As ever down to earth and entertaining mate. I've got my raffle tickets, I mean who WOULDN'T want a London taxi to get around? Great fun watching people try to flag you down wherever you go!😁
My wife had a smart called Billy. Once she learned to master the gearbox she loved it. The smart club are a great car club and it returned 65+mpg on a run
@@christineayres7199 we have a 2011 CDI and it certainly sips the fuel! When I had the diagnostics plugged in I thought I'd run a fuel economy check and even going over the hills it was averaging 75mpg! In a flat 40 zone it was hitting 90mpg!
Love your honesty James, you are a good man for sure, keep up with the great videos. Any "Story time with James" coming up soon?, Keep safe, well and happy
That TT women has probably left the car abused, with no tlc and driven into the ground but still wants top money for it 😅😂 Does she really think it has FSH though 🤔.......? The delusion is real.
The Audi deal sounded like a bust from the word go. Glad you gave it the bum rush 😂 I have stopped haggling with folks i think its fair just to ask for the keenest price rather than cut them off at the knees !
Let her take it to we buy any car. They will soon knock her back also on the service history and alloys. Shes probably been riding the clutch also. Im very aware when they say lady owner. Sitting at the lights with the clutch depressed over the years. lol
I watch DGN Driving School. (Super Channel). Most of the test drivers keep the clutch down at lights and don't use the handbrake. WHY?. There's plenty of time to put car in gear and release handbrake on amber. Some Vauxhalls have excessive crankshaft end float probably not helped by keeping the clutch down at idle speed.
I sold a couple from Chudleigh knighton South Devon a dishwasher and a washing machine about 20 years ago they paid me and they gave me 2 gallons of their homemade scrumpy. I'm not a cider drinker but I took it because I didn't want to appear ungrateful . On my way home I gave a lift to a hitch hiker. I asked him if he liked Cider he said Yes. I said there's a couple of gallons of strong scrumpy in the back if you want it. He couldnt believe his luck . He looked as happy as a pig in s..t.
26:00 - P0402 is probably the EGR valve sticking open at a guess... they're meant to recirc exhaust gas back in to the inlet to help lower emissions. Problem is they get clogged up with soot (especially on diesels) and stick open instead of closing when they should. If you can get the valve off, you could clean it up and see if the eml goes away. Might need a new one though depending how far it's gone 😊
Agree with andy. Driving around, italian tune ups dont work on these modern diesels. Just creates more soot!....needs to come out and be cleaned. Along with cooler, associated pipework and intake manifold.
I think you've dodged a bullet with Mrs Audi, sounds like she is trying to offload a car which is probably riddled with issues due to the lack of servicing, sound like she has been trying to get rid of it for some time and is becoming desperate. I wonder if she has misunderstood the Audi dealer, they've probably told her it has service history UP TO 2016 which is in line with the Audi service schedule. I can't imagine an Audi dealer telling her it has full service history when it clearly hasn't, unless they are so desperate to try and sell her a new one.
Great work, Keith. Light at the end of the tunnel as they say. The numerous repetitive same old same old stages can grind you down, but the end result is what motivates. 🙌🏼
Oh I do love this channel some of the stories you tell are hilarious worth watching just to hear them Great work james and a lovely little set up you have…..maybe not so little anymore 👍👍
Just order the scanner, James - thank you. My step son borrowed my scanner years ago, since when, I have not seen it - although I have a Torque pro app anyway, this shall be so handy.
That mount looks fine, you'd feel the engine moving when you let the clutch out, inner driveshafts are a good possible, jack it up on axle stands and run it you may see the inner drive shafts wobbling.
@@ChopsGarage if it's shaking then drive shaft, maybe, take them out at the hub end and feel for play, things like this are so hard to find, tbh if it's not running right I'd not bother and sell it cheap or auction anyway mate, before you spend too much, that engines rubbish on those, people think vws are like 90s ones and there deffo not.
@@ChopsGarage yes bud, wish you luck with it, just had a call from Glasgow for my 500 sport, can I give you a bid, 3250 he says, then I said are you clear it's a cat car, no he says, then it's oh I don't want it, straight 40k sport 13 plate for 3250 (?) this jobs getting a nightmare, customers totally impractical expectations.
doesn't matter that the g/box slips my arse is loverly and warm !! why are such things as heated seats so important to some people, I just dont get it.
@@johndilloway9762 You'd want heated seats in winter if they are leather seats. But I agree, surely the mechanics are more important than the luxuries.
We have 3 Smart Fortwos and they all have scuffs in exactly the same places. Perfect little cars and handle much better than you expect. I filled ours the other day from empty, and it was £45, so a full tank isn't really worth as much as you think lol!
I think the EGR is only 4 bolts and is probably easy to get off and clean with brake cleaner or oven cleaner if you dare to try. Should be the same as the Jeep and chryslers that used them engines.
Just been advised that I should change the front tyres on my 928S4. They have 4-5mm tread on them still, but apparently are fifteen years old due to lack of mileage. Bummer but getting them done due to the nature of the car.
Got a ticket had ivory one before bought it private from Manchester broke down 18 miles in to its journey with knackered gearbox but this one from chops looks like a diamond.
I noticed, when I converted my Golf from dual mass flywheel to single flywheel that the vibration was noticeably increased in the way you described...maybe someone has converted this one?
James, thanks for your little review on the creader, on your recommendation, I bought one, spot on, identified an issue with my camshaft position P0011, thanks👍👌
Great thing to do the raffle im just going to get my tickets. I must say i have had dealings with a few traders but you are the most genuine one i have seen and would not hesitate to buy a car from you
The TT servicing is just a misunderstanding. Easily resolved, there's usually a service book in the glovebox that'll have the schedule in it. Or you can find it online. Audi are "hothouse flowers" - so they need fastidious maintenance. Not only are they quite prone to histrionics if not treated like royalty, they are expensive to fix as well.
one thing i found out early on is that you cannot educate the Public on anything Motor Trade, obviously a small amount are just dumb, but the rest are just not interested unless there is something to gain for them, the more you try to explain things the deeper down the Rabbit hole you will travel
@@ChopsGarage sadly i think most people believe the Motor Trade in general is dishonest, and some dealers and mechanics are dishonest including some of the main steelers, the sad bit is the good dealers and mechanics get tarred with the same brush, its always been this way and will never change as long as there is dodgy dealers etc, all you can do is continue to be honest, you are the perfect example of how it pays off so keep it up !👍
When looking at those vw engines bud, rev em up, run to the back and smell for oil burning, same on other vws, I had to re ring a golf a while back, did actually sort it.
These people can't be told, James. Not even worth wasting your time and energy trying to put people straight. That said, the amount of dealers that advertise cars as having FSH when there are huge holes in the service history seem to be all too common. Oil and filter change annually is the bare minimum and isn't asking much!
Try checking the dog bone mount to the rear of engine, on the VW they commonly disintegrate especially if there’s been any oil leak. Or they go soft. Good luck
Just realised i bought BMW from BMW dealer, said it was serviced. I never checked, some time later i checked service book, only stamp was 21k from previous owner. I bought at 29k. So if they serviced for sale, why no stamp? Just might be all on key and not in book. Why bother having a book.
Rubber could have gone on the engine mount underneath and transmit vibration, if it's a kind of shake tho it could be shafts, had a vectra and they were really bad, jacked it up and it was only the boot holding it on.
I have a identical taxi and my autel code reader wouldn't work on it because it wasn't listed . So I bought a £15 e bay special and it worked a treat . I have entered the auction but don't want another taxi 😂😂
Egr stuck open on the taxi bud, take it off and clean it out, I've done 2 this week on corsa cdti, s, it actually stops a corsa from starting if it's stuck open, you can check if it's moving on live data, nothing really to do with shunting up and down, more to do with it being a 200k plus diesel.
My 1.5 dci Renault Kadjar had a squeal/chirp like the Ssangyong has, turned out to be the auxiliary belt tensioner, had that changed with the belt and it’s quiet as a mouse
Can't really happen much now as mot history going back to 2008 is freely available so everyone can check mileage, virtually everyone checks mot/mileage history now.
7 minutes in James, cracking job on that i10. Only you could make an i10 look that good 😂 you're teasing me with that Suzuki sport in the background. Looking forward to hearing it's story later in the vid 🤞
Really enjoy the site. It does not go into great mechanical/electrical detail. I can get that from other sites but it gives me a different perspective from the dealers point of view. I have seen others but they tend to be more high level cars but I rarely see the basic affordable car end with as much honesty as here.
I bought myself a nice 10 plate Honda CR-Z with only 58k on the clock and full service history just yesterday from a dealer in Burnley for a very reasonable price. Drove it home (120 miles) on a variety of roads and I must say that I am loving it. Nice sharp handling and nippy when you want it to be. No, it's not powerfull, but the road tax is £25 per year and the fuel economy is very reasonable. Plenty of toys to keep you entertained and the stereo is banging (sub-woofer included as standard by Honda). Cheap insurance as well, being group 17.
You did right to avoid that tt bud, you've already got the golf with that engine, I avoid them, sold a tt with that engine in it, chain went next day without warning, did all the valves, there bad for oil burning as well, as you say 2016 is a long time ago for its last service, hyundai looked mint, looks like your heading up to 30 cars now bud.
@@ChopsGarage I'm at 40 bud, giving auction a miss for a bit, I can only just get round the yard now, , been on with some long stayers and shifted some, tbh it's mostly paint on them all.
The very fact that she still hasn't moved the car on says an awful lot. Folk should take into account on this that she is attributing a statement to Audi, not Audi or their agents doing so. Don't blame Audi for her claims. And, I have absolutely no association with or to VAG or any other car company, main agent or any business associated with the motor trade in any way for that matter so please don't bother to flame me.
If people are funny with me I fob them off st away, guy turned up the other day, was great on the phone, 4 missed calls, can you save it?, when he turned up first thing he said was fairly aggressive where do you get your cars from? St to the car, started pulling door rubbers away, I suppose looking for over spray, I said you seem the picky sort the cars not for you mate, we were near a fight at this stage, we both glared at each other and he went, all that in 3 mins, an hour later a lovely couple came, said wow we want it, totally different.
Audi do longlife service for high miles which is 18k/24month from memory and short life 12 month 9k for low mile drivers so you're right. She needs to take it to Audi if she isn't happy 😂
Vw golf might be DMF flywheel my Tiguan DMF is on the way out not rattling but loads of vibration had to have one fitted to wife's tsi petrol polo had same problem
Your business and you can choose to do business with who you want to … especially when buying, and those you don’t want to do business with … am sure you don’t lose sleep …
Start the engine give it a Rev u will see the engine lift if the mounts are done also leave it idle put a screw driver to your ear listen too the chassis side off the mount for vibration 🫡
@@ChopsGarage no probs great content as alway bud you have inspired me lately too get in to turning over a few cars nice break from being under them! 😎✌️
It might sound silly, but have you checked the tyre I had it once and I had a miss shaped tyre which is causing vibration but the tyre looked okay until I have put them on the balance machine
Surely it's based on mileage, come on your not buying a new car at 4.5k, if i had my car serviced and the didn't use it for a few years as long as the mot was good plus battery ect was all good, no problem, full service history
