A “dangerous” video for plantaholics to see! Going to have to restrain myself when I go to his website. Visiting these nurserymen is such a brilliant idea, Jim (and Stephany). You’ve introduced us to some wonderful, knowledgeable people we would otherwise never know about and for that, I thank you! I love hearing the stories behind the plants. 💚
Interesting coincidence, I just discovered today that the 7 shrubs growing along my porch are osmanthus burkwoodii. I’d not heard of them before today. They’re nice plants, almost 7ft tall, small white fragrant flowers in spring, very resilient Edit - Fantastic video! This series of visits to experienced nursery folks is outstanding, one of the most illuminating on RU-vid. I could listen to plant experts talk plants all day long. The only thing “wrong” with this video is discovering they do mail order. This is going to be brutal on my bank account 😉
VERY interesting video! I could listen to Ted all day long. Thank you for touring these nurseries that a lot of us may not be able to visit in person. I’ll be checking out his nursery link for sure. Thanks Jim!
Jim, your giddiness was adorable! Thank you so much for sharing your time spent with colleagues, and providing a platform for them to share their expertise. Your series with fellow horticulturists have been a special treat amongst the weekly and monthly updates, watching your garden grow, and your gardening tips.
I am definitely looking forward to exploring this nursery -- thank you Mr. Stevens for having a mail order business for those of us outside your state.
This man is fascinating! He is sharing so much interesting stuff. He loves plants like I do. Thank you for sharing him, Jim. Also I love tea olives so it was all even more interest for me.
This is what I’ve been longing for!! I’m so very excited to have seen this video at 2 am! I want to jump into my car and drive there now! (9 hours away). All of what was discussed I hung onto every word. Jim you are sooo very beneficial for us gardeners. I am getting a degree that I couldn’t get when I was younger. Thank You, thank you, thank you. You are highly appreciated !!
Very interesting interview! Can't wait to check out more of his online nursery options! He is very knowledgeable and you can tell he really loves his plants.
I received a Sugarloaf Pink beauty berry and two Hummingbird clethra from them last fall-beautiful plants. They also survived our SW VA winter, which can be brutal on new plants because it can get close to zero and with zero snow cover! You can count on this nursery. I also have Jim to thank for talking up these species and varieties.
Jim! You gave away my secret spot! I'm 20 mins from there & have to resist a quick Saturday trip every weekend. Have several maples, including Hong long, 4 types of mahonia (not soft caress nor marvel) & several osmanthus from there. Their selection is great. I hope you got to meet Joe!
Oh, what a fantastic resource for those of us in North Georgia! Thank you, Jim, I have been holding out on buying osmanthus because of lack of variety at my local nurseries. This is kismet!!
I imagine you were excited Jim! This dude is a total rockstar!!!! That variegated osmanthus is amazing! Thanks for taking us along to meet all these horticultural wizards!
One of my favorite nurseries ever. Remember my first visit there as a young gardener at ABG back in the 90’s. I was knocked out by all the cool plants!
Ted Stephens, just like you, gives excellent highly technical information that educates us well. It is good to know the many details you and he share with us.
I’m so glad you visited Nur Car and interviewed Ted. I love going there and, even though my garden is tiny, I somehow find myself ordering from them twice a year. Candy store for plantaholics. Ted is amazing and so knowledgeable.
another great video with yet another fabulous horticulturist / nurseryman ... thanks for all the info on these fabulous plants and for the inspiration and encouragement to get them in the ground in my own garden - I just order two of the tea olives !!!!
Fascinating! Ted has a wealth of knowledge. I enjoyed hearing about all of his interesting plants. Jim I look forward to seeing what you brought home with you and watching it grow through all the seasons.
This is the BEST video - absolutely love the nursery highlights and amazing unique plants - not only does is hit the mail on the head with what I like to watch, it also adds to my weekend trips so I can travel and visit all of them! Also love the garden tours around the Carolinas. Great work Jim!
Thank you for this video. I really enjoy your channel. What an interesting nurseryman and incredible selection. I have heard and seen the names of some of the horticulturists and nurseryman you visit. It’s nice getting to see them on video with some highlights of their work. I have already combed through his online shop and placed an order! Looking forward to your next video. :)
Jim, thanks for that little bit of info on planting illicium. Same thing happened when I planted a Florida sunshine 4 yrs ago. It wasn’t till last year when it started to takeoff and not flop.
Ozmanthus can also be called Pearly gates. Mines in a pot, and has just finished flowering. Great winter interest.....along with Daphne and Erica and cyclamen. I'm looking to add some small trees that have berries for the birds during winter. Cheers, Jo from New Zealand 🇳🇿
I didn’t know what to expect when I clicked play, but this was fantastic!! My illicium floridanum was planted back in December on the north side of my house (some late evening sun) and it wilted a few times near 32 but otherwise has been happy and tolerated heat very well in GA.. hope to add more varieties to my landscape. I’m fascinated by the different varieties of osmanthus are they all similar in size??
Ooooweee!!! Awesome content Jim and Stephany! I want to go there and soooooon! It’s probably safer if I buy online otherwise I’ll go there and want to bring everything home with me! Or I’ll want to set up my own propagation pots like you showed us how in you last video😂😂
Ooooohhh! A new place to buy plants. Already filling my cart, although I hope they don't all sell out since it's too hot to have anything shipped right now. Would it be possible to espalier the Illicium Purple Glaze? I'm 6b, and have a protected spot along the side of my garage that gets some sun in the morning, then shady the rest of the day, but it's a narrow strip, so the plants need to be either small or somewhat flat.
Wait, you are leaving and you are not going to talk about Corylopsis spicata? 'Ogon' is to me, one of the best plants for a shade garden, and is pretty cold hardy...
I immediately, even before watching, went to the website and added 3 plants to my cart and tried to check out. Shipping for 3 plants was going to be over $51.00 and that's too hard to stomach. I am bummed because I really want those plants. 😥 I especially have been wanting an osmanthus.
