I had to destroy the old workshop and rebuild a brand new one!

Replacing the old workshop in the back of my garden.
After some deliberation on how or if to repair the old shed after noticing it had sacked and warped considerably we decided to tear down the old workshop and replace it with a brand new one.
I tried to document as much as possible and I think I succeeded for the most part. Except when we were assembling the new shed and I forgot to check on the camera battery while it was shooting the Timelapse from a distance.
The new workshop is going to be very similar to the old one and I'm planning to make a video series on how I go about turning this shed into a guitar building workshop.

I believe the gentleman is located in Holland. I've been there a couple of times. Love it. Not sure if that is a water feature near the shop or perhaps ground water or some type of canal? Maybe someone can comment. This is a massive undertaking and it can get very discouraging. I'm going through a bit of the same thing shop and anxiety wise now. Similar situation with fitting out a new shop and tons of work. All my best to us both my friend. We will get through it!!

Being from the US, that is the most orderly demolition I think I have ever seen. Here, we just smash things on the assumption that we can just replace it with something newer and better and who cares about the old stuff.
@UnquendorGuitars
@UnquendorGuitars Год назад
Hi Michael. Not everyone over here does it like I do. Most would indeed just demolish it, trow it in a skiff and be done with it. I had to take most of the materials to our local recycle station and to avoid any discussions with the staff I always make sure I have everything sorted beforehand. Safes a lot of time and frustration. And I salvaged as much timber as possible to be reused.

@UnquendorGuitars
@UnquendorGuitars Год назад
Hi Rene, I wish I could have made it bigger, but unfortunately there isn't more space in my garden without having to also get rid of the pond. Also I think this is pretty much as big as I can go without having to file for a permit with the city council and more importantly without getting into arguments with my neighbors.

In your area do you use redwood or is it IPE or similar for the foundation beams? Sure is a cool shed system compared in the states. Cheers
@UnquendorGuitars
@UnquendorGuitars Год назад
The foundation beams are what they here call Azobe. It’s a tropical hardwood which is very rot resistant. It is often used in and around water for bridges and such.

Holy shit.. this is quite an update, wow this is interesting to watch. Tell me, how many square meters is your workshop ? Does it get cold in the winter in there ? Here in Sweden everything is very much overpriced, a shed like that would easy cost 5-6000 Euros in material only, and if about to isolate the whole shed to be able to use it even in the wintertime it would be about 1-2000 Euros more.. Great video.
@UnquendorGuitars
@UnquendorGuitars Год назад
Hi HearGear, Thanks. The shop is just under 12 square meters. I have to insulate the roof and with a heater it usually isn’t to bad in winter. Here in the Netherlands winters aren’t that cold anymore. To be honest I’m a bit jealous about Swedish prices for a shed like this. This shed costed me a bit more. Timber prices, among other things, have unfortunately almost doubled the last few years. Not much we can do about it unfortunately.
@HearGear
@HearGear Год назад
@@UnquendorGuitars Its very impressive what you can manage to build on 12 square meters, my current guitar worshop is the same size as yours but i am moving it to another room in the same building that is about 30 square meters. i also have a pedal business in the same building but in a different room with less space than 12 square meters. At least now you have a great shed that you can build awesome guitars in for many many years to come.

The shed was custom ordered and prefabricated by a company specialized in cabins and assembled on site. Much faster and cheaper than doing it all myself.
