0.2% of 10,000,000 is 20,000. So, its even more petty than you thought..

Great video. I'm also switching out the Lumary Tuya. I came to them after having caseta and "dumb" (Lotus) lights. The ability to control color temperature is what made me go the smart bulb route. I now decided to go with Hue... more (much more) expensive, but it is Zigbee with color temp so I can use adaptive lighting.

Hey Jeff. Nice ending to the year. 2023 has been my first year with Home Assistant, and your videos have been instrumental in getting our smart home to where it is today. So thanks a million and keep them coming 😊. My overriding goal once I create anything in our smarthome environment is "automating the boring stuff". While I do like a good control panel dashboard, having things just do what you need them to do automatically is so much more satisfying. I hope you and your family have a happy and prosperous 2024.

I just came to the same conclusions about TUYA and Matter as well. The amount of Matter devices I have added in the last 3 months is way up. It is now to the point I will search for a Matter device to solve a problem first and only look elsewhere if I can't find one. TUYA devices were attractive because they were cheap, but the cloud would get in the way sometimes. The crazy fast response time of my Matter devices is very appealing and some are very inexpensive. I really think 2024 is the year that Matter starts to matter in smart homes.

Research on how to migrate them to Local Tuya to move them to your local network and remove them from the cloud.

@@ojaiguru I got local Tuya installed and setup, but when I tried to get my vacuum to work it didn’t map the data correctly. I started to work on figuring out the mapping myself but stopped after a few hours. I decided it was not worth my time and energy. So I am going to just live with the cloud for now and slowly replace each item with Matter devices over time.

I agree about moving away from Tuya cloud. I gave up with Tuya Local, managed to get it working (which isn’t easy), only to find it only had limited support for my Tuya alarm system so went back to the normal Tuya integration which works perfectly but is tied to their cloud. Am replacing my Tuya T&H sensors with Govee BLE so it’ll be just the alarm left on the integration

Hey, any time my son doesn't roll his eyes, I count that as a win! (And when he actually *asks* for an automation, that's a life's goal checkmark!)

Good content but hopefully 2023 is the end of the 720p compressed to hell circa 2008 videos too 😅

Tuya has been a pain in the ass. My aircon is Tuya, and setting it up is a nightmare with localtuya, and the cloud is also a pain in the butt, with regular need to renew the account...

I don't think I have ever had to renew.

i dunno about you, but i WILL NOT use any smart home device that: - requires a server somewhere in the cloud to do its job - sends my info to a cloud server - requires a paid subscription to something. IOW, if it can't happen locally, it ain't gonna happen.

I don't mind cloud stuff. There are some things I want my smart home do that simply require the cloud because some things are just most cost effective to do in the cloud to get the results I want. Right now text to speech is one. And my smart home manages my life. So it needs cloud services in order to achieve that since I'm not always at home and some information is pulled in from other areas. I also don't mind subscriptions. I pay for Amazon Polly albeit it's a whopping 1.41 or less a month to get good text to speech. But for devices I need it to work with home assistant locally.

Jeff, have you ever done a review of Inovelli switches/products? I understand they are a US company and have been following them for a while. They are also coming out with an mmwave smart switch. It would be great if you can look at them in 2024.
