Get the exclusive NordVPN deal here: nordvpn.com/ellbat. It’s risk free with Nord’s 30 day money-back guarantee! IMAGE DESCRIPTIONS: my living room - a large rectangle room with high ceilings and wooden floors. A white fireplace with a small wood burner sits on the wall opposite the door. a large bay window is on the farthest wall from the door, at the very end of the room. The walls are grey with white trim. $20 interior designer - the same room now has a grey sofa with it's back to the fireplace. The fireplace is now empty with glass covering the hole. There is a fitted bench under the bay windows. There is a TV console and TV opposite the sofa, with two small circular seats/beanbags on the floor. The wall with the fireplace is now wood panelled, as is the long wall opposite it (the wall with the TV). There is a 4 seater wooden table in front of the door, facing towards the wall opposite the door. $100 interior designer - the fireplace and walls have remained as originally. There is a long wooden table with 6 chairs in front of the door, facing towards the wall opposite. On the wall with the door is a long 3 tiered wood and metal open shelving unit. A white curved sofa sits in front of the shelves on a beige circular rug. There is a small circular coffee table, with two wood and rattan chairs opposite. One chair sits in front of the bay window, the other near the fireplace. $200 interior designer - the fireplace and walls remain as originally. a marble circular table sits in front of the bay window, with 4 wood and rattan chairs around it. In front of the door, a curved white leather sofa sits on a circular rug. Opposit the sofa is a small armless chair, consisting of two circular blobs put on top of each other. A medium coffee table sits between them.

The $20 is a 0/10. They didn't listen to you at all. You said you can't change or add to the room and they did alot of both and you said no TV's and the reason the couch doesn't face the fire place is because it's facing a big flat screen TV. The room looks lovely if you can actually make it look like that. But for dropping the ball so many times I'd say 0. I agree with your scores for the other two
@carnifaxx

Designers LOVE to use very expensive furniture in their visual projects, because usually those 3D models can be found for free. For others they have to pay a bit. I used to work at a company which hired freelancers to make 3D models of most beautiful pieces from our catalogue - tables, chairs, vases, etc. They were available for downloading for free so the designers could use them and show these options to clients. IDK if companies with cheaper furniture did the same. I imagine a cheap dining chair would be a bestseller anyway, but a chair that costs like 5 minimum wages would need some heavy promotion from interior designers. If you don't set a hard "spending" limit for an interior designer, they would just "fill" the rooms with the designer chandeliers, sofas, rugs. Because expensive things do often look prettier and it's way easier. Then you are stuck with a perfect picture that you love, try to find similar things within your budget, and everything looks like a knock off version of the perfect picture. Insist on them using only things you can afford.

Great tip if you are working with an interior designer in person and long term but not worth it for the small designers online since all that extra effort would also cost a lot more on their end (both time and money wise) and should not be included for free in the price of a single render.
@cb9825
@cb9825 Год назад
@@TheKaurK maybe it would be better to pay the designer more and get furniture options that are exactly your price range. It would save a lot of time and effort.

I really like the $100 designer's render the most, but I do really like the table being by the window like in the $200 designer's render... the $100 one feels the most like a home to me? the $20 one gives off major hotel vibes, and the $200 feels cold... i dunno. but i do LOVE the table being by the window in the $200 one. I think if the table were by the window in the $100 render that would be a 10/10 for me

Re: round tables/sofas, when my family moved into our new place, my mother actually drew out the shape she wanted our dining room table to be out on newspapers, with lots and lots of curves everywhere, some bigger some smaller, and the person making the table wanted to take so many out/make it more angular, but this table is really lovely, so I can only recommend round/wavy tables!
@t.a.yeah.
@t.a.yeah. Год назад
Yes, I want a round dinig table, too. I think, it would lead me through the room in a good way, whereas a rectangular table would kind of stop me by entering the room. And we had a round table, when I was a kind, it always felt so.. together. :D (and shaped my taste, I guess)

@kiriporritt6057
@kiriporritt6057 Год назад
My main complaint with all 3 is that they've changed the colours of the walls - which doesn't give you an accurate representation of what their recommendations would actually look like in your current rental. I love the round dining table near the bay window and the curvy couches. I agree that the fireplace should be the focal point of the room for the living area. For the superstar couch - have you tried looking second hand for something similarly funky? I find a lot of really great stuff on Marketplace or whatever second hand platform the UK has access to. Definitely don't use heavy curtains and block the light from the bay window.
@kristinachalker9893
@kristinachalker9893 Год назад
Totally agreed that the table in the bay window was the move, unless you like hosting large dinner parties, because I could see that space getting claustrophobic quick! With the wall “cladding”, there are a lot of peel and stick wallpapers that are rental friendly that could potentially work to achieve that effect!

@ronelltofte1665
@ronelltofte1665 Год назад
A round table by the window is a great idea. However none of the designers took the period style of the room into consideration. Gustavian style would be a much better option. There are beautiful cupboards or dressers ( with doors) to choose from which would provide "catproof" storage as well. A tall mirror above the fireplace will also reflect light into the rest of the room. It is easy to swop out a ceiling light with a chandelier and will allow for the orginal light fixture to be returned to its place. Try to have at least 5 lightsources throughout the room. And a large carpet in the seating area could add pattern and a touch of colour. Enjoy your new space!

The second (£100 designer) one is the best by MILES. Right style, thoughtful regarding your needs (OK not so much regarding your budget, but hey at least you wouldn't have to buy a new table), really consistent, cosy and homey. I love the dining nook in the bay window. You will enjoy it more than the living room itself, no matter how you design it. Your cat needs it's own furniture/carpeted shelves. Put that in the corner opposite the entrance. Possibly a small table or chest of drawers for tablecloths and cloth napkins just inside the the entrance on the left WITH a lamp on it. It's easy to turn the lamp on for ambient lighting instead of the overhead. And the sofa definitely needs to face the fireplace, a smaller sofa (than the ones your designers suggested) with 2 funky, different styled, comfortable chairs on either side The sofa and chairs need wooden legs to make the room more spacious in a neutral colour - not white. AND with a wide pathway between the lounge furniture and fireplace leading you into the dining nock. The coffee table - funky - you'd have room for an unusual shape. I love the floors. Wood floors need a rug big enough to fit under the sofa's, chairs' and coffee table's front legs. And artwork - extremely important. It's like the jewellery that finishes the dress and very personal. Just as people look at your books in your bookshelf to glean more about you, artwork reflects YOU. I'm a colour person and you love neutrals - add colour in your artwork. Imagine a large Picasso type piece behind your sofa. Every morning you'd love walking past it on your way to the window and table with your coffee. It's a beautiful room.

You made a stipulation that the room would not contain a TV. There still needs to be a form of entertainment in the room. This can be fixed by adding speakers to the room. I would recommend some type of Bluetooth-record player. This way you could hide Bluetooth speakers with the appearance of a record player. Alternatively, you could get a Bluetooth sound bar and place it on the fireplace as well. The reason for why I would put the dinning area near the windows is because of flow. When you walk into the room, if the first thing you see is a waist high object, then the room feels smaller and like it is going to fall on top of you. Plus, when you sit on the sofa your back is facing the wall and you see the windows. This makes the room feel larger. Also, couches/sofas go in the center of a vary large room, this is why you see them next to walls. Another reason for why you would put the sofa facing the windows, is lighting. Lights goes into the room from the windows, this will cast shadows, which can make reading/relaxing difficult.

This was fun. I just redesigned my house in Japandie and love its simplicity and flow. It is tranquil with spots of luxuriant comfort to read or relax dotted around the house. 1st Designer 2/10. Did not stick with original specifications. The cost of doing such a design would be outrageous. 2nd Designer 8/10. Nice room, great flow. Keeping it low and Japandie. For an apartment the cost of this room would be budget friendly. However, the colour scheme is old...need 2022 colours on the wall. I know you like curved sofa's, but you can get nice sofa with rounded arms instead. 3rd Designer gets a 7/10. I like the dining table by the window and a round table is more inviting. I think there is too much round furniture and it looks rather silly. Love the little duel table by the chair that fits inside the other. You can get similar at Dunelm. The colour scheme, or lack thereof does not take the fireplace into consideration. My thoughts is to add a bit of colour from the fireplace in cushions or art...just a tad...on an otherwise neutral theme from the 2022 colour line.

Many people use places like Craigslist and whatever it might be in your country (you have an accent to me. lol) and find beautiful, expensive pieces at a discount. Seems like a rejection of that beautiful architecture and tiling to put such stark and ultramodern furniture in it, though, but you should be true to yourself.

You should call the people that have that sofa and tell them you've been advertising them for free on your podcast and if they'll give you one for free! You never know for them it's advertisement. If they get three people to buy a sofa video that it pays for itself! Dream big girl!

The round table in the window is a great idea. If you keep searching for the rounded couch you might find a second hand rounded couch. Did you tell the designers you had cats? They all seemed to miss that fact.

Those 3 definitely looked all great. About the first I do actually like the wooden panels with the indirect LED lighting behind. I don't think this is to difficult to install even in a rental apartment. Of course he had a tele (towards which the room was kind of focused) when you explicitly said no television. Between the 100 and the 200 designer I can't make a choice. I think I like the 100 better but that's because I really don't care for dining areas, so this can be in the end of the room away from the window. ... Also the oval carpet goes really well with the rounded sofa.

Hi love your channel my favourite was $100 dollar designer room, you could go on that theme for sure. Realise the sofa is so expensive. Must be something out there too get that look on a much smaller amount of money. To be honest I think you have great taste and will easily make that room, look beautiful whatever you choose. Hope you both and kitties are really happy there. Give it time and you will love it there. ❤️❤️😻thank you for your kindness supporting others

Hi there, new to your channel. Love interior design, I think number three was the prettiest and most beautiful. It combined your room into a space verses changing your room. I loved that dining room in window, it was perfect 👍

You are so funny! I just want to encourage you that you can have leather with cats! We've always had cats, and we've had leather sofas before and it's actually one of the few materials cats are not likely to scratch! They actually seemed to love the leather and lay around on them a lot. 😺

Definitely the dining table by that luscious window. Those blobby mirrors are cool. Add a pop of "hard" color (like an art of a single color like cobalt or vermillion or a large colored cushion), and that set up will be posh!

Iv had really good experiences with leather like materials and cats. They tend to like to scratch fabric more. So as long as you provide them with an alternative they enjoy more then a leather couch shouldn’t be an issue.

I personally think the 20$ design was kind of terrible, especially compared to the other ones. But 20$ is really nothing for this kind of job so I guess it's fair.

While $20 is indeed nothing for designing a room for someone, it’s unacceptable to charge someone for your work and then entirely disregard what they’ve asked you to do. A terrible design would be one thing (and I agree, it’s kind of terrible), but my real issue with that design is that someone charged money for their work and then totally ignored their client. Unless your client has explicitly given you free reign to design whatever you like, you don’t get to waste their money by ignoring their desires at any price point.

What a cool video concept! I like the living room from the 100$ one and the dining room from the 200$ one. The first one honestly surprised me because they put a tv (which you specifically said you didn’t have or want in the space??) and then reoriented the entire room to face it?? Anyway, the last render was gorgeous!

Honestly, I didn't care for any of them. But then, Japandi isn't one of my favorite design styles. :) Abd I have many shelves and 2 cats. I rarely find things knocked off the shelves - maybe because I leave spaces open specifically for the cats!
@gaylejideofor6198
@gaylejideofor6198 Год назад
you can have a little wider shelves like the first one and stack books flat like a pyramid. Fill empty vases with pebbles or glass beads for weight. your cats will get used to it. No one mentioned desk/work area. If you use your dinning table then for sure put it near the window with a shorter bookshelf under the adjacent window. You do have lots of room. Congratz, your 'space' is beautiful. May you enjoy many many happy moments there.

I once bought a $20,000 sectional barely used at auction for $500, never say never! if you're persistent, and a little lucky, you can score great deals at estate sales, foreclosure auctions, etc. there's websites to track new sales as they're posted!
