Brother G. Nice vid. Your editing is getting better and better, more and more funny. Love it. And I'm definitely entering the raffle. Why not?!? Can't win if you don't play. . . . Thanks Ben, you're the inspiration for the final decision to buy our Model Y.
If people knew anything about these cars, demand would double overnight. I've had about 100 people in mine and none knew anything about it except negative click-bait headlines they saw.
Almost a 100% of the people that have entered my Model X have never been in or bother reading up on Tesla tech. All they love to talk about are bogus accidents wrongfully attributed to autopilot. I love my car, it’s from 2017
The man speaks the truth… We have a 2022 Model X LR AND a 2023 Model Y LR. Best cars we have ever owned and we’ve owned some very nice cars. The top of the line we’ve bought new?…well I can honestly say that Tesla beats BMW, Mercedes and Lexus new off the lot hands down, we’ve had multiples of each. We just wish we had bought made the switch sooner.
Driving a Tesla is so peaceful, your body doesn't have to work to accelerate or be all stressed while breaking. Literally the car does it all so smoothly and handels all the hard work with such ease. If you have never driven an EV you just don't know ho much better they are.
The point about new features and upgrades in your garage while you sleep is hard to overstate. It's such a foreign concept for anyone who hasn't experienced it, but it really is like having a constantly new car. I replaced a 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum with the Model Y, and I explained to my son that my biggest complaint about the Ford was that it had the older infotainment system which was ridiculously archaic and clunky, and I mentioned that had I just waited another year I would have gotten the more modern system. My son said "But if it had been a Tesla it would have upgraded itself" and he was spot on. It removes the FOMO or feeling like your new car is outdated when the next model year ships. Genius.
Dude, I came across your channel a couple years ago and totally love your content. Your wit, comedic style, knowledge, and delivery are above all! Thank you for being who you are and what you bring to RU-vid. I've been wanting to comment for quite a while, but as you know, life happens! Once again, a huge THANK YOU from your SoCal followers. :-)
For the phone unlocking part, the app is using a Bluetooth low energy signal from the phone to the car to unlock it. Occasionally the phone will turn off the BLE connection to save power depending on your habits (I.e you usually don’t use your car at 3am so it’ll turn off that connection at 3am, but the issue is that this isn’t perfect). Waking up/unlocking the phone reestablishes all these connections and thus, unlocks your car. When this happens to me I literally just awake the phone in my pocket and it usually will unlock the car without having to unlock the phone or go all the way to the app. Just an FYI on what the culprit is.
Agree. When my proximity does not unlock the car, simply pushing the button in my iPhone to wake it typically unlocks the car. Sometimes I’ll use my Watch app instead. Sort of depends on what’s going on. But yeah it’s not perfect. Better than having to carry around a key fob, though!
It took me a rental to understand the love people have for this car. Never understood the hate it received but I definitely see the love. It's ok to be a car enthusiast and have an EV. I'm looking into purchasing one now for my medical courier business
I also owned a Focus ST and currently drive a 22 Civic Si, so I have good baseline for a driver's car. I recently spent a week with my friend's 2017 Model 3 long range. For a first year car it drove amazing. I'm sold. A used Model 3 Long Range is probably in my future if I can talk myself into selling the Si.
Always add full glass coverage or lowest deductible available for comprehensive coverage, which covers glass, on your auto insurance policy. The cost is so minimal that it’s a no brainer. Collision coverage is the far more expensive coverage on auto insurance policies.
I've had my MYLR for a year, and am loving it so far. Agreed, the ride could be smoother/softer, and there could be fewer rattles in the interior, but overall the car is awesome. That extended-leg squat was pretty impressive :-)
I have a 2022. I took delivery of my Model Y right before they were delivering the 2023. I was made in September last year. Abd the ride quality is nice and the road noise is minimal. It's been a nice car to drive and road trip with.
The other thing that goes underappreciated: no getting excited about a car you see on their website and then calling or showing up at the "dealer" just to find out they don't actually have that car or there's a "market adjustment" over MSRP. Also, no haggling with your trade in either. What you see is what you get.
Tesla has simply the best EVs. I have my model 3 lr since april this year and I'm super happy with it. Last week some of my friends tested it and they freaked completely out during driving, because of the interieur and the performance of the car.
Referral links are not permitted in Ohio. Laws in Ohio exclude owners from getting points or benefits from Tesla. WHY??? I would say it has something to do with money
So thanks for the video, and the ride along, I think you did a terrific job of explaining why you bought your Tesla, why you’re wanting to sell it, and why you won’t sell it to buy something else, but that you will trade it for another Tesla, scored a big one with me. So I am wondering where did you get those fancy wheels, because I don’t think they’re stock wheels, am I right about that? You also said, that you had your suspension changed out, and you still don’t like the ride quality? So what’s up with that? So what specifically don’t you like about the ride quality?
I know you like the Supercharger in Springfield, MO but you can knock hours off your trip going north out of OKC and taking the Kansas Turnpike to I-70. The Flint Hills in Kansas are a beautiful and fun drive too. Only hills and curves in the state. I do a trip from San Diego to Mid-Missouri every year and your first PA road trip convinced me to take the plunge since it was basically half of the exact same drive I make.
I think the more upscale interior is the biggest weakness of a Tesla. I own a 2023 Model 3 RWD and think it is great, but I agree with those who say other EVs feel more upscale as far as interior. With that said, Tesla software is much better overall. I have the 18 inch rims with comfort suspension and think it feels great. Not soft like a sponge, but not harsh at all. All the Tesla security and safety features really add up. My Model 3 has the 15.5 volt lithium battery which solves the 12 volt battery drained issue many EV owners have dealt with. That is what I love about Tesla, improvements without waiting for new model year or refreshes. There are Model Ys with hardware 4 already on the road. They look like all the Model Ys basically, but have gotten a major upgrade. Tesla breaks so many legacy builders traditions. Just not having to buy through a dealership is a major plus. I basically picked up my new Tesla in five minutes. When I picked upy 2012 Camry at the local dealership, it took 90 minutes. Partly because they wanted to sell me crap like service plans and interior protection plans. If Tesla keeps upgrading their interiors, it is going to make it that much harder for the competition. Build quality is way better than 2018. All my panel gaps were great. I love that competition has gotten better, but Tesla is not sitting still, so the bar keeps getting raised and this benefits consumers.
I also have a 2023 M3 RWD, and I’m a big fan of the interior. I’ll admit I haven’t sat in any other EVs, but I’ve watched numerous videos and I like the simplicity. When I bought the car, I thought I’d dislike using the screen, but I find I rarely need it. I like not having all the buttons. Side note: I had a read panel that was a bit misaligned. The gap on one side was probably 3/16” larger than on the other side. It was quickly amended at the Tesla store, but nevertheless, it was there.
The worst part about owning an EV is trying to explain to the general public what a non-issue charging is. Then repeating the same explanation when they don’t believe its a viable form of transportation. 🙄
Love my Y performance. I attached a hitch carrier and loaded it up with beach supplies and went on a 2k mile road trip I think I only lost 3-5% range loss from using the carrier And I had more stuff then I would of fit into my dads suburban
I went from a 2013 Focus ST as well (but I kept it for fun) to Model 3 Performance. Occasionally when I drive the ST I wonder if there is something wrong with it, lack of power... but it is still a lot of fun to drive, using all limbs. 🙂
Loved the video & the "sophisticated" cinematography!!! I've been watching from the very beginning & you keep getting better & funnier; Keep up the good work! 👍
Damn spend enough on glass fixes every year maybe equal to gas payment’s crazy Had a cord focus and windshield was always cracked…not sure if angle of glass
Brother, I so love your wit and wisdom. As a Tesla owner since 2013, I can tell you, your channel is the one I love to keep coming back to. Oh, and happy (belated) Father’s Day.
Just went camping and camp mode was awesome! Tried one night inside and will admit that at age 55 it was not super comfortable. The stars were great but I only cleared half and would have benefited from an empty area. The great part for me was in camp mode will allow you to charge something like a battery that I need for my CPAP. Approximate your environment to what is outside and the draw to charge my portable battery was only 20km after a solid eight hours. This was the same for my fit night (25km draw). Very useful
100% agree! rented one for a 4 day vacay in CA! and WOW! the SPEED alone, stability etc! is what is amazing! LITERALLY no issues with acceleration or needing the speed! TESLA to me knows what they are doing! I'm looking forward to the second gen model 3 and Y!
I’ve always enjoyed watching your Tesla videos! Knowing all the features that are automatically added to the car and rarely having to stop at a service center is amazing.
Great video! Some are gonna like Tesla. Some aren’t. Some like rocky road ice cream. Some don’t. That’s why there are 31 flavors. Me, I LOVE my M3. I love the lack of buttons, knobs, dials, levers, sliders, and all that geegaw crap that festoons every goddamned surface in other cars. But, some people love all that. Cool. Get a car that has all those fidget things for them to play with. Not for me, though! Why I love my Tesla: 1) It’s great fun to drive! 2) It’s cheap to operate! 3) OTA updates keep it fresh and current! 4) It’s so EZ to live with! Great content, as always.
So I certainly agree with everything you just said, and I would add this, having (FSD beta) and watching it do its thing is so magical, as it’s just like having a chauffeur take you from point A to point B without you having to do much of anything, except put in a destination, and you can do that by voice command, which is something else that I find magical too. Cheers 🥂
I have a newer version of your car (same color combo). I love the two tone wrap on your car and am thinking about doing mine the same, but with mat black. All the best.
I love my Tesla in less than 6 months I’ve had 2 problems that needed to be sent into service. 1. The screen blacked out multiple times before and during my drive so Tesla res placed the entire thing. 2. The charge port locking pin broke so I couldn’t charge without a warning at home and couldn’t charge at a fast charger at all. Tesla replaced that. I’m not going to keep it past 3-5 years and may lease my next one. It’s a shame because the car is so fun to drive I can’t go back to an ICE but damn they need better reliability :(
I'd say you're just unlucky. Had my MY for 18 months now and the only problem I've ever had was the screen froze once. I rebooted the car and it was all good. Tesla's are every bit as reliable if not more reliable than other car manufacturers.
Question about the harsh ride. A friend has chronic joint pain due to rheumatoid arthritis, but still has to make long drives for medical appointments. These are typically 90+ minute commutes slogging through traffic so I was recommending that perhaps Tesla auto-pilot would make her driving less painful and less fatiguing. Her joints do feel the all of the bumps while driving. Now I am hesitant due to the sporty, sometimes rough ride that people often comment on. Should I consider another vehicle make with basic lane keeping and cruise control as a recommendation? Any ideas or suggestions?
I got my 2020 LR MY in March of 2020, right when the Covid shutdown happened. My VIN is in the 3,000 range, so one of the first Model Y’s ever built. Great car. Wife and I have taken two 3,200 mile road trips, with no problems at all. Purchased FSD beta as well for only $6K. The car gets better with each software update!
I went to Tesla Service to replace a windshield. It isn't easier since they can recalibrate the safety features. I have a 2022 3 Performance and love it. The ride is not as smooth as a model S but I feel a model S is a lot heavier and cumbersome as compared to a Model 3.
so stoked on your videos, while I was waiting for my M Y to arrive I watched a lot of tesla enthusiast channels, yours is the only one I STILL watch. And they keep getting better (and funnier 😂) . I too was hooked after the showroom in Ala Moana gave my wife and me a M Y P for a two hour test drive, we ended up with the 7 seater fit all the kids, took a bit of effort to get it wrapped before shipping to Maui, absolutely fucking love this car.
Being an old fart I am fond of a car with buttons on the dashboard and a screen in front of the driver, and I am a fan of SiriusXM radio in my car. I just drove an Ionic 6 and found it was a fantastic car. However, I live in the upper midwest and the only fast charging for road trips in Northern WI, and the U.P. of MI is Tesla, which may force me into going with a Model Y even if the nearist service center is at least a 200-mile round trip. And streaming Serius over the phone only works when you have cell service and there are a lot of places that do not have good cell service in the north woods.
Hi, loved the update. You’ve been our go to since we put our order in for our Y (got the referral miles through you, just before they pulled the plug). For last 6 months or so it “overcharges by 3-5 Kwh” from the setting. We travel from Florida to New England with “no” charging issues (love the V3’s) Only issue we have is with phantom braking (can’t figure out what the trigger is that causes it).
"overcharging" happens to me sometimes as well. I set it for 80% and wake up and it's at 82% or whatever. There are a few factors involved here. One or all may apply to your case. First, measuring battery capacity isn't exact. Temperature and a number of other factors can affect the reading, so if it warms up after you charge that can affect the displayed percentage by 1-2%. If you've charged it optimally and kept the battery in that 50-80% sweet spot for a long time, the BMS hasn't had a chance to "re-learn" the real capacity of the battery (see the next paragraph). Second, battery measurements don't stay in calibration perfectly. Charging it up to 100% and then driving it down to below 20% on your next road trip can help calibrate that if the imperfection in measurement bothers you (note: it doesn't bother the car at all). Third, the BMS may occasionally be "balancing" the pack when it's done charging. This involves checking the voltages across the pack and charging/discharging individual cells so they are in better balance. This process involves putting energy into cells, so it can cause you to overshoot your target charge level. I find that the battery percentage is spot on with my target charge level for about a month to 6 weeks after a long road trip where I've started out at 100% and discharged it to below 20% once or twice along the way, then it starts to drift a bit (but the drift never really exceeds more than a couple of percent so whatever, I'm not going to stress out the battery only to recalibrate a user display - it'll get sorted on the next road trip).
Thanks for all your information and review on the Tesla Model Y. I am looking to get an EV in 2024 and the Model Y long Range is one that is on my list. I don't know when a Model 2 Tesla may come out for sale. One Question I have is to anybody - Does the basic Auto Pilot in the Tesla also work on normal 2 lane highways and not just the Freeways??? I assume it is similar to using a Cruise Control in an ICE vehicle. Take care.
You can use auto pilot anywhere. It's basically just adaptive cruise control. It accelerates / decelerates and keeps you in your lane. That's it. I only use it on the freeway myself, I wouldn't put my trust into the system on a 2 lane highway or city streets.
I found your channel when you first posted that test drive video in Hawaii. Same thing happened to you that happened to me.. I test drove a Model 3 performance and then getting into pretty much any other car was just plain old disappointing compared to the Tesla. It's not even close and when you throw in all the cost/time savings with charging vs gas ... it's game over.
I just turned in my 2020 Model X at the lease end and bought outright a 2023 Model Y Perf. I'm SO much happier with the MY than the MX. It feels like it's just put together better, there are SO many more accessories available and I don't have the stupid doors or air suspension to worry about (I had my MXP in service twice for failed air compressor, resulting it suspension damage). So now my gf and I have MYP's and could not be happier.
Not that it matters but 3 years ago I was a viewer who watched all of your videos about your st and m2 literally every single one. Once the Tesla came the content shifted and I was gone. Not a fan at all but cheers to you for growing your channel.
Those kWh prices hurt man. Here in Europe it's usually over €0.50/kWh or $0.55/kWh. I've seen it over €0.90. Cheapest I get fast charging is around €0.30 and that's an extremely good deal at specific chargers with a specific card (pay per minute).
Nice video. Please elaborate on the phantom braking. I'm very likely going to be purchasing a model Y in the next 8 months. I'm 95% sold on it, but the one thing that makes me nervous is the phantom braking. Does it only happen if you're using auto pilot?
@@Notme-tq4xs But 40k or more like 43-45k after fees, taxes, and what not is still a really expensive purchase. Especially when not wanting to take a loan.
I just watched this entire video while on the toilet at the olive garden. I opened the door still laughing only to see there was a long line waiting outside. I told them all about your channel.
As someone who wrenches on cars as a hobby going electric is something that I won't do for a long time. I would say I don't like cars with too much technology. It becomes more of a distraction issue than anything else. AIl I need is a backup camera, 360 views, android auto, lane change warning, and collision warning. Also, I hate cars that rely on a touchscreen so much that I prefer my physical buttons. If anything happens to that touchscreen good luck controlling the car.
The Phantom Braking (which, incidentally, could be the name of one of the movies in the Star Wars saga) is happening to me too, but I really don't drive that much on the highway, and when I do, I minimize the Autopilot use. Especially when there is speed and a lot of cars involved, I'm more comfortable running manually, and only use Autopilot for fun when there is no real danger of something sudden happening.
So, just as a point of information, it is quite rare to have the car suddenly brake on highways, as this mostly happens when you’re driving in towns, and cities, at least that’s been my experience. So I have a 2018, dual motor, all wheel drive, long range battery pack, rated at the time of 316 miles, and I have experienced very little degradation, over 4 years of ownership, and I have (FSD beta), and FSD beta, has come along ways, and I don’t wanna mislead anyone, as it’s still has hiccups, but it is damn good, and it’s only going to get better, and better. So I wouldn’t worry too much about the phantom braking, but it is something you need to pay attention to, because you’re still responsible while behind the wheel, no matter where you’re driving, because there are still bugs that needs to get worked out, but I am fully confident that Tesla will be the first to achieve a fully capable self driving, autonomous vehicle before any of those other guys do. My only hope is that more people get to experience it, and that I am around to see it, as it’s going to be a wonderful day to see the CyberTruck, the semi truck. and all the other Tesla cars driving around with no one at the wheel, and future Tesla vehicles will come without a steering wheel or pedals. You’ll just take out your phone, summon your car to pick you up or send your car to pick up, a family member, a friend, or a complete stranger, as you’d be operating your vehicle through an app on your phone, in a ride sharing situation, which is something Tesla has been talking about for a while now, and it may take them longer than one may expect or want, but eventually we’re gonna get there, and I am confident of that. Cheers 🥂
The seems like such a ridiculous statement given the autopilot is one of the benefits of the car. I dunno, this seems a lot more dangerous than owners are making it out to be. Maybe cognitive dissonance?
@@robdc4829 Touché! But only if you’re confused and from your statement, I think that’s the case here. So don’t confuse auto pilot, which is a trade name for an (ADAS) advanced driver, assistance system, something most auto manufacturers have some variance of these different features that make up the system. What we’re talking about here is not auto pilot, which by the way, is standard on all Tesla vehicles, but what we’re talking about here is something beyond assistance. So FSD (full self driving), is a much more sophisticated system which incorporates auto pilot and all the other features associated with it, but in addition to that, (FSD beta) actually drives the car just like you and I do. So I understand those who do not own a Tesla, and have not actually delve into the nuances of Tesla’s cars being confused about this system, but not to those of us who are currently driving with (FSD beta), and so just because someone happens to be driving a Tesla, does not mean that they have (FSD beta) in their cars, as it’s still quite an expensive feature. So what I recommend you doing is to actually read the literature, and start to get an understanding of what this particular software is capable of doing, and where Tesla is driving this technology to, and why they’re doing it, because it’s not just about a convenience or some type of geewhiz hey look at what I got technology, no it’s about much more than that, it’s about saving lives, by driving down those horrible statistics we hear about every year, as people are lost to what are clearly preventable traffic mishaps. Cheers 🥂
I recently took delivery of a Chinese built model Y that now comes with 'comfort' suspension (I live in Australia) I'm guessing the newer US built ones should also be coming with softer suspension now..
@@cavezen I've read this. I setup an appointment to test drive one. I am very happy with my Ford Mach-e but my wife's 2017 Golf Alltrak is getting long in the tooth and she's a perfect candidate to get an EV.
Simply amazing... I had JUST started to look for your sunshade online when you put the information on the screen that I could find it in the video description. Well done.
I rent a model 3 for work. I drive from KC to Wichita and it's perfect. The autopilot makes me hate getting back into my own car. It makes driving like he said less stressful. Something I found out is if you're in autopilot and the car sees an emergency light it warns you and slows down. The ghost breaking is stupid but I rest my foot on the gas and it's a quick fix. I will be purchasing a Tesla for my daily.
In Victoria Australia, our state government (not voted by me) introduced 2 years ago, an EV road tax, 2.5 cents per kilometer, this has now risen to 2.8 cents per kilometer. EV sales here have dropped like a stone as people here know the tax will just keep rising. I am a Tesla model S owner and my car stays in the garage on trickle charge most of the time.
Have you noticed phantom braking getting any better with software updates? I drive about 100% around town so I rarely use autopilot but last time I took a road trip it was horrible. Multiple events with no other vehicles or anything else around. I was like WTF, if they can't get this right I don't have a lot of hope for FSD anytime soon.
Mine has got significantly better. Recent 1750 mile road trip 80% or more using auto pilot had 1 phantom break issue and it was not full on. Our car is 17 month old.
Haven’t experienced phantom braking in months with FSD beta (currently using v11.4.4) however I still encounter unnecessary speed limit changes, most notably on a 70mph downhill grade that has posted 45mph limit signs for trucks, the car will slow a few mph while I scroll the speed back to 70mph. It was a little disconcerting the first couple of times until I figured out what was happening. Couldn’t voice report it because manually changing the speed limit didn’t disengage FSD, so now when it happens I disengage FSD and report it when asked why I disengaged. I also experienced speed limit changes in some sections of road where the posted limit differs from mapped (displayed by the car). This is not phantom braking but actually unexpected slowing, but if you’re aware of these conditions they are easily corrected, however it is still unacceptable for FSD and is an issue that needs to be addressed before it is released out of beta. Otherwise, there has been noticeable improvement with every update. I use FSD beta over 90% of the time and love it.
Hey QQ. Does this roof shade stop heat from top? How cooler your car remains because of this? I am debating between getting ceramic tint on roof vs this shade and can't decide? Thanks in adv
Most reputable places with experience tinting Teslas will not the tint the roof of a Tesla because it can lead to heat build up and cracking. The sunshade is the best option.
One of my co-worker ask me the stupidest question about EV’s I’ve ever heard. He asked me what happen to the car if he doesn’t want to charge it but it won’t make it to his destination? I told him same thing happens to your gas car when you don’t want to fill it up but it won’t make it to your destination. Another tell me to becareful of puddle of water in the road because if I drive over it it would immobilize my EV. I told him I drive my car in a raining day and it still works and I don’t see any EV’s stuck on the road. They really think car makers haven’t thought of that and test it out before selling it?
Came for the FoST content stayed for the Tesla videos. Wound up buying a M3P. What a strange world we live in. I just looked at my electricity over the past 30 days in the app, I’ve spent $37 this month charging at home. ❤😅
Love my M3. All I wanted in a car and More. As for preconditioning the battery, I was driving through GA to a supercharger by the MINUTE not by kWh and surprisingly my battery didn’t precondition! TWICE!! Does Tesla want me to spend more time charging or was that a glitch?
I could send you a plushy cushion for your hurting bum. Mine is well padded and i like my "harsh" ride. That means the weels are on the ground and i am still alive.
been binging on your videos. Love the content and pulled the trigger on a Model Y yesterday using your referral code for 3 months of FSD before those codes go away. Keep the awesome content flowing!
