Unquendor Guitars is a Dutch guitar builder making one of electric guitars and bass guitars one at a time by hand. On this channel you will find both demo's of the guitars I make and a behind the scenes look in my workshop.
Hi Daniel! Of course, the oversized inlay would fit fine on an unbound fingerboard, so perhaps it becomes an opportunity to have your version of PRS Birds across your range...!? I think the Phoenix brand is really exciting. As another thought, I can't be the only player who seriously appreciates the back of the guitar? It is a bit that is mine to see and I don't have to share with anyone. I have one guitar in particular where the back is clearly the most beautiful bit of wood in my collection. So for me, an extra inlay on the back of the guitar body would be wonderful...perhaps it can somehow weave in amongst the neck bolts? Either way, I think it is actually a fortunate event that leads to new opportunities 😊
I found this really interesting mate! Its a bummer about the slightly oversized inlays, but you can always put them aside for another build that doesnt have binding. And just think about what good practice it was. All of which is easy for me to say, I know.
Love the transparency and the more slow paced, and relaxed nature of this content man! As a fellow luthier I've followed your channel a while and i really enjoy the relaxed approach. Also in regards to showing mistakes, the Japanese of "Kintsugi" comes to mind! Ie: There is a beauty and an artform in making our mistakes and imperfections beautiful and the lessons that come with it.
This is my first view of your channel. Very interesting and enjoyable. The flow of work, commentary, and music was super smooth. I'll subscribe for sure!

Glad you keep the videos REAL !! Everyone makes mistakes !! It's all in how you deal with those mistakes that separates a professional from the amateurs !! *QUESTION* ... (I'm sure you'll show the answer to this later , but...) When you are setting the inlays into the feet board , will you be filling the routed out areas for the inlays with the orange epoxy first , then pushing the inlay pieces into the epoxy?? I would think that would help in preventing the "tiny gaps" you were speaking of in this video . Great episode by the way !!! Thanks for all you do , Daniel !!
Mistakes are just progress in another form - opportunities to learn and improve ourselves. I try to think of them as an investment in future success. Phoenix shall not be denied! : )
I'm sure we all feel for you regarding the first set of inlays. Could you use them in a custom guitar stand.or guitar hanger? They are too good not to use.
Your Live streams are very interesting to watch !! Thanks for doing them . Sorry I didn't catch it when you were actually live but at least I got a chance to see it afterwards!!
Something that i haven't seen any guitar video mentioning is solder flux ... The solder itself has flux in it , but especially for larger areas like the back of pots, the flux really makes life easy ... For wires, before i tin them i dip them in the flux and the solder is wicked so easily !!! A tub of flux is not expensive and it can really make your life easier 🙂
Two epoxy tips; never use quick setting “5-minute” epoxy. Besides setting too quickly, it cures very rubbery. Use slow setting epoxy. I use West System epoxy for gluing on fretboards. Epoxy does not stick to clear plastic packing tape. So use that on your gluing jigs.
My experience has been that no matter how well you plan out a guitar, the guitar has a mind of its own in the building process. They help design themselves! It’s like improvising with good musicians. Things happen unexpectedly!
That binding looks amazing !! Even better than I had imagined the solid orange binding would look !! It kind of reminds me of the multi-colored binding on a lot of acoustic guitars . I think it's called purfling. Please correct me if I am wrong . Great video as always !! Truly loving the content you're bringing to us now !! I especially like your humility and genuineness with us !! You're a fabulous artist who does not have an arrogant ego & that Sir, is very refreshing !!! Keep up the good work & we'll keep watching !!
Great work, Daniel. You handled the challenge that came with the new binding-venear like a champ. And those corners of the binding were perfect! Looking forward to the next video.
Epoxy is such a b****. Recently had to remove a Richlite fretboard from a neck where the 2-ton epoxy set up too quickly and it wound up misaligned. 2 hours of heating up a putty knife until it was red hot, melting about 1 fret's worth of glue, and prying up the fretboard bit by bit. Somehow managed to save both the fretboard and the neck, but never again! Glad your fretboard came out unscathed.
I use the plastic thin parcel tape on my clamping cauls instead of masking tape glue doesn’t stick to it as much as masking tape if that helps for the future mate Love that orange and black detail 👌👌
