Financial abuse goes unnoticed or excused far too often. I hate that that woman said she "brought it upon herself for being a people pleaser." First off, nobody deserves abuse, period. Plus, no one is BORN a people pleaser. They are taught/learn that behavior. Blaming yourself for it is wrong and so sad. My parents were, and in my late 30s still are, financially and emotionally manipulative and abusive. People understand and are familiar with physical abuse, and are starting to understand emotional and psychological abuse, but financial abuse hides in there too. Speaking from experience, being scolded or made to feel bad for your expenses as a friggin child, one your parents chose to have and keep, is insane. Make your sick child feel awful for their medical bills? Ones they could afford, no less, is awful. Especially when it's still brought up 20-25 yrs later. No one should be forced to beg and plead for basic life needs. I hated everything having strings attached with a side of guilt. Holding someone's basic needs over their head while they beg and explain the absolute necessity of them, apologizing for costing money, for being unwell, and friggin existing is crazy. Especially when the person is unable to work to cover the costs themselves. Anytime they see me they remind me how much of a burden I was, and still am. My bff still hates to have anyone spend money on her as her mother used it as a leash. She had to fight for necessities as they were dangled over her head, just out of reach. No parent or partner should use this type of abuse on someone they claim to love. You don't punish someone for having needs! That's horrible! People don't blame pets for needing shelter, food, and medical care, but somehow it's fine to do it to a human?! What the heck.

OP shouldn't have bottled of resentment and talked things through, but honestly, I think the relationship was doomed either way. You could make the argument that OP wouldn't have to contribute to anything regarding the baby, but that'll build resentment, too. Potentially months to maybe even years of not financially or emotionally helping with your partner's kid would've led to a bigger blowup.

OP in the last story absolutely pisses me off and I hope the consensus were that she's the A-hole. She's completely valid to feel some sort of way that her boyfriend is now focusing on his daughter that'll be born soon and the ex, but the way OP went about it is AWFUL.
