they didnt put their energy moves in the wrong places, thats just the concept of dancing in groups. the center person is always the one 'standing out' and the dancers around her has to support that. if everyone were to dance with full-on energy and power most of the time, that would make the dance even more boring because there wouldnt be any speed or rhythm variation.

I respect your critic but not to forget they are still trainees And in my opinion I think they already have this idol aura Bc those facial expressions and dance moves are FIRE They may be not the best but it's not even the beginning and they already nailed it if you watch the original dance and compare it to this you'll definitely would be more hyped for this The slow moves to the hyping beat are on purpose so it'll show a new side of kpop dance since I'm a dancer for 8 years I'm experienced with that trainee shit so I think it's a very big step what they are doing with a trainee potential

A shorter performance, as you said, misses the point. This is a survival show. There needs to be time for all the girls to be able to show what they can do. Their singing, dancing, stage presents, and also, do they crack, break down, get tired, and do they fight through. A couple of minutes isn't going to do that.

I think they did great. It's actually harder to move "slowly" (for a lack of a better word) on an energetic beat than than moving with the music and hitting every beat. Because it's a natural I guess instinct for us to dance to the beat instead of doing the opposite which is propably the reason u didn't really like it. Musicality requires more thought process specially when done in groups.

I get your critic of the performance but it seems to me that your issues are more to do with the choreography, which the girls have NO CONTROL over. The choreography and the styling of the performance is already pre-determined.

Tbh I think they did a FANTASTIC job at a trainee level with such a short time practicing. I think ur critic is really on the choreography which they have NO CONTROL over, maybe they can change a few little details but the big structure was pre-determined. Also, I don’t see a problem with the other girls other than the center moving kinda slow during the last part, I think it’s great that they do that bc then ppl can see Xin Liu better. If a bunch of ppl dance so fast together that’s just so chaotic with no importance. At these moments the dancers can still engage the audience with their expressions and I think the girls did AMAZING. Lastly, with u saying the the middle part in between the chorus is boring, I don’t see it. If the entire choreography is hyped and fast-moving then wat’s the whole point of the chorus? That is the HIGHLIGHT of the choreography and is supposed to be the major thing that make ppl scream, which the girls did a GREAT job. Adding so much diff things in the middle is just unnecessary and especially hard for them to make the choreography in such a SHORT TIME.

This is a performance for an idol competition NOT a dance competition. Objective of the performance is to give the trainees enough screen time so that they can be seen. Seriously at least try to first understand what you are seeing before making rubbish comments!!!!*

If you would watch the whole episode when they're picking songs to perform, there's already a choreography. They just followed the dance on the video.

I'm going to write a paragraph. I think it was the best Youth With You group that performed. The composition of the group is diverse and each member has their own charm. I mean in the sense that no member is ignored. Then, the center (Kiki Xu) really showed generosity in giving her own center parts to the others who didn’t have much parts. The group has well distributed, they appropriate the song well. About their dance, I think that they harmonize very well with each other, they each have their own styles but make only one whole.

If you think 4 min of dance is too long, why should I watch you talk for 9 min? Your reaction is not half as interesting as the dance, so who are you to judge?

8:10 The girls around are supposed to support the center that's why they aren't doing very explosive things. If they were all so explosive like the music what is the point of being a group. Why wouldn't they be dancing solos instead?

The center not eye catching for me. My eyes only focus in Xin Liu. I don't know why. She is amazing👍😊

the moves were pre-choreograph and they just needed to learn it all in almost 3 days only.. 7:16 thats popping and of all the girls only xin liu can do it professionaly it requires muscle control and strength that's why even guys sometimes had a hard time learning the poppin style of dance.. 😊

Not all songs require every member to do 10000 moves. Some songs are meant for the center at the moment to be the focus and the others just for support and you don’t always need to dance at the same pace as the music. There’s an art to being able to go with and against the music. I don’t think your critiques were bad but in this situation they don’t really apply as much at least imo because I thought the goal of the choreo and vibe was different from what you explained but I could be wrong.

Personally I really love this performance the best. Play comes in second for me.

They did all very well, cause this is a dance from a boy-group, so it is hard fo girls to di it more "powerfully". In my opinion they did all very great. And also the didnt had much time to prepare the dance,so it was a realy great for such a short time. I think it would be perfect if they had something like 2-3 months, but the only had a few weeks.

Also I don’t think you know what you’re commenting about. They’re trainees not idols. Trainees mean that they do not need to have the standard of idols and you should keep that in mind when you watch the show. They’re already better than a lot of idols.

I don’t really get idol culture and how harsh/demanding it is. I just like enjoying cpop and talented singers/dancers where possible, and to a casual fan like me I think these girls did amazing!! All the stuff they are doing already looks insane and they’ve clearly practiced a lot, and while critiques are more than valid, I can’t see the demand for moves that are even _more_ powerful. It just feels like the standard already got set so high and they did well, and any more is kind of asking a lot, especially when taking the human body into account. But that’s just me, as someone who doesn’t do dance. Maybe actual dancers or kpop artists would disagree, but from what I’ve seen most fans enjoyed the performance a lot and were more than satisfied.

the girl in the middle is called xin liu i think... i also think that she is the most unique one in youth with you

there is this main center (that what the girls competing for) and the different "part centers". All in all, the centers' main job is to keep the audiences' focus. She will be is the one "controlling the camera", until she pass the control to the "part centers" (rapper when rapping, vocal singing or dance lead to dance) all eyes will be on the center. As for this show when "the eve" was performed, many trainees still could not do the "passing center role" part smoothly , the one who done this though at that early stage of the show is Kiki (i cant remember noticing any other trainees doing this when they perform in other groups), she doesnt snatch the focus away when she is not the center (of course this also has to depend on her teammates' dominance aura, whether they can catch the focus of the audiences). One good example is the passing at 7:12 to 7:30 when Kiki passes her centre position to Xin, thats one peak, if kiki still grabbing some attention at the part then the audience are going to miss the peak of the song. One of the bad example is Esther Yu in the "how can i look so good" performance. maybe its me hahaha, she just too cute and too fiting for the song. Snow Kong is the center for that performance but i could tell there was a few "focus war" in that performance when i couldnt stay focus at the right person at the right time, i saw another reaction video, they showed snowkong's dance performance to introduce her to those who are new to the show, and they showed this performance, and esther yu dancing beside her is VERY NOTICEABLE. Its a example of stealing center, a bad thing, but nothing to worry because this show's main content is the "growth", not really about being 100% senpai level good

Well, Liu yuxin is super experienced because she has participated many different shows in the past. I am not surprise at all even I am not anyone’s fan, I still believe she deserves ‘C’ position. Only thing I am surprised why a western guy watches a Chinese girl group show, special taste ;)

I'm feeling bored around the same time that you did in the vid but my own very personal reason is because Xin Liu doesn't have a part during that period and tho all girls did well I enjoy her performance more than the others.

Agreed on the choreography. The part where they want Xin Liu to stand out makes the scene as a whole actually weaker because you can still see other girls but they are not really doing anything while they stand so close to Xin, and the lighting does not make Xin's move look clear. Two girls standing behind her weakens Xin's image too. Better just let herself do the popping part, so that section looks stronger and adds something unique to the whole performance.

Agree with Duke, and that what Lisa always ask from the trainees when she coach them "Can you do more more ..... more!!!" Even in tis group what Lisa taught them about to lean more back when swipe the hand and do more cool when wipe the hair. They still didnt do it right by what Lisa expected. But over all it was a good performance anyway but i kind of think that the song itself and the camera work did help a lot to make it look better.

I really got what you mean. But the point is they can make it much better. It’s true that the song itself and choreography is already ‘lazy-slow mo style’ It can still be really cool if they made it really synchronized and strong like what EXO does (energy and strength has to be equally distributed) which is super hard, no doubt. Compared to Play that is more hyped with the music choice (+ talented af team) already - this one really becomes inferior in a sudden.

When I saw this performance I was Oh! This was fire... but when I saw the PLAY group.... Ghorl I just can't!!! That just blow us all, the energy they put are on point not in the wrong timing, they are in sync despite having the fastest choreography in all of them and their expressions serves a variety, it's natural and is not forced ( to be cool), I agree with you duke... they are not cool enough for the steps, I even think that their body rolls are kinda stiff unlike what Lisa said to them. Their power is just not maintained throughout the whole performance... there's no "WOW" factor, that you never expected. And that, is an amazing element for a dance performance considering that they showcase their dancing ability here it should be give it your all, Lisa told them to be cool but some of them are just OOOFFF ghorl it's not cool at all, it's awkward. Even in the last posing, they are not perfectly synchronized, LMAO.🤣🤣

the "half-assed" choreo was really meant to be that, to base it on exo's choreo. Exo is a vocal group and wouldn't compromise singing properly just to have a hard choreo

i really love the performance but yes some parts did not maintain the initial hype, i think they did their best to get the style of the original dancers, slow, subtle sexiness, aggresiveness in some parts but yes i wish theyd moved more. was as energetic as the song, but the comments here said they have no control of the choreography as it was pre-determined and i think they were practicing that routine solely until theyre given a new dance. so cant really blame them. they did their best, they look so great, i really love the foxy eyed short haired girl. ultimate girl crush for me

Sometimes they just need to focus the attention of the audience on the person standing in the middle. If all people do complex but different actions at the same time, this stage will look like a group of demons and chaos, but it will never be full.

I totally get you. However, it's not under their control to make up choreography, outfits, etc. Plus performing more than 4mins is quite a normal amount. It's okay that you didn't know certain things (maybe you're pretty new to Kpop or something). But their stage presence were very strong and their dance is still really good.
