Ottawa Canada here, it was -28C and a wind chill of -40C this morning. I spent the last 5 hours getting all the equipment started for plowing snow. That's a task here that takes a half day when you have no heated shop. Also, -2C is tropical here. We pave asphalt at -2C here hahaha.
When I did a job in the Volvo dump truck factory, I’ve got to see the test drivers drifting fully loaded trucks on the test track. I was told they were testing the suspension, but it looked more like they were driving rally.
I watched this video with a smile on my face listening to you talk about the cold. Im in manitoba canada where we can get -45°c with windchill so what youve got is a nice day. Keep the videos coming though, i enjoy them all.
I live in west, ny, and I'm still not crazy about the cold, yet, as you and everyone else deal with. I kinda like it as I get used to it. I remember basic training, where some guys had never seen snow. Looking out the barracks one morning after a snow and seeing all the cars in the ditches. Then when I went to Ft. Campbell, KY, I'd be doing donuts in the parking lots. Now I'm jealous seeing you have fun in that truck. Thanks for sharing.
larsmark : Same with us in northern Utah during the winter. Gets pretty cold here and the only people who have the problem Chris had are the ones from out of state. He's a hoot though isn't he...
You are hilarious! You sound like me in these cold mornings. I'm a diesel mechanic so yeah it sucks working on frozen shit when it's balls cold outside. Lol im right down the road in Sumter SC and we still have snow on the ground here too. I love watching your videos though! Y'all crack me up! If you ever need help fixing something I'll be glad to help free of charge!
Came online this afternoon for some uplifting developments from you as I have come to expect and found this grumpy cold fed up chap I don't recognize at all lol Nothing wrong with a bit of cold - kills off all those bad bugs! Still fairly mild here in bonnie Scotland although we get our fair share of wild cold miserable weather in the winter. Chin up and keep going!!! PS A happy and prosperous New Year to you and yours.
At work we have the same problem with the fuel nozzles in the cold weather they stop working, its really frustrating when the truck is out of fuel and you have to haul for the day. Glad the weather is back to where its supposed to be aka above freezing and raining.
Heh heh heh - I was out at our landfill this last spring on March 1st...it was -27f with a -40f windchill. Trying to get our D8T and Cat compactor started after the previous Friday’s crew didn’t plug them in for the weekend. Hauled out the starting unit (400amp@24v and quick-connect heater hoses that plug into mating connectors on the machines engine blocks) and got em going after an hour.
I hear ya Chris this cold weather needs to go! It didn't get above 12 here in Missouri on Tuesday. Kinda shuts me down when the ground is frozen and everything takes longer or is more difficult
Up here when it gets cold we have to heat the shit out of everything. We have magnetic heaters that we put on hydraulic fluid reservoirs, block heaters on everything, some oil pan heaters, and fuel tank heaters on the diesels. The fuel tank heaters allow us to run as cold as -40F. In December it was -30F and everything worked just fine if it was plugged in. We forgot to plug in one of the plows and the fluid looked like pudding. I met a logger that had an input and output for the coolant on his f250. He would hook his skidder to his truck and circulate warm water through the skidder. I honestly don't think this is good for his truck but its something that has been done. Hope your engines are handling it okay!
Hey Chris ! Time to put your big boy pants on( lol ) it's a balmy -18c not counting the wind chill up here in Nova Scotia Canada , perfect for snowmobiling !!
When I was growing up I was thought to share so here you go just being nice haha the weather is above zero for the second day in a week and a half. Keep up the great video's
hey bud if you put an Anderson plug on the front of your truck and one on the pump you will not have to open your bonnet every time you use the fuel pump
When it gets cold like this I usually have to stick a screwdriver in the handle of the automatic shut off won't let the fuel out try that.. I feel your pain I spent almost a whole day to get the lowboy truck started I feel like I need jumper cables coming out of my dam arms lol
LOL just saw this video and been some time since you posted! Past two weeks here negative 47 to negative 55. The first casualty my ford pickup battery and motor froze. The second was the semi window motor (2020 389 Peterbilt 389) window stuck down halfway. Third Airlines froze on semi-trailer breaks set at 60 mph ( I run a train, 13 axels. lots of burnt rubber, like $5,000 worth). Fourth getting home to warm up... furnace in house frozen no heat. Inside of my house 28 degrees. Next wake up and water pipes froze solid and burst. By the end of the first week, I and my dogs slept in my honda hrv in the driveway for heat. I got my semi window fixed after 4 days of running with it down. 10 days later they finally got my furnace going. 12 days after it started my pickup was thawed and I spent last weekend replumbing my entire house! So Chris stop your whining lol. best regards, Glen.
One of the good things about living in Puget Sound is the temp very rarely gets below 20 in the Winter or above 90 in the Summer. We do have to live with constant overcast and dampness, though.
I've been ice fishing on a lake in northern Alberta called Primrose Lake. (Canadian Air Force training area). With the wind chill it was -70' Celcius. But its so dry that you can deal with it in a jean jacket and a Mackinaw... Here on the Pacific coast. -1' Celcius chills you right to the bone with the high humidity!! It literally feels a hundred times colder at -1' Humid than at -70' Dry
Right on. I live in the SOUTH so I do not have to deal with the COLD. 6 inches of powder snow,,, -4 here this morning and have not topped out above 27 since Christmas. To heck with this mess.
Yesterday it was -35 here so I chuckle to myself when I hear you say it's cold in north C. -7 .morale to this is I wish I was in your part of the world
We're in kentucky and feel your pain. Left water dripping in house so we wouldn't have froze pipes, just to have utility company shut off main to fix a leak and said it would be an hour. 8hrs later water come back on street but not in house!!!
It was -28F the other day here and I had to go pick up a crate of tire chains for my loader. When I pulled my fuel hose out of the way for the forklift to load the cate it was cold enough that the hose cracked half way through at the crimped on end and dumped about 2 gallons of fuel on the warehouse floor and that was one of the warmest days we had for two weeks.
This cold has also been treating us Alabamians poorly. Both air compressors froze up, the backhoe doesn't like to start below 40F, it also had a frozen up return hydro line and was just overflowing the reservoir and starved the pump, the brakes were frozen so bad one wheel was spinning on concrete and turning the damn machine in a circle before the other let go. The Isuzu wasn't doing right either. We just normally don't prepare for winters or our stuff isn't conditioned for winter and everything just breaks when this cold comes around.
I love this channel..it's simple and entertaining, but I can't figure one thing out. Do you not like the cold? Lol! Thank you for sharing. Take care. Try to stay warm.
I was trying to geocache in NC this week and froze my a** off. Gave up yesterday morning with 5 degrees and wind to deal with. Got back to Texas last night and it was 59 degrees. You can have it LOL
My father works in the oil clean up business and he always has a rubber piece attached to the frame of his truck to touch the ground and it keeps the static down.
thought for sure you were going to tip it drifting then running back to the pond thought we were going swimming ,,did not think it was going to turn in time ..my old service van getting off the highway on a exit hit black ice ,, it turned at the last second ,,6 inches from hitting concrete .the ramp was all ice ,,that was the worst i have had ,,,
Lol awesome Chris!! I was thinking take the damn handle off 30 seconds later cut to "I took the damn handle off" literally laughed out loud..... is it possible to put remote start in an excavator? I feel like if you run your checks and grease at shut down and it doesn't sit but overnight it won't hi old be worth it.
Well we expect aprox -25c (-13f) wensday / thursday, this morning it is only -12c (10.4f). we also have aprox 1meter (3.28foot) of snowdepth.daily roundtrip to work is 225km (140 miles) really hope the ec210 wont give me trouble. Cheers from Sweden. :-)
So ahh curiosity question... Im from AUS and Ive operated stuff from excavators, loaders, dump trucks, skidsteers, forklifts, trucks, shredders, crushers... etc. Etc. The list really goes on... if i had an opportunity to move to the states... how would i go for work? Is it in abundance? Could i find all kinds of jobs everywhere? I need to know man... i wanna expand my horizons and learn EVERYTHING
I loved your video today and I split a gut laughing. Please remember that Diesel engines do not warm up while idling. Just idle for a short time to get some heat going and then start working a little slow and you have it. Better to work in the cold the mud is frozen. After a week of -40 weather your 11 degrees is a summer heat wave. I enjoy your videos please them coming
Strangefruit diesel is a cold running fuel. I drive school bus with a Diesel engine and I have a blanket in front of the radiator to keep the heat that is generated. In the winter I would like a gas engine as it produces more heat
Hey Letsdig why dont you came to Brazil... at least the worst you can get is 18 Celsius hahaha.... another tip don´t you think to try out go pro with chest holder? i think ti can help you to record and have the both hands free by the way awesome videos..i am a huge fan of you
I hate cold weather, it has been around -5F here in Ithaca New York. I can' t get anything done outdoors. Friends in Sydney Australia have another problem: *It was 117F today* , that's freaking HOT!! The roads there are melting!
