I Have Too Many Warbly Pedals (Generation Loss vs Shallow Water vs Warped Vinyl)

I just got the Cooper FX + Chase Bliss Audio collaboration on the Generation Loss. At this point I probably have too many pedals that give you that unpredictable warbly sound, but I just love it so much.
I'm not trying to demonstrate everything that all of these pedals can do, but rather just showing how I use them to make a mellotron sound even more old, unpredictable, and lo-fi.
I'm using my Nord Electro 3 HP, on a mellotron flute setting, going into a looper, going into one of the pedals, going into my interface.

7:44: Cooper FX - Generation Loss (2019, w/ noise mod)
12:17: Fairfield Circuitry - Shallow Water
15:36: Chase Bliss Audio - Warped Vinyl (original version, #83, Joel's signature is starting to wear off)
correction: I've had the Warped Vinyl since 2014, not 2013. It's hard to keep track.

Funny, I just picked up the shallow water and within 24 hours of owning it I happily realized it makes everything sound like mellotron (one of my fave sounds). Also when you really drive the volume gain it makes the best unintentional distortion I’ve heard in a stomper. It’s capable of some really low frequencies with the LPF down as well. So good

This is so beautiful. I love this broken sound. Also glitch but havent found the right pedal for this yet. Those Gen.Loss pedals are so nice. Such a shame they are not made any more : ( I got the warped Vinyl, but it's the HI-Fi that I find it boring because of the lack of lo-fi that makes it more like a weird chorus or vibrato. Also got a Demedash T-120 that is nice even though it can't go 100% wet and is not randomly warbly. But I bought a secondhand Strymon El Capistan today and that one is gold, much better than I expected : D Also will try it together with the Warped vinyl that might breath some life into the Hi-Fi. Also ordered a FFS Shallow Water today. Who needs food anyway : )

I think the Fairfield had a more crisp sound. It felt more airy. Maybe that's some noise coming through, but I liked it. Felt wider. Did you say which was you fave and why?

Will you make an updated version of this video including the Gen.loss v2? While your at it, why not get the Demedash T-120 Videotape Echo to?
@jsbachrachs
@jsbachrachs 3 года назад
Haha, I did just order one! Although, I decided to delay the order since he asked if volunteers could step up since his system over sold it. But as soon as I get it I'm gonna make a new video, I think I'll also throw in the Strymon Deco and El Capistan since they can both get similar vibes going. I haven't tried the T-120 but it looks amazing, might have to keep my eyes peeled for one of those.

@@jsbachrachs I bought a secondhand El Capistan when I went into my local guitar shop to get Shallow Water, that was sold out and I had to order it. Didn't really know what I was buying but I'm so glad I did. I also bought the T-120 second hand but not sure I would recommend it for the full price. It's good and I use it a lot as it has a large range and good for what I'm doing, that is synths, meaning that I tweak it a lot during playing, but, I have problems putting a finger on what it is that makes me say but. Maybe it's a bit to much? maybe it's character takes over somewhat? One thing that annoys, me but apparently is not the case in the V2, is that it can't go 100% wet. Have a listen to this composer Christian Henson's talk on the updated deluxe version, that has more functions, like tap tempo. He is not right about his complaints about the time decisions though as you can read in the comments, but then the pedal is not that intuitive so I think he is excused. He also has a good demo of how to make a stereo recording with Shallow Water, and his videos in general are very good quality. @@jonaseggen2230 I love christian henson! I have a few Spitfire libraries too, and I love his shallow water video. Haha I do notice that sometimes he'll get a detail off every now and then, so I definitely get that comment. I'm also a huge fan of getting as much used as possible, if I happen to see a T-120 come up around me I'll definitely give it a look! But yeah, the el capistan is almost always plugged in for me, especially into synths. Although, as I say that, right now I've got my DOD Rubberneck plugged into my synth, I was in an analog mood for some reason. There are just so many good options out there!

@@jsbachrachs I just recently discovered Christian so I want to share him with everybody now, not realising that most people probably know about him : ) I found a comment there from Loopop complementing the Shallow Water and Christian was something like "Hey! Loopop! Great channel you got!" And Loopop was like "Oh! thanks", as if they where both a bit stoked, as they are both masters in their own area I guess. Second hand or sale is fun because it makes me take different paths on the journey than I initially thought I would. I don't use daw really, but mostly eurorack and more than half of my modules are either bought secondhand or on sale, something that made me learn a lot I didn't expect to learn etc. That DOD seems really nice. I also got a Pladask Tåken delay, but not using it much actually, so might sell it. I have the digitech Obscura to, that is rather cheap but versatile and good and that one together with the cheap TC electronics Hall of Fame is a great combo as the HoF has this toneprint thing where you can make your own algorithm. So I made my own really fucked up one that can destroy the sound completely if I want, and together with something simple like the Korg Monotron, or a sequence from Mother 32 I sometimes find gold. My focus is mostly on more utility modules for my eurorack and I feel I have enough of warbling and tape emulations going on, but my next pedal will be something like the Red Panda Tensor for glitchy stuttering sounds, and also been eying the not to expensive Old Blood Noise Signal Blender in order to make my pedal chains more eurorack like. Then at some point I might look into a filter and a wavefolder pedal to as it would be fun to see how close to building a synth out of pedals I could get. Anyway this was a loong ramble so don't feel obliged to reply, but if you have some input regarding stutter glitch pedals I would be thankful for that.

Which one out of all these has the least amount of hiss/whitenoise in the background?
@jsbachrachs
@jsbachrachs 2 года назад
The generation losses can actually have zero hiss, if you completely remove any noise. Those are digital effects, so it's possible to be essentially noise free. The warped vinyl is the noisiest (less so for mkii and hifi versions), followed by the shallow water.
@Bluechipssssss
@Bluechipssssss 2 года назад
@@jsbachrachs thanks for the quick reply! I just bought the warped vinyl hifi, I love it however I wish it didn’t have all the noise. I even adjusted the compression trimmer trimpot which reduces noise, and it’s still too loud for my liking. There’s an obvious market for the noise given the pedal’s success. I just don’t hear a use for it; if I’m recording I can use a plug in to add hiss/whitenoise and in a live setting my amp and cabinet already have a certain amount of noise. I’ll try the generation loss! Thanks!

Is it possible to damage the Chase Bliss / Cooper FX by inputting a high volume level from a synth?
@jsbachrachs
@jsbachrachs 5 лет назад
Not that I can tell, I use most of my pedals with line level instruments and I'll use a reamp box with any pedals that act weird. The Warped Vinyl is one of those where if I'm not careful about the input level it'll clip, the other three here don't have any issues that I've found.

Jamooshoe was curious, do you think there is a sound difference between the cooper and the chase/cooper model?
@Jamooshoe
@Jamooshoe 4 года назад
Joshua Fuller Yes. I wish it wasn’t so as I didn’t want to keep both. To my ears the filters, compression and noise are different. The I prefer the compression and noise on the OG (and how they interact with the filter). The chase bliss is more versatile (especially the filter range), and that’s before you discuss ramping, exp control and aux switch. I’ve spent hours trying to get my favorite OG sound replicated on the CB version... I get close but not close enough to sell it. I reckon I’ll consider buying the Arcades once they release the gen loss card as the extra features are fun. But the OG has a magic for me at least :)
