*18:26** LMFAO!!* 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 The way you angled your head at the same time as turning your character side on and then saying, "Can I hear... what's going on inside?" This is one of the funniest things I've ever seen watching gaming content. Hilarious! 😂 *20:58* Well, he looks armless enough to me... right?! 🫣 No, please don't get up. I'll show myself out! 😒 Thanks for the scary entertaining upload, Miranda! 😱😊

14:22 Hmm 🤔 wouldn’t that mean our perception of reality is only as strong as our brains can interpret those signals then? That means, in theory, if we could strengthen the brains ability to perceive more accurately of those signals or just more data in general then our reality would also strengthen then right 👀 ooh that’s interesting because then if simulation theory is accurate it would mean that the world would have to have certain parameters and guidelines and all that so people would be putting those all together. So if a strong brain does it then the reality for all could be good but what if the brain can’t be strengthened. If we don’t live that long enough to find out there’s nothing worry about 😂 who cares if reality is a simulation and it can be strengthened if the brain is strong enough because I won’t be around to find out unless we are in a simulation and it wants to keep me here in an organic body forever in that case well I hope to get put into one of those companion robots you know the ones who can tell funny jokes and reminds you to buy pet food 😂 just have my little robot be helpful and make people smile.

Jump scares are why I dislike a lot of horror themed media. Jump scares are a cheap way to get a reaction and if something relies too heavily on jump scares it isn’t actually scary. I much prefer psychological horror that makes you feel scared even if nothing scary is actually happening.

And HERE WE ARE! I've been waiting to see this part. I'll edit this comment as I watch. 6:50 - Not just a light source, but also a power terminal. You have the option of unplugging the Robin bot here. I don't know if it frees up a place to heal, though. I've never tried. 17:44 - The WAU is keeping this person alive, as it did with Amy Azarro back at the train station. 29:53 - What activates it? Sound. Remember Strohmeier's note? "Be quiet, the proxy listens." That's the proxy. It hears really well. Fortunately, it has no arms and is also blind. 31:22 - Some monsters will kill you in one hit. Most will not. The proxy knocked you out and walked away. You awoke with less health. I think you can take three hits from a proxy before you die. I wouldn't test it, though. 40:52 - The "Mockingbirds" are the robots that believe they are human. You've already met a few. You unplugged the one for Vigdis Jonsdottir (aka "Jonesy" to her coworkers) to power up the thermal plant at Upsilon. The Mockingbird for Carl Semken, also at Upsilon, is probably still screaming his head off. And of course the one for Robin Bass is right outside Theta, convinced she's on the ARK. 47:40 - The music spiked because you were facing Robin Bass' bed, which was covered in blood. Also, you can turn on the lights in most of these rooms. And everyone who has a pneumatic seal over the door to their room is one of the continuity suicides. 57:48 - Simon's brain scan was May 2, 2015. It's actually there on the screen 😂 He died June 1, 2015, nearly a month later. All in all, this was everything I hoped it would be. I knew the proxy would scare the brains out of your head but you got them back quickly enough to get the security cipher from Brandon, so bravo for that! I know you're scared of going the to the abyss, but if it makes you feel any better, Theta still has a few more tricks up its sleeve before you go anywhere 😁 Keep being awesome. Can't wait for part 5!

Hey! Been really enjoying your play through and commentary. Although there is something in this location that’s easy to miss and really cool. In the bathrooms where you were checking the stalls you can interact with the mirrors and Simon will look at himself. I think you can interact multiple times and get different reactions out of him. It’s one of the most memorable things I have in my mind from playing it so long ago. It’s really short but I thought you’d really enjoy that.

The part where people started killing themselves in order get into the ARK is eerily similar to the Heaven's Gate cult. A group of cult members who committed mass suicide believing they would be transcended to a new life. Or something like that. I wonder if that's what the game was referencing.
14 дней назад
Was really hard to watch this part, you missed like half the game just by not opening the drawers from desktops. I thought that by coming back to brandon's room you saw that you missed a lot of stuff, but yeah, you basically didn't get to know anything about Robin and Sarang. You also forgot to listen to catherine about proxies, and Akers back in delta, you thought you saw some things on the ground, but it was interactable and you could pick to inspect, those were eyes, and they are meant to tell you that the beasts are blind but can hear.

What Robin and the rest of the continuity cult mean, is that they believe that if you die close to when the scan is done, you will somehow be transported to the arc. Which is a massive cope, essentially. A brainscan is a copy. If the original dies, the original's mind is not 'transferred' into the copy, that's bs and makes no sense. Imagine that you copy a file on your computer, and then delete the original. That doesn't mean the original was somehow transferred into the copy, the original is dead and the copy is a copy, nothing more. The Continuity Cult is just basically the Cope Cult.
@grimm_satisfaction1292
@grimm_satisfaction1292 3 месяца назад
Fucking Sarang and his crackpot hypotheses... 🙄
@boretrk
@boretrk 3 месяца назад
It's essentially a variant of Teletransportation paradox. In Star Trek they sort of try to sidestep the issue by saying that they also send the matter over to be reassembled, but as Sarang points out that is irrelevant since your body replaces the matter all the time. Of course you can say that any form of disassembly/reassembly creates a new person distinct from the original, but it still gets iffy if you bring in the Ship of Theseus into the mix.
@AveryHyena
@AveryHyena 3 месяца назад
@@boretrk Except it's not, because no one is being transferred or teleported, only copied. There's nothing being "disassembled" here. It's the same as creating a clone of yourself, nothing to do with teleportation. Simon in the game only *thinks* that he himself can "get on" the arc because one; he's coping like the continuity cult because he can't handle the fact he's going to stay here forever and die, and two; he's a primitive older brain scan, so he has trouble understanding things like this, unlike Catherine who's scan was made using the method she took from the WAU to create a perfect copy. Catherine also realizes that Simon will never understand, after repeatedly telling him how it works, so she decides to play along with Simon's delusion so she can get him to launch the arc.

@3:50 What I really like about this story is that so many of the characters are mistaken, misguided or just plain self-deluding. But They are generally honest about what they believe, based on the understanding they have. So the idea that you could essentially transfer your "Self" (as shorthand for that fundamental "you") into the ark by making a copy and then destroying your original self, is very obviously false, but it's very difficult to disprove. For starters, that fundamental "you" or "Self" is intangible and cannot be measured or perceived. We just assume it is there because the person we're talking to believes that they have it, just as we believe we have it. So in the case of continuation of Self in the Ark: the version of you that died would never know whether it was true or not, because they are dead. And the version of you that lives in the ark would believe that it worked because they are alive and they are themselves. It's only an outside observer who would see that one being was copied into two, and then the first being died. The fact that Simon buys into this misconception is all about his inability to deal with the existential crisis that is happening within him. It's really fascinating and great story writing.
@AveryHyena
@AveryHyena 3 месяца назад
I mean, it's actually very easy to disprove. Simply make a copy of a file on a computer, then delete the original. Obviously, this doesn't make that file "transfer" into the new one, because you can open up the recycling bin and see that's it's been there all along. *It's dead*. Also another reason why Simon is deluded about it through the whole game is because he's a primitive older brain scan, so he has trouble understanding things like this, unlike Catherine who's scan was made using the method she took from the WAU to create a *perfect* copy.

1:03:20 Thinking of death as liberating "because I can do whatever I want to do" is a very dangerous ideology, if we're honest. If the purpose you think your life is for happens to be "make people happy," that's all well and good. But what if a different person thinks his purpose is to kill as many people as he can? By your logic, his "purpose" is equally valid and you shouldn't judge him. If there's no absolute morality, and everything is relative, and death is where we're all headed, why not do everything on impulse, whether others like it or not? If your answer is "because it hurts other people", can you explain why that's immoral, if death is meaningless (and therefore life is meaningless too)?

4:50 It's similar to teleporter conundrum. If the teleporter records every atom in your body, then transmits that information to another place, then reconstructs you according to that data, is it really you? or just a copy of you? What if I take the transporter information, and make another copy of you, who's the real you, if any.

Really enjoying watching your reactions to this. It's always entertaining to see how games like this can very easily put in what I call challenge blinders where the simplest things get overlooked as your mind is racing with everything else. Definitely recommend revisiting the game or checking out other peoples playthroughs after you finish as there is soo much world building and lore stuff that I you didn't see even so far. And there's soo much thought that can be put into decisions. Like erasing Wan's data after you got that cypher could be seen as freeing him as a copy of his existence is trapped on that chip not, and could possibly end up being found by the WAU.
@Shintada2
@Shintada2 3 месяца назад
Your play-through is hilarious, and some of your tangents are quite interesting. And no, you didn't mess up - the Dunbat going nuts is a scripted event, not something the player can fail. A couple points where you missed hints the game gave you, to try and help you with future segments, without spoilers? At 15:38, just before you got scared by the howling noise, Catherine mentioned a report of 'Be quiet, the Proxy listens', which Simon said sounded like a warning. Later, when you were trying to hide and run from the 'scrotum on legs' as you called it, it started catching up to you whenever you: -closed a door, which made noise; -walked while standing, which made your footsteps louder than crouch-sneaking; -ran, which made your footsteps very loud; -threw things, which made impact noises; As for your troubles with Brandon Wan - a big clue was how every time, as soon as he was done complaining about Strohmeier getting him worked up, his second line was him asking what happened to the simulation room - meaning that you might delay his suspicion by sticking him in the simulation room he was expecting, to help maintain a continuous progression of events from the situation his scan originated from. ...but yeah, the consistent forgetting of the omni-tool is an easier, more frequent thing to work on.
