Ugh been there. I've learned that don't knit too late lesson more than 3x in life, even after I learned it "for real". I have completely restarted more than a couple of projects. However, it did make me braver to blindly unravel without a lifeline and start again successfully a couple of times, when I didn't want to start over. I wouldn't do that with every project but there's something nice about the freedom from the fear of mistakes at that point.

That's a great piece! I kept saying : "no, go to sleep, leave it!" on your midnight stitching. I never work on anything when I'm tired or if I wake up too early and can't sleep because it never failed that I would have to start over later in the day or next day when I was actually functioning. Great job!

I pretty much never knit from patterns (though I often take a technique, construction or stitch from one or several patterns), and I often unravel a couple of times per project because I change my mind or because something doesn't turn out the way I want to, as well as because I made a mistake. At this point I view it as part of the process, and would much rather unravel than end up with something I am not happy with.

I felt that horror music more than you ever know. Probably because I’ve never even thought of a life line when working with lace. That would have saved me hours and hours when I’ve had to completely restart a project because I ripped too far and got lost or didn’t put the yo back in the right places. I’m so glad you made this top! So gorgeous! I might need to make myself one!!

This makes me want to learn knitting. I wish this was a crochet pattern, but I guess I gotta go buy some knitting needles now!

If transitioning to knitting is hard for you, try holding your yarn continental style! Often much easier for crocheters and it was the thing that unlocked knitting for me.
@carolarol
@carolarol 3 года назад
@@thebugbear I know a little knitting, but only enough to make a basic square with no fancy stitches, but I was actually taught to knit continentally first by my grandma. I'm from Denmark, so that might explain that, I think that's how most Danes knit, but regardless, I don't think I would know how to knit the " American" way 😁 But thank you for the suggestion, I would imagine the transition from crochet to knitting would be harder if you knit non-continentally!
@druidsongevergreens
@druidsongevergreens 3 года назад
You could do something similar in crochet. I think the key to keeping the puff sleeves light would be using a slightly large crochet hook for the mohair you choose, to open the work a bit. It would be really tough to mend mistakes though. Those mohair crocheted stitches would lock right in on the first go round.

One of my grandmas tried and tried to teach me knitting as a small child but I'd lose everything off the needles & could never bind off... Left handed problems.. Crochet all my life because I learned mirror style but that doesn't work with knit... Thanks to the power of RU-vid and a left handed knitter with excellent photography skills, I was able to finish learning the basics& completed by first knit projects when I was 57 years old... So go ahead and give it a whirl! You got this!

This could totally be adapted into a crochet pattern. It wouldn’t look exactly the same of course, but you could get a very similar effect to the lace going down the center front with the right combination of stitches.

Could you possibly make a video on how you hold your needles? I learned to knit with really chunky needles and yarn so the way you hold yours with your finger stabilizing the yarn wasn’t how I was taught and the way you do it looks so much more efficient!

Very, very pretty! I totally felt where you were when you had to frog that first bit. I've been making a wingspan shawl and came upon a complicated row that had some weird cabling. I decided to use a lifeline for the first time and was so glad I did because I had to rip sections of it about 4 times. That row took me something like 2 hours. I've had to do it a few more times and am comfortable with it, but still use a lifeline. Truly a lifesaver!

I know this must’ve been heartbreaking to frog, but thanks to having watched this video last week, I managed to save a project for the first time. I had no idea you could go back and pick up stitches with a thread a few rows back (I’m still pretty new to knitting!) and I was so nervous trying it since I couldn’t watch a video of how it’s supposed to be done, but I managed and all thanks to this

Can you talk about using the Kitchener stitch to bring the straps together? I thought the Kitchener stitch was not supportive and I feel like that sleeve seam gets a lot of wear because the whole sweater hangs from there. Also, you seem to be wearing a belt with this sweater? Can you discuss this?

I'ma big girl and i see so many patterns I'd love to make and wear but i've never done more than socks/gloves/hats/ect because i can never find a nice top patter that has a size that will fit me(example most i find go up to large or xl but i need 2x/3x depeding on the way the shirt would sit) how would i size up a pattern to the size i need?

Just an FYI, with the Lindy Chain yarn, I used the dark red and the color did bleed when wet( thankfully I washed it by hand by itself) also the linen blooms once it gets wet so the stitches or gaps may close up a bit.
