You always got that awesome scenery, then the bugs had to ruin it like the plague was hitting. Hopefully the freezing days or weeks we had actually killed them off this year. I have had reels like that and could never cast them without the drag closing on me. I couldnt get a good cast or cast hard. Another awesome fish Austin, congrats
Haha yeah I was over that trip pretty quick once it got dark. Last year I don’t remember it getting very cold in the winter so I’m sure that didn’t help. This year hasn’t really been all that cold yet though. So the trick the reels is the get non power handles or ones that don’t automatically engage. The squalls you have to manually engage so you never have to worry about the handle spinning around and locking your cast up. Appreciate you watching!
I started my own mixture 1/4 cup coconut oil, 2-3 drops lavender, 2-3 drops basil essential oil. I dont like chemicals so much, and this is about the best remedy I've found. You'll have to apply it more often than bug spray though (every 1.5 to 2hrs). My youngest and I are bug magnets, and this has helped in NC bug central.
One of the reasons I love winter fishing lol. I use my mad katz kayak rods 100 percent of the time now. Really like the fact they’re more manageable for me. Appreciate ya taking the time to watch!
