There was something far beyond the language barrier that gave me an uneasy feeling about this tow, and I couldn’t figure out what it was. But in the end we got the truck dropped off with no damages, and got paid without issue.

Something I noticed in the first bit of the video that I think Casey does really well is that when he says something and the driver doesn't seem to understand, instead of just repeating the same thing but louder, he tries rephrasing using different words. I've always found this to be very helpful (both as someone who was speaking English to folks who didn't speak much English themselves, and as someone traveling in places where I didn't speak much of the local language but understood some of the words) since it makes it more likely that one of the words used will be in the vocabulary of the person listening.
@Qwkynuf
@Qwkynuf 10 месяцев назад
This is also great advice when dealing with people who are hearing impaired. Often, changing the word choice, or even changing the word order, will "click" something in my brain and let me understand what is being said.

Should be law that commercial truck drivers should speak English in the US. If someone is visiting, that's one thing. But if you have a US driver's license, driving a US registered vehicle, driving routes in the US, you should speak English.
@TravelerJerryLee
@TravelerJerryLee 10 месяцев назад
Should speak English but....companies are having a very tough time hiring enough drivers and the population of CDL drivers is aging greatly and not enough younger people want to enter the industry. This problem will correct itself over time as more Tesla self driving trucks are made and approved for road service. Already companies have gone to automatic transmissions to reduce driver training and repair costs so Tesla is on the right track with computer controlled trucks lowering operational and maintenance costs.

I wonder how many are on some kind of work permit type of setup - and thus aren't trying to apply for citizenship, or are waiting for years before they apply. My MIL was born in Ireland and spoke Gaelic as her primary language until she came to the US and applied for citizenship. In order to qualify, she had to be able to speak, read and comprehend English -something that sounds like it's no longer a requirement.
@TravelerJerryLee
@TravelerJerryLee 10 месяцев назад
@@duanebuck193 Work permits do not have a english requirement so companies are recruiting to countries that have a much lower income to attract workers and then train them for the jobs needed. Same thing is happening in UAE where they bring in people from 3rd world countries, pay them cheaply to work construction and cleaning.

Could've been a brake can with a bad diaphragm , could be the interlock is leaking pressurizing the diff or a diff has a chipped gear ... Those axles can take a pounding and still function to get back to the yard , I've rebuilt and replaced enough of them , he may have ran it till it wouldn't run no more lol It would be nice to find out what the issue was but you're the tow guy , you just rescue the junk ....

Happy Thanksgiving, I could not imagine someone who drives for a living and not know a thing about how their truck operates and how to fix small issues. IMO it was a good call to go back in his truck to make sure he didn't sabotage anything, weather by accident or otherwise. Personally I don't think this was the actual driver of that truck. One reason was he was wearing sandals & two, he didn't know much about this truck. Maybe they just enlisted you to help steal this truck.

This is two fold, 1. Repair costs are less for automatic transmissions and that includes the cost of putting in multiple standard transmission clutch. 2. Automatic transmissions are providing better fuel mileage and in trucking that's the major cost center. 3. Just to add another reason. In total a lot fewer repairs needed.
@JR-lb4ng
@JR-lb4ng 10 месяцев назад
Automatic trucks have been around 20+ years, it has nothing to do with training a driver and more about fuel efficiency and maintenance.

I suspect the only issue was the transmission/air issue and the driver found the oil on the diffs fill plugs confusing that with said "transmission" issue. As low air isn't exactly going to be an easy visual check. I also wouldn't be surprised its just an air leak and he drove well into a low air condition until the park brakes kicked out throwing the transmission code and eventually got himself to that parking lot after a few tries.

Hi Mr. LaDelle! I’m a 18 year old kid from Utah I just wanted to say that I love watching your videos on RU-vid. I’m really curious about the on the spot chain system that you have on your trucks I was wondering if there was a way that you could possibly do a video on that? That would go into more depth about them. Thank you so much for creating such great quality videos you do an amazing job on them.

I retired from a railroad that operated in a steel mill. We had a low bridge that had signs and alarms if the tractor trailers were too tall. The drivers who were too tall and hit the bridge, didn’t know how tall their rig was, let alone speak English. The bridge was raised right before I left.

I used to be in warehousing- I had a trucker and his wife in that accused me of being racist. The guy could not back his truck up to my dock to get loaded. Also - he couldn't speak or evidently understand English. Was I getting upset- yes- after 45 minutes of tying my dock up and having 3 other trucks I had to load - did I utter racist language-no. My plant manager came back after I had finally got the guy loaded and said they got a phone call and said the driver accused me of racist remarks - I told the plant manager -look neither one of the people could speak or understand English so how could they even know what I was saying - plus - I did not anything bad! He believed me!
