I’ve learned from watching this channel is that JNC can get his tone with any guitar or amp.

I have one of these and love it. I switched the power tubes to EL34 and rebiased and it sounds amazing, especially when you put a Klon clone in front of it set as a boost

I bought one of these about 3 weeks ago. A few days ago I bought a Fryette PS-2A Power Station. I look forward to cranking the amp to awesomeness and taming the volume with the Power Station. :)

Hi! Picker S. Burchfield here. Ive had one of these for about 3 years and Really like it. My tech did a few things about 6 mos. in and no probs since. Ive just ordered the 5 Watt World BUSS pedal by Barber with a ODS Emulation setting. I think the OD sound on these amps benefit from a Really Good Dumble sound OD pedal' One thing I extra LOVE is the 3 way Bright switch to take out the icepick highs so many amps have. I bought a Bassbreaker 65 watt speaker cab for 250$ new for budget light carry rig. I ve had about 5 Dumble clones and this holds up fine for me. Would say try it to picking friends. Buy it where you can return it if you dont bond.

Hey, I was a bit surprised by your first video about this amp as you seemed a bit disappointed. We usually share the same tonal tastes and I've been very happy with this amp. It's also a great pedal platform, especially with the vwro, you should try it out, cheers

It’s weird that you got the effects loop to work without a buffer. I have one and tried multiple pedals through the loop and nothing worked. I ended up getting a kleinulator. Worked well

It would be very interesting if you get a hand on a DV Mark DV RAW DAWG - Eric Gales Signature Head or 60 watt version. Small head a very clean sounding and takes pedals really well according to what I’ve heard.

I had one few years back when they first came out. Far too clean, no break up at all, and not valve 🤢 😅 My amp now is a 1973 Fender Bassman Ten Silverface housed in a custom 1x12 combo enclosure with a Eminence Swamp Thang speaker. 🔥 The Raw Dawg EG head lasted a month if that before I sold it to my mate to 100 less than I paid for it new 😂 just to get rid of it.

Ooh, I really enjoyed this intro. FWIW, this is the kind of thing I'd like to see on Bandcamp or an EP for streaming on Spotify, etc. (vs. ambient soundscapes). Don't tell anyone, but I've already scraped some of your intros as-is for my playlists. -Tom

I like mine I bought it broken for 600.00 us . I actually custom built many Dumble clones this is actually modeled after serial no. 183 but, with a set of 6L6s instead of the normal EL34s . I actually modded it with better Capacitors and precision resistors it's abit better than stock and it sings very well . I will probably keep it even though it's got Chinese output transformers.

I think I read somewhere in amongst the modding chat that they based it on #102, not #183?

This sounds great no doubt! But honestly I think the magic im the genuine Dumbles came from the process of Howard tweaking them for the player he was making them for. Even stock amps, especially hand wired, will vary from amp to amp somewhat just from tolerances and lead dress. And its amazing what even minor tweaks can do when its done with intention and aided by a good ear. I have a little home brew (not D-style) amp that I've been refining over the past couple weeks. Changed the treble cap from 320pF to 270pF and it took it from a good sounding amp that was maybe a bit harsh in the upper mids to one that is smooth with a rich depth and just a touch of glassy sheen. That little change made soooo much difference.

Robben Ford has a great story from when he and Larry Carlton toured Europe together, each with their own Dumble, and when plugging into each other's on stage, found each other's Dumble unimpressive, which he says was due to Dumble tailoring the amps to the buyer as you've said above (but of course they loved their own amp). Amps were very tailored to the player, no two alike. 👍
@mikegrisafi541
@mikegrisafi541 4 месяца назад
@@LivinginLosAngeles-re5yx yea man I was just watching the Robbin Ford Dumble vid on that pedal show the other day talking about that. Crazy! But for sure, theres practically 1000s of variables and permutations going on in an amp. And if you have someone working on a circuit with those kind of ears and experience to how to juggle them all while putting that kind of attention into each and every amp, they almost have to all be magical...Im sure some more than others. Sure you could design once and follow a recipe, but with all those part tolerances you really never fully know how it will come out. Sometimes even minor value changes can have huuuuuge results! Just sucks that it really isn't econically viable for someone to do it the way he did it...that person would have to be fully committed to making it a labor of love.

Killer tones and amp at great value. Suits your playing very well. Any idea what is going on with the VHT brand? There is no website and the few remaining D50 heads seem to be old stock. You think they are still making them? I don't think they are.

Hey John, love your channel and playing. Could you compare this to any of the Dumble style pedals out there. I love the Dumble tone as created by a few of the top players of them and have 4 out 5 Dumble clone pedals that I rotate around on my board. I know you’ve played a lot of the Dumble style pedals too. Is there a pedal that can get the tone of this amp? Edit: oh my gosh John, that tone at 20:45 in is like heaven to me. Not sure what you adjusted or what you flipped at that point but all of a sudden the tone just made me close my eyes and my eyes roll back in my head, lol.

Hey Eric! The top of the "dumble" style pedals to me are the Van Weelden Royal Overdrive, J Rockett Dude, and maybe something like the Ethos Overdrive is pretty good too. It's a bit of a weird situation though where many manufacturers tend to kinda tweak a tubescreamer circuit or a zendrive circuit and label that as dumble? Hopefully some other readers will make some suggestions below too? But yeh for me the VW Royal Overdrive (while expensive these days) is top of the heap that I've tried, and in many ways is probably much easier to dial in than a dumble clone amp based on what I've tried

@@johnnathancordy thanks for the reply John. I appreciate it. I have been thinking about this VHT D- 50 amp because I do love the Dumble tone so much. My current favorite is actually a take on the Zen drive called the warm drive by warm audio. It’s been on my board the longest. You might try it. It’s not too expensive. My second favorite is the mad Professor Simble. I love the dark tone. And I have the Wampler euphoria and the vertex one, I can’t remember the name off the top of my head, and the NUX Steel string singer. The latter are not my favorite.

I don't know what's going on here. Does the amp have an effects loop, or is it ( reverb etc) in a loop somewhere in your load box or your interface? I thought these amps would be great,but not if it lacks a loop. I never liked the sound of reverb or echo in front of the input. As I understood it doesn't usually have a loop in dumble type circuits.
