh right out of the box. So eq is recommended but besides that they're awesome
For the iSines you gotta use them with iPhone. I used to have a pair of 20s (they broke after 6 months, terrible QC) and they sounded tinny as all hell without the specific chord that’s got the built in EQ. With that chord tho, they were nuts
@@kaeroseon the isine has a special iPhone cable that uses dsp to eq the normally terrible (almost broken) sounding frequency response to something similar to harman. Owning a pair of isine 10s myself they kick the ass of a lot of iems for the 150 bucks I paid for them.
I got a pair of KZ after hearing you talk about them so long since the cable is ALWAYS the thing that breaks on my wired earphones first. Not the highest end model. The ZST. I appreciate them so much! Thank you for sharing about them. I got mine without a microphone but I love them otherwise. I’m investing in the wireless attachment for use on my iPhone without needing the adapter every time.
I bought the kz zsn pro x's off your recommendation they're really good, comfortable and sound amazing. Thanks for giving us some good ideas on cheap iems.
@@shahsoftinc.2459 His review describes it best, but i'd say they're balanced, not to much bass just enough to get you where you're goin. I use these to game, listen to music, and listen to podcast and they're great for that.
So, I’ve got a pair of the Sennheisers… the earlier versions of them didn’t hold the tips on properly. Needless to say, I pushed them in too far and ended up having to goto hospital to get the tip removed from in my ear.
I almost had the same fate... when I was younger I saved up for some $50 sennheiser earbuds and my sister forcefully ripped one out of my ear and the ear tip came out enough so it fell off but if she pulled a little softer then I would have an ear tip in my ear
Had to go re listen to September to see what bongo man was. As a kid I always thought it was a cowbell, but with good sounding headphones and speakers its a slap in the face lol
The dog biscuit story has been my favourite mic test story you've done so far! It would be cool if you made one big video with all your mic test stories so far! All just thrown in back to back!
rewatching this for like the hundreths time and actually came up with a question: does anyone else deal with "amplified footsteps"? like youre walking with your buds in and you get that thumping from your feet which actually is strong enough to overpower the beat of the music playing (which then condemns you to always walking to the beat). is there a way to deal with this?
try walking softer :D I got mine clipped to my collar, which does a lot to stop noise from further down. Oh and make sure that what you have plugged in at the end doesn't move around like a jackhammer.
Don't forget that fiio also make a Bluetooth neckband adapter (LCBT2). Personally that's the one I'd be more interested in, I'd much rather have all the weight around my neck rather than bouncing around behind my ears. 24h battery life and LDAC support too!
As a guitarist I have money to get one thing, so I'll always go for companies who are so confident that a youtuber tells them not to send them anything and they send them one thing that sits in a corner for months, and then the reviewer opens it and it is amazing and glorious and heavenly, that's the product I buy, that's what fiio wants.
I got a confession to make. Although I'm Spanish, I think I got a decent level of English but I swear to god I still can't understand s h i t when you try microphones so I just laugh for half a minute listening to your accent lmfao
The AKGs you buy off of eBay are almost always knockoff ones. The official ones that come with the phone actually sound pretty good. They are hard to find being sold separately so good luck finding them.
Stealth upgrading/downgrading is also a problem in most electronics now, where companies (or even worse, the fabricators that the companies pay to make their products) silently replace internals of existing products with inferior components over time. I found this out with Creative IEMs, there's a nice cheap set for about $10 that was my go-to disposable pocket set, had a set from 2005 that sounded great, got the same set again in 2012, sounded like shit. Looked exactly the same on the outside.
The EO-IG955 (the ones that Dank most likely got the knock off ones + also the default IEMs that came with the Phone) are pretty good for around $5-10, IMO. The cable is cheap, but I could tolerate it so its pretty good.
talks about beard then shows self picture. all this time ive imagined dankpods as mozzie from r6 siege... and ill continue to do so as he sounds more like him than his actor does haha
I'm Romanian and into high-end audio yet have never heard of Meze Audio until stumbling upon your channel (which I have been binging for the past few hours as of this message). Thank you very much for bringing them to my attention and for mentioning where they come from!
KZs are great value. They helped me get into the hobby when I did not have much to buy any better stuff. Always will have a special place for them in my collection. The Blons would be a great addition to this list.
@@abhayrajeev7216 I had the KZ ZSN and ZSN pro long ago. If you’re looking for a KZ, you could also research on the KZ ZEX; I’ve heard they are very good. Some other options in the same price range would be the Blon BL03 and the Blon BL01. I’ll pick the Blon BL01 or the 03 as my preferred sets among these.
One thing about the KZ tho. I own a KZ zsn pro X, and the plastic part on the buds where you attach your cables will possibly bend and break. So although it's a pretty good bang for your buck, you have to use them carefully. Don't drop it or EVER try to bend the plastic part while the cable is attached to it.
2:27 this was so shocking to me idk why, I was NOT expecting him to have a beard, I always imagined him to be a baby face
Trilogy 2 by Chick Corea is a pretty outstanding live album if you want to compare sound stage. Its only a drummer, pianist and an upright bassist but they sound so wide and big. With good headphones the sound is all around you.
Wish I'd have seen this before buying IEMs, I mean, I ended up geting Fiio Fh3's, they're really good. I thought they were made out of metal for a good while until the back popped off one of them, I just superglued it back together. I also just bought some wireless Jabra 85ts and maybe I wouldn't have if I'd have seen the bluetooth adapter by Fiio, but I've been using cheap amazon wireless buds that just hang in your ear for about a year so anything is gonna feel like an audiophile's dream in comparison
4:20 "those dog biscuits were 3 years old, they are still pretty good - not as good as the samsungs" Yeah, Samsungs beans are so so, but biscuits are the best
I think he may have gotten a knockoff pair or maybe they don't fit right. I think they're pretty decent for being "free.' Edit: Samsung originally sold them for $100 or included them with their flagships. Those are definitely fake because the housing looks different to the real ones.
It's been almost a year, but do you have any idea what's the actual model in amazon? I keep seeing different sellers with weird names and wanted to know which one's the legit seller
