The whole video was great, BUT the best part is the end showing you interact with a customer and being transparent in pricing - even recommending another local alternative if that’s a better fit while explaining pro/cons. 👍🏻👍🏻

Just got this exact model from a guy who sells car parts. Very happy with it. I love the HDMI out! What I like the most is that it has some sort of TBC system built in.

The DigitalFAQ forum doesn't like this model unfortunately. You should digitize a VHS tape with it then rip the DVD disc, extract the vob, change to mpeg2. Then digitize in your usual way of Panasonic to Elgato. Then do a side by side comparison video here. I suspect that the current method is better. And would definitely be better once you deinterlace and denoise the avi file in Hybrid, something that cannot be done well with a lossy mpeg2 file from the DVD disc.

I wouldn't put too much stock on what DigitalFAQ says. They're often draconian when it comes to video capture and set in their ways, sometimes with the agenda of pushing expensive gear that's usually inapplicable for most people and use cases. For example, they think any other DVD-RW that isn't ES10/ES15 is useless, but I've personally used/owned an ES18, EZ28, and EH55 and they all were able to fix line tearing, jumping, glitches, and other issues on my SLP tapes that are comparable to the built-in TBC of a 1980p. In Emerald/Shawn's case, wherein he typically gets SP tapes that the customer just wants saved and aren't picky when it comes to fine details, a decent VCR and Elgato is fine (which you also said). Having any decent Panasonic DVD-RW as passthrough is nice to have on the side for that rare instance of a tape that's in awful shape.

I had a Fisher VCR that only had FF/REW keys on the remote. Was super fun when we took it on trips and forgot the remote. Only way to rewind a tape then was to start it playing and come back hours later after it hit the end and auto-rewound.

That VCR could actually be useful if you have a CRT with a DTV converter box, VCR, and DVD player that makes a big mess of cords and stuff
@orihalcon8693
@orihalcon8693 4 месяца назад
Ah yes, the EZ48V. There are a few out there that say that those are one of the best transfer VCRs, especially for the simplicity if dubbing to DVD. During your testing, the main reason to use one of these would be the "line TBC-like" function. See if you can find a video that has lots of distortion/tearing at the top of the image in one of your usual omnivisions and then try it in this and you might be very surprised to see that the distortion is gone with this one. HDMI out is kind of nice since lots of people have HDMI capture cards and you'll probably get a lot higher bandwidth of capture with one of those cards - though also much larger file sizes.

The EZ48V NTSC version is different from the PAL version. Apparently a different chipset. From what I read at DigitalFAQ the NTSC version has no special powers, as opposed to the ES-10 and ES-15.

@@thumperstrauss4431 the Panasonic ES30v/ES40v and also (iirc) the E80h and E85h all have similar chips to the ES10/15 and work really well at this too.

You often see digitizing businesses using Panasonics as pseudo-TBCs, with the VHS signal just being passed through them to be stabilized before actually being digitized by an Elgato or whatever. There's mixed messages on whether these EZ models even have that function, though. The preferred models are the ES10 and ES15.
@undustfixation
@undustfixation 4 месяца назад
From my experience, most of the 2004-2010 Panasonic DVD-RW models I've tested have similar (or at least unnoticeable differences) when it comes to their TBC-ish ability. I wouldn't be surprised if anything you don't see listed in most must-have passthrough units from that time period are just as good.
@undustfixation
@undustfixation 4 месяца назад
@@FalconFour Most digitizing businesses deal with home videos that were transferred by video companies back in the day in SP mode. Those hold up shape nicely and almost always never need TBC or much TLC. Source: The tapes I have from 1987 in SP mode are still pristine and way easier to digitize than tapes from 2007 in SLP.

The first thing that I would have done is remove the cover and check the caps and board for heat damage..Then clean the inside and heads..Then check the operations..putting the vhs tape in first risks damage...

I have couple of those around and they are great units. I dont really use them since i use svhs format but this for regular vhs user is very good. I use my SVHS for archiving home videos for every day use while original files i keep on PC. I know indo backwards from HD digital camera to SVHS when everybody does opposite but i love tapes and easier to pop video in and watch it on tape than looking for files that i keep on computer.

I have the 47 not 48 and usually the hdmi takes a long time to output signal. You can see in the front it was loading but you didn’t give it enough time to send the signal through the cable. It will say HDMI on the front screen before it starts sending Through that cable. The av outputs are always live which is why you saw the video like that and it will send to the highest output available so it went to hdmi when it was plugged in. The remote I use is a Panasonic dvd remote that came with the player. The back EUR7659T80 & 7N1Q where the battery cover is. The power button on the remote says dvd/vhs power which is a circle with an additional tv power button that’s a rectangle. Doesn’t mention vhs on the remote in big letters only Panasonic dvd on the bottom. Hope that helps

It should be noted that the Panasonic website does have a pdf manual on their site for this model, which is awesome. It may be beneficial in your spare time to see about the resolution of the dv-in as a passthrough then hdmi, compared to using the elgato. with composites. But who knows, it may just be the same. The unfortunate thing about most dvr pass thru by hdmi, no matter what settings are in your menu, will still stretch the 4:3 image. If I'm incorrect, commenters please educate me :)

I really hate how remotes go missing. And even if you go to use a universal remote. Good chance it ain't gonna let you do everything. Like the current Sony I got. The one button not on the machine, or on the universal remote. Is changing the tape speed. So its stuck in SLP for probably close to 30 years. Which sucks if ya ever want to record on it.
