I was in college when I honestly asked a friend, "What does easy like Sunday morning mean?", because the song didn't make sense to me. Sundays were not easy for us church folks.
Yes....church on Sun plus dont forget a Sun evening service at another church..Bible study..wed...choir practice..thurs...youth meetings or district youth meetings on Sat. VBS during summer.. Church baby!
Balance is key. Too much of anything, including religious activity, is not healthy. I know people who grew up like this who almost never go to church now because they got burnt out on church as a youngster. Besides, we are called to be lights in the world, how can we do that if we spend every moment of spare time in church?
@@hcrobin Preach the truth, well said. I think we too often confuse legalism with sanctification/holiness. The strange thing is, this kind of relentless activity isn't even biblically sound. Rest should be part of one's rhythm i.e. a Sabbath lifestyle. Physical exhaustion leads to all kinds of complications; spiritual, psycho-emotional as well as physical.
All Sundays were just gone... Morning Midday and Evening services with class in between and visiting the sick before Evening service. It was alot but I'd give anything to see those old faces, hear them singing and just fellowship once again.
Being a pastors grandkid I can confirm we didn’t go nowhere but church, a restaurant, and back to church on Sunday!😭🤣🙏 And as much as we were at church all week I’m surprised my family had all the bills paid on time!😂
Lol. Mann I grew up Pentecostal...then when. We moved and our church disbanded, we end up going to our local Baptist church. So refreshing for me going into my late teens. Lol
Feel you, Sir!! All my life as the COGIC Assist Pastor and Missionary's kid!! Sunday 9:30 am Sunday School 11:00 am Morning Worship 6:00 pm YPWW 7:30 pm Night Service Monday - 6:00 pm Youth for Action (5:30 pm during daylight saving) Tuesday - 7 pm Bible Study Friday - 7 pm Night Service Saturday 2 pm Choir Rehearsal (depending on who was on whose choir) Not including district meetings, consecration unions, youth conventions, call meetings, YWCC, anniversaries, 5th Sundays, VBS, singings, holiday plays, funerals going to visit other churches, etc. Not including being the first and the last to open and lock up. Then trail the older Mothers home or take communion. Truth be told, some of these could have been combined into one night activities. Youth in the Fellowship hall. Saints in the sanctuary. Now they are doing services with live and Zoom options. Watching my 88-year-old Mama and the older saints on Zoom early pandemic was hilarious!! Yes, Lord!! Drove us crazy then, but still good times!! We will never see these days again. 😢
I know that COGIC life all too well! Lol You forgot the occasional 3:00 Sunday service! The mothers would always cook and sell $3 plates between regular service and 3:00 service so we didn't have to leave. And don't think for a second that night service was canceled 😂
I was COGIC too. My kids didn’t understand the struggle. I’d say you guys only have to go twice a week now, Wednesday and Sunday. There’s no Sunday night service.
And don’t have your pastor preaching at another church for second service lol I grew up Baptist, two congregations in one building in the heart of Harlem. There were not enough MLK Jr. fans to go around lol good ol’ times!
No lies Kev. I feel ya homie. Mom's and I did church 3-4 times a week. Not including double backs on same days, vocationals, revivals, guest speaker visits, anniversary services, etc. 😆😆😆 .Thank God for it tho, wouldn't change a thing. ❤
We need to bring this back. Along with church picnics, convention, church shopping trips, etc. My Pentecostal church was no joke. We were there all day Saturday and Sunday. We had choir practice, then dance practice, then cadets (which was NJROTC for church), then step practice, and drama practice and Rhema practice. Sunday was Sunday school, church service, ministry meetings, and then evening prayer at 6pm and it didn’t end until after 9. I’m grateful for it all at my big age now.
Imma bout to go lay after all this but I miss the structure and the order. Them conventions were fun and when the church tried to consider the youth and do youth trips to amusement parks, etc. I wish my kid would truly know what this foundation is like.
This is so true this is how we did it and don't forget revival time during the week as well. Yes Lord Jesus we sang hymns indeed Lord knows we need to bring the ole time way back in the church glory to God hallelujah. Kev you cause my spirit to leap singing my God my God that brought back memories and Kev if you had kept on singing honey I would have been shouting all over my living room thank you Jesus
I was so happy when my mom found a man that said God was within and not at the church. She really made me mad when she had me getting out of school at 4 then bible study at 8. It was too much. I don’t know who she was trying to prove a point to but I’m just glad it stopped lol
Lol. But yeah, I don't go to church much nowadays...but I learned how to tap into and connect to God without that too. Although I'm going this morning....in a long time. But yes, God can't be quantified. It's within....it's All Over.
😮 I wish I could've seen the look Kev's cousin made when he saw this video! He's a grown man but you know he still got in trouble for Kev snitching in this video. 😂 😂
My mom worked at the church, so my schedule was pretty much like this, plus I was there every day after school until I was about 12 years old. Every Wednesday we left church a little after 5 just long enough to get something to eat. We were back by 7 for Bible study. I remember me and my brother playing hide and seek in the sanctuary. I learned to drive in the church parking lot.
Aight, I’ll go. My church schedule from birth until around 12 years old: Tuesday - Bible Study Thursday - Prayer Service (You read that right) 1st, 3rd and 5th Friday - Special service held by a specific department (they rotated) Saturday Morning and Evening - Youth and Mass Choir rehearsal respectively Sunday - 9a Sunday School, Service started at 11a and ended around 2:30p. 90% of the time, there was a 2nd service from 6-9:30p Revivals (with a theme) were once a month and lasted Mon-Fri every time. We would get home almost midnight on school nights lol
Even when we switched to non-denominational church, we were still there 3 days a week. Like can we go home? And they did not care about it being a school night. But if you wanted to have fun on a school night, it was a no. 😅 Revival week was the worst. Sun up to sun down and you had to fast. Just starving, hot and tired.
I went to Sunday night service until I left my childhood church and in retrospect it is wild to me that Sunday night service was/is a thing. Going to a nighttime service for bible study during the week is fine, but to come back at night after spending all morning/afternoon in service is just too much!
Kev We Just Had Our District Council Convention This Week Here In California. The National Convention Will Be In Baltimore This Year. We STILL Waving The Blood Stained Banner 😁👏✝️
Also, I loved getting a chicken or fish plate from hospitality downstairs between services. My mom would sneak me a piece when it was her Sunday to serve in the kitchen 😂 So good! ❤
Yepp basically going to church every day of the week was my life -plus it was a church/school. Plus youth group activities on Wednesday and Saturday nights. Then church on Sunday All day and especially if there was a revival .
I was so happy to start going to a church that did not have Sunday night services when I was a teen. You could barely take a nap with Sunday night service.😩
I have to throw in dance and choir rehearsals on Wednesday and Saturday. 8 am service on Sunday mornings. I was at every single YPWW - my mom was the youth ministry director. And any day that I was sick because the altar was my hospital bed.
I feel like this is me. I had to be at church so much I got teased about it at school. My grandmother had church in her home and traveling church, and there was no missing church. I sang in the choir my whole childhood until I moved to another city. All of my cousin, all of us had to sing. Everyone had to sing or do something in the church. I also helped with the food in the kitchen for after service. And you are right, you could never get comfortable.
I raised my daughter in church we was on church from Sunday to sunday....there was always something to do in church....being in church like that kept me and my house near the cross
Nope couldn’t do it. Heck my mama could barely do it as we could count on her to skip a Sunday when my step dad was out of town for army reserves. The early service was like going to the church from Sister Act BEFORE Sister Mary Clarence got the choir together.
I would have unalived myself if I had to endure this much church and I say this as a child who attended private Christian school from both through 3rd grade.
This is the whole truth. I’m willing to believe that every kid that grew up like this, when they got of age, they took a few years off of church and came back to the Lord later lol. Thank God for saving me
When he said "Or you go home to eat, relax a lil bit, but YOU CAN NEVER FULLY RELAX because you're going to night service" or what we called second service--I felt a pang of despair reminiscent of what it felt like to get up on Sunday afternoon as a kid to get redressed and go back to church for the second time that day and the fourth time that week.
That was me on wednesday nights. Id be PRAYING mom wouldnt make us go to youth night. I never made friends or had fun there. She really thought she was doing something for me and my brother and we HATED it
I’m Missionary Baptist. We didn’t stay all day in church unless we had a second program. Monday prayer, Wednesday Bible study, Friday evening choir practice.
Yup that was me growing up Sunday morning Sunday night, wensday evening and Friday night service, Saturday something was always going on from having free clothes to plate sale and even cleaning the church .
Wow. I remember the time in childhood when i spent 3 weeks at my cousins house. This was pretty much the schedule. I got mad one time when we had to go back to church on Sunday evening except all of this happened on a Sunday. Never did that again. It was exhausting 😩
Usher board meetings, Pastor's Aid meetings, Jr Ushers meetings, Missionary Meetings, Jr Missionary Meetings, Deacon board meetings, Noonday Prayers, etc Basically church all day, EVERY day!!!
Yessir. Sunday school, morning worship, evening worship, Tuesday night bible class, Thursday night prayer service was the foundation. And you didn’t miss for nothing. The number of times I sat in bible class in my football stuff because I had to go straight from practice to church… 😂
Shoot, we'd go to a close by restaurant with other family members and go back to church for 2nd service (night service). I loved church back then. Nothing like it. The music, the modesty, the Christ-likeness. Good times.
Yep & during the summer vacation Bible school. And had same experiences they did things to keep the children busy in the chuuch & many still found time to sin within the chuuch! From fights, sex & dipping away & returning as if you never left. And I had a granny whom was one of the missionary mothers of the church. She'd open & close for EEEVVVVERRRYYY service chiiile rest her soul. I can honestly say I miss her but none of the chuuch & services, well except the choir & music.
Monday- Prayer Wednesday - Mid-week service Friday - Praise and worship Saturday - car wash/bake sale/fundraising Sunday - Early morning prayer, Sunday school, regular service, Night service
My church schedule growing up. Monday - visiting & prayers with the siclk & shut-in ministry (nursing home ) Tuesday - Tues Night Prayer Service Wednesday -Adult choir rehearsal (we had to go with our mom) Thursday - Children's choir rehearsal Friday - Youth service Saturday - It was always a funeral or wedding Sunday - Sunday School 9am Praise & worship 10:30 Morning service 11:00am After noon service 3pm Night service 6pm FYI Haven't had a church home in 31 years i was burnt out by 18 of course i moved away from home by 18 lol (in my mom's voice) as long as you live in my house you gone serve the lord, well i still serve the lord just not in the church. House, im spiritual not religious
Absolutely 💯 even though I grew up MBC it was the same 🤷🏾. Church was a full time job with OT 😂. Probably why I refuse to only do 2 times a week service & Bible study now. Sadly with all this church not many had fruit or transformation but that's another story...🤷🏾
UPC London UK still has this timetable well into the early 2000's, I am so churchy I feel weird not reading something on tuesday or wednesday, and I have a serious bladder control due to Sunday service's
This is the true PAW service schedule I grew up on just switch Wednesday and Thursday. Parents didn't care about school the next day at all. And my mom was the church bus driver so we got home way later than everyone. Ooo, i dont miss those days
😂 Imma Church girl too, Kev, the only days I had off was MONDAY and TUESDAY, thats only because it was single Woman night and Single Men Night, I was a child, wasn’t no need for me to be there at my home church. If my mom’s friend had church service, I was there. I Was sleeping all the time in elementary school, but mostly Middle school😂
Add VBS and Christian Camp during the summer...and that too was my life. I cannot throw a rock in my family and NOT hit a pastor...lol...and I forgot about conventions.....
Sundays for me, mostly. Every Sunday all day maybe, but every Sunday nonetheless. Yearly revivals. Daily devotion at home (so no Prayer meeting and Bible study during the week. Fall revival. I grew up Baptist.
Amen 🙏🏾 😂 I’m a double pk too so you had to go to the revival even if you had a test the next day at school. And you’re told to pray and God would help you! 😮
Me! I'm also a PK... Sunday: Church/second service Monday: Choir Tuesday: Dance Wednesday: Bible study Thursday: Praise and worship Friday: Youth in action Saturday: Dance and choir **sigh** I think I'm STILL burned out
They definitely dont know. Not to mention going to the food banks, to pick up the food, we package and give out. Also those days where we walk in the community to pray and help people give their life to Christ.
My childhood church had evening service until about 11yeats ago, they got rid of it because by then the only people who came back were the deacons and their wives and the ministers and their wives, along with a couple older people who had nothing else to do with their evening.
Every summer for at least 10 years (8-18)I went to Junction City Missouri or Kansas City and this was definitely the schedule with my Uncle and Aunt 😂😂😂 and what made it worse all my cousins are female. But once I got 15 I definitely enjoyed the time spent
OMG PAW way don't forget tarry for holyghost session you be there all day plus true church kids every function would be @ church bday anniversary graduation you name it always @ church
This was my childhood as well. I tell people my extra-curricular was church. No sports, no instrument, it was church. Honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing. Now, I don’t know if I would have the stamina.
