I had an incredible hike in the Yorkshire Dales, doing the Whernside Circular on a beautifully clear day. The journey started with a walk past the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct, an awe-inspiring sight against the backdrop of the dales. As I made my way up Whernside, I passed by the historic Blea Moor Signal Box, which added a touch of railway history to the hike.
Continuing the ascent, I came across the stunning Force Gill Waterfall. I couldn't resist stopping for a few pictures; the waterfall was absolutely breathtaking. After a short break, I set off again, tackling more inclines. It was pleasantly quiet, likely because it was midweek.
Nearing the top of Whernside, I spotted a small, serene lake. Though it looked inviting, I decided to carry on up to the trig point. At the summit, I found two little seating areas with sides to provide some cover from the wind. I took the opportunity to enjoy a quick snack and drink while soaking in the panoramic views.
The descent was steep in places, but the path was well-maintained with plenty of rocks and slabs, making it manageable. Once at the bottom, I passed by a bit of a farm and continued down Philpin Lane. Just before reaching the main road, I walked past the charming Philpin Farm Campsite and its convenient little shop for supplies.
Finally, I emerged onto the main road, B6255, where I had parked my car in a layby just up from the Old Hill Inn. This hike was a perfect blend of natural beauty, historical landmarks, and peaceful solitude. For those interested, I've added locations in the images on the video so you can easily find them. route link & what 3 words for parking

Definitely whernside had a bit of everything and is the biggest but there are so many picturesque places I'm spoilt for choice when it comes to what to do next. I've got Wales at end of July then Scotland coming up August and in-between I'll be either lakes, peaks, Yorkshire dales 😊 all the long distance ones I like to camp so makes it even more of an adventure
