I saw a new pattern online and knew immediately I had to make it! And a 1840s themed collaboration for Costube Symposium was the perfect excuse to get started. The pattern I used was by Black Snail, based on an extant gown from the Victoria and Albert Museum from 1837-1840. (I figure late 1830s is close enough to 1840s.) I used a reproduction cotton print and silk scraps for the dress and I paired it with a vintage ribbon belt, reproduction belt buckle and I even sewed a lace shawl from scratch using vintage lace trim.
