That's exactly what I have been thinking. How can anyone be mad there is the opportunity to buy into BMW performance with Toyotas reliability attached? Sounds like a match made in heaven to me. No reason to listen to keyboard cowboys that would never be in the market for one anyways.

Because it's not a Toyota at all. It's a BMW Z4 with a Toyota skin on it. The powertrain, suspension, electronics, Even the navigation is Idrive. It dose not have Toyota "Reliability" history, or anything besides the badge that says Toyota. And that is why people are mad. Toyota is the biggest car maker in the world. If they really wanted to, they could have made their own Supra, with there own chassis, and their own twin turbo 3.5 V6 like the one in the LS.... Like they did with the originals. But they did not. They put a new body on a Z4, while BMW themselves sell the same car in the Z4 skin, that comes with more power from the factory with it's stock tune. It's nothing more than a objectively better looking Z4. That's not a bad thing in the grand sceme of things, but it's not a Toyota.

My comment was directed at the new Supra because I’m in love with it and appreciate all that it is...minus the lack of a manual option, which takes me out of the market for one. I won’t settle for an automatic. That’s just my opinion and preference.

I am 42...I would have given my right arm to own this car back in the 90s. Thats why I own the new one now. To your point...the "kids" that talk smack about this car have zero context or history to the brand (other than a movie they have seen). We all agree that a "pure" Toyota Supra would be amazing but to me I feel like this car carries the spirit of the Supra brand just fine. The power gains with mods are insane. Thanks for the video.

I’m 45 and I remember the legend of the OG Supra from the 90s. Now, I run the BMW 340i with the same B58 engine and I love it. So easy to tune and so much potential. I can’t to see what the platform will bring us over the next few years.

I love this topic. I was a K series honda guy. Then went to a M3. When toyota announced the partnership I knew the new Supra would be an amazing machine. Bmw driving experience with build quality and attention to detail from Toyota. Will go down in history as one of the best sports cars made

This man is speaking straight facts. I get thumbs up driving down the road in my Supra all the time. These types of partnerships happen often. The 2jz engine is old and outdated and was the reason the mk4 was discontinued. The b58 is proving to be an amazing platform. It took months to get to 1k hp reliably. It's pumping out 500-700 hp like it's nothing. And again most importantly, reliably. It took the 2jz years to get there. I get the best of both worlds, BMW performance and Toyota reliability. Remember that the iconic GT350 and the Zl1 1Le use the same tremec Trans. So what's the problem? This platform will be iconic long term. 💯

You have changed my mind about this car. It shouldn’t be this inexpensive. I think it has too much front overhang but you can’t argue with the curb appeal for any car enthusiast and how robust the drivetrain appears to be. To put it in perspective - it costs more than half of the cost of this whole car just to take a Gt3rs from 420 to 460 whp.

Commented before the end of the video lol, but you are spot on about people hating this car. They probably never driven a supra back 10 to 15 years ago. Unless you spent 100k for a tuner car back then, it was difficult to put together anything with 500 hp that was barely driveable.

First off I'm a 45 year old man. I have owned brand new BMWs and Porsches from 1999 till 2019. You are 100% correct in the fact that BMWs are garbage in regards to reliability. But you state that this new Supra is reliable it's one or two years old you have no idea if it's reliable it's still under warranty after owning three or four brand-new BMWs I have noticed BMW builds things exactly to break after their warranty and make sure that you are coming back three to five years later to buy a new car. That's because BMWs are made for rich people. That were planning on buying a new car anyway in 3 to 5 years. The people that hate on BMW should not buy a BMW they're not made for them. You are buying a car above your paygrade. Toyota on the other hand is a regular man's car company along with Honda build some of the most reliable cars in the world. So when people complain about this Supra you have to understand where they're coming from. Here's a car that they're known for reliability and they put BMW parts in it which are known to die after three to five years. I guess only time will tell in 4 years if that BMW parts car is reliable. In short it's a beautiful car right now one or two years old we'll see if it's still a beautiful car 4 to 5 years from now

Too many people are getting their idea of a 'Supra' (and most cars you think of when you say 'JDM') From the likes of; 1000hp MK4s, Anime, films etc. From pop culture. They're seeing the end results of lots of time and money spent into making the car. They're not seeing the downsides to owning a 20+ year old car. They're not seeing the amount of time spent off road on ramps. Doesn't apply to old JDM cars - old muscle cars from the 60/70s are god awful too. Personally, I bought a GR Yaris recently. All I hear about is what I could of got for the £34k - from people that have never had to own or maintain any of the cars they're referring too. The Yaris is more reliable and cheaper to run than my daily driver diesel!

I bought a 2020 Z4 M40i because I love convertibles.I have had it for a year and I am still in love with it.Before this I had a 2005 M3 convertible then I traded in for a Lexus IS 350 F sport , then for an RCF , I missed having a convertible I drove the new Z and it blew me away, plus the infotainment is sick.The whole car is amazing and I haven’t installed a tune yet.This guy is totally right.I bought a BMW also because I figured if Toyota is using it for the Supra it has to be good.Toyota wouldn’t messed up with their reliability ratings.

In Sept I made the move from Toyota 86 (UEL header, full exhaust, tune) to an SS 1LE Camaro. I was originally looking at the M240i, which led to me the M2, which somehow led me to the Camaro lol. When these new Supras were revealed I was super unhappy with how it looks, but it's really starting to grow on me. Not sure if i'll never own one, but i'd definitely like to after seeing your content hahah keep up the good work man!

Since when is it a bad thing to own a BMW? At least it's not a Hyundai... The Supra is the best BMW you can buy now. Lightest, great fuel economy, best looking and it has a longer powertrain warranty, and LSD without being an M car. If Toyota would have built the car from the ground up it would have cost more GTR money. Everyone would have called it overpriced, it wouldn't sell, and would be another failure for Toyota in the sports car segment. The LFA probably put the last nail in the coffin for an all Toyota supra. Its really hard to sell a 100k+ car and make money for a brand like Toyota. That is why the GTR is still basically the exact same car after 13 years. It takes so long to get their R&D money back they cannot afford to make a new version. So they slowly up the power, change the plastic bumpers, offer special edition after special edition after special edition to justify the price.

I was the one who hated it at first. I was guilty of expecting it to look more like the MK4. I could care less about the BMW partnership as I’ve owned a few 135i N54 cars and they were amazing. However, once I quit comparing the two, I fell in love and bought an A91. Lol. It escalated quickly.

Positivity is great but negative opinions can be valid. I don’t see how this car is slept on in any way - looks great and seems to drive great. The only shade comes from Toyota short cutting with BMW and not having a manual. The B58 was well respected before this car even came out.

Yes! Jon you are so right! Positive vibes! I have 2015 328i non m sport but I started modding it front splitter and everything basically at st2 the best and most fun car I ever driven. And I came from a 02 camry. Its sad that the community talk down about four cylinders I just love my car. I did fall into it "oh you should of got this" like you said, and started to feel bad why I didn't get the n55 or 58 but at the end of the day thats what I could afford back in 2015. Thank you for this video made me even more appreciative of my car🙏. Much love brother. Just know that its life and there's always a taller mountain! So in the further I'm saving for a f80s platform 🙂👍

Honestly, and this is coming from a guy who is a Powertrain engineer at Toyota NA and sees them every day. They are great, and a great car especially for the price. That being said, I am not a fan of BMW sports cars lately. I love the old ones. It's still solid and I love the straight 6. I would rather have a Boxster or Cayman because I still think it's just a little bit better overall. As a side note, I see probably half a dozen of these daily in the lot, they look pretty good, but I park my 997 Turbo away from everyone...

100%love Supra. But hope to see few changes for the following edition before purchasing: 1. Interior color choice 2. Other brand audio sound system 3. Little bit interior design changes 4. Waiting to see the reliability report/complaints after 3 years

You ever see reviews of a movie and it bombed, and you went to see it and it was good to YOU. I never and I mean never let an opinion steer my thought process. We all know hate is love and jealousy at the same time. I get mad love and hate and I love it. The Supra is the shiznit It gives my R8 a run for its money.

Funny you mention the G80 M3. I'm bouncing around between the Supra or the G80 M3. I honestly think it's going to come down to the fact that the Supra is just so much cheaper for what you get. If I had unlimited money, sure the M3 would be ideal, but alas I don't.

The only thing that turned me off from the new Supra and ultimately got me into the driver seat of my c6 z06, was the fact there is no option for a manual transmission. Now that Nissan is going to be producing the 400Z, I’ll be going that route....because manual. Many of us love rowing gears. #savethemanuals

The only slight non-important peeve i have with the Supra is the tad dilution of the allure with a 2.0 model looking identical to the 3L. On the street there identical and it really puts a damper on having two engine types one being lighter-performance minded ( There are reports of the 2.0 handling better due to weight ). Every Supra i see coincidently is the 2.0L and its kinda frustrating just from just being a huge Supra fan. When you bought a prior Supra there was no question what it was now its questioned. I love the Supra, i just wish they did not make a 2.0L version. B58 is amazing i have no issue with anything else other than the 2.0 version, however from a sales perspective of course understand it.

1. Replace steering wheel (level:easy) 2. Replace rear brake caliper with a 2 piston (level: easy) 3. Replace horn with an extremely loud train horn (level: idk but it’s going to be insane) 😁

This has been my experience with the car too. Going out to meets and events people love the car. Heck I've never had something I almost dread going to the gas station for because of how much attention it gets. Really the only negative interactions I have about it is online, just like you said, and it's gotten so... Petty. I did have one guy call it a BMW in person though, but I reminded him pretty quick that his GTO is actually a Holden. It was funny because he didn't even know what Holden was haha Seriously though, colabs are good and globalization is a thing, people really do hate to hate without actually thinking about common this is.

How much did the wider tires help? I run a custom tune with ethanol and get zero traction. Was curious if a wider street tire helps or if something like an R888R is necessary.
