Completely different from 300 SL. It may look similar to a 300 roadster and share some interior components but that is all. Chassis, body, engine, transmission, drive train are all totally different. The 190 is effectively a Ponton sedan underneath and in the engine bay, whereas the 300 has a unique geodesic space frame and completely different engine/drivetrain.

Exactly correct. My parents bought a '57 190SL in 1960...my sister sold it last year. I bought a '63 190SL in 1978 and it's going on BaT soon. They are great cars, but share the chassis with the 180 sedan despite light alloy doors and hoods. The 300SL has the block and swing axle of the 300 sedan, but huge brakes, fuel injection and awesome space frame. That is why they are 7 figure cars, whereas 190SLs are considerably less.

Omg true, the 300 sl gull wing will always be my favorite car but the 190 sl looks the same but without those wing doors and like cheaper so i dont have to spend like 2 million for it
