@22.56 - that is because the Japanese and Korean languages borrowed alot of Chinese words and even have Chinese characters in their writing systems - in the case of Japan, it is kanji (Chinese words) and in Korea, it is hanja (Chinese words).
I agree. The metro ticketing and lines in Japan is so confusing. One of the worst organized system in the world. The on in China is the best in my opinion. For bullet train in China no ticket is needed. Your id or passport is all that is needed. Plus the metro in China the ticket is allowed in all lines. You just buy the destination and that is it. It doesn’t matter if you took a ride in any line all day but as long as you exit in the destination that you have bought the ticket for you’ll ne fine. No confusion. So crazy that the Japanese has not figured out this yet after all these years.
This is the person who rode next to me on the Shinkansen. It was really nice and fun to meet you guys. I wish we had more beer together. I'm glad you liked the unagi too. If we ever meet again, I would like to show you around Osaka. I want to drink at a cheap and delicious restaurant.
Hey, friend!! I wish my wife and I were still in Osaka, and we could go for a beer! It was very nice meeting you. You represent Japan well, very friendly and helpful 👍👍
In Japan you clean yourself outside the bathtub, then you go into the bath and warm yourself up. That way the bathwater stays clean for the next person in the family to use. By the way since you’re in Tokyo please try monja yaki! It’s the ultimate cheap snack that you probably cannot have anywhere else in the world. The best place to get it is in the Arakawa ward area.
I think I might have just learned my first kanji now, I’m going to remember this! When we went to Japan I only learned the kanji for woman, I was afraid of going to the wrong gender bath in an onsen!
Just saw that you guys recently vlogged Japan! I went in January last year, I saw the line for the same starbucks and got a coffee from a vending machine instead before getting on my shinkansen. My main reason for going was my favorite band returning from hiatus with 2 shows in Chiba. I was going back to Tokyo around 7-5 days before the concert, and the person that sat next to me was also going! What a coincidence. The Shinjuku station is so confusing, but I guess it's necessary since it's the busiest station lol. 22:35 I ended up here in the exact same spot flabbergasted as to where the hell I'm supposed to go
Steve and Ivana, you always figure it out and make everything look so easy. I know Ivana puts in a lot of time and research before booking or going anywhere. When dad and I travelled with you, we were always amazed how you both knew how to get from point a to b, and how easy you made it look! Another fabulous video. Keep safe, healthy and happy.
Oh guys, you picked the most crowded place in Tokyo to stay at. I hate Shinjuku station (don’t love Shibuya either). We stayed in Akihabara (it was cheaper), it was still on the Yamanote line but it wasn’t too big nor crowded. Plus it was close enough to Tokyo station to taxi there without spending too much. Shinjuku is just too crowded to deal with every day. One the nicest things about Japan was that, for the most part, even cheap restaurants and konbini food is still pretty good - they don’t half ass stuff there. Unagi is probably one of my favourite foods! I went to a fancier restaurant for that during lunch time - you can get much better prices at lunch!
Hi, I'm canadian. I rode the China HSR from Shanghai that literally went 682 km/hr.!! China has a maglev prototype train that travels 1100 km/hr, but they won't be available for public use until 2030.
Great video! I'll be going to Tokyo and Osaka soon and want to try out conveyor belt sushi. What's that sushi place in Osaka called btw? Looking forward to your Harbin video too!
26:04 the soaking tub is there because Japanese take baths EVERY night, after cleaning their bodies in the shower. The trick is not getting soapy water in the tub, which is why most have a cover.
for better navigation inside the train system in Tokyo or big cities of Japan even if you hold a JR pass you use a Suica card to pay, which works with your Apple wallet if you use an iPhone, android users have that too but from what I have been told with some issues.
Steve, been meaning to tell u after every video: "such" clever machinery and the machinery is "so" clever. But never "so" clever machinery. Such +adjective+ noun and noun + is + so + adjective. In case you care 😂 Thanks for your videos either way 😊
What GREAT travellers you both are !! One moment, you guys were in China, then to Japan, back to China, next to S.Korea. Well, continue travelling when you are still strong and healthy and have strong legs. Thanks for sharing this cool video.... travelling to Japan, "Land of the Rising Sun"
@@chaw294 also, they are travel vloggers for income. they are not too interested in just China, if they were, they would get a proper visa to go rural areas as well as learn some basic Mandarin.
Is that all? Shanghai does 11 million per day on average. Fact. Been to both China and Japan, and China's infrastructure in fact puts Japan to shame. That's why Saudi et al contract exclusively with China now. Japan's new bridges in Indo and VN collapses and its train in Indo is a failed disaster too.
@@davidrichards1741 are you talking about Shanghai has a single station or as a city with multiple stations. My info is from Wikipedia (I also live in Japan and experience this first hand). Just google world’s busiest stations
Navigation on the transit system uses google maps, which is accurate and with cost value when you google with different options to get to the same point.
Minute 2:15, and yes I was there to take picture with the Glico man! LOL! Train 285km/hour. The train stations...thank my son and wife and my daughter, they lead, me and hubby just follow.
I just Love: Your travelling on real persons budget, your real travel experiences, your willingness to try new things and most of all that you immerse yourselves in the local culture, despite the obvious language challenges! My 2 new favorite Vloggers!
#JetFam I would love to hear your thoughts on mask culture in Japan. It’s grown a lot since pre Covid, and now almost like a uniform for many jobs, even though it’s never been a legal requirement.
Camera moves too fast while changing directions, made us painfully dizzy. If you guys could be more carefully for a better viewing experience for us. Thanks
Nice transition from downtown Osaka to Shin Osaka for the Shinkasen. 😉 Technically the Tohoku Shinkansen in northern Japan is the fastest but it's close enough. Enjoy your time in Japan. There is much to enjoy.
You are in Japan now. Well some advice for the both of you whilst you are in Japan is to respect their culture and be respectful and please don't try and act like Johnny Somali or Fidias. Japan had some nuisance streamers problem recently and they don't want any more of them. Other than that happy travels.
Soon we're gettin this too, in USA, between LA and San Fransisco!! :) Or.... probably not :( But we are the best country in the world on everything!! Or... that was probablyheld true 50 years ago :( I'm confused :S
The train was impressive. 500 km in two hours is very fast indeed! But considering it took you another two hours to be able to leave the train station, maybe it's not that much of an improvement XD
Honestly there are only 5 major cities in Japan you can see and there is not much in Japan because a lot of travelers already covered this country and saturated so much that it’s not much of an exciting taste when seeing it as a “new” location on RU-vid but nevertheless nice video you guys and I cannot stand raw fish and the raw food they usually serve in most cases. Cantonese is the best.
