We stayed in the studio from 10 until 9 in the morning. I was so tired" There was this one line that they had a space for and she said, 'Come up with a line, Jermaine.' I came up with the line, but I was so tired that I didn't want to put the line down. But she was like, 'No, I need this song finished right now.' It was so crazy, because her energy about the song was almost felt like she knew it was going to become what it did." - Jermaine Dupri. Mariah writes her own music and she makes sure that even if someone else had a small line added or changed a word or two, is added in the writing credits. Jermaine has also commented that Mariah's pen game is very sharp when talking about another song they worked together on if my mind serves me correctly. When talking about that certain song( can't remember which song it was..could have been this one), he said that Mariah wrote the song and he doesn't even remember being in the room at the time. That is how great her pen game is. People really do not know how writing credits is distributed and that's the funny part. A little word change can give you a writing credit. Producers can also be added to writing credits as well for various reasons. Jermaine always makes sure to say that Mariah writes her own songs and that if he has a writing credit, it's because of what was mentioned above. In this case, Mariah asked Jermaine for a line. Jermaine is super talented so lets not get it twisted, but y'all love TRYING(because you can't) to lower Mariah's talent and career.

@@aristothearies No, the song inserts and alludes to lyrics from these songs Bobby Womack's "If You Think You're Lonely Now" and The Deele's "Two Occasions", so the artists who wrote those songs are credited for the small lines included into this song..those artists being Babyface and Bobby Womack. Because of her shouting out Babyface and Bobby Womack and referencing their songs, they were given writing credits. They had no writing contribution to this song.

Not only did she use Bobby Womack saying "If you think you're lonely now," she also mentioned Babyface saying "I only think of you," which was from his song "Two Occasions" with The Deele. You really should check them and Babyface out. You won't be sorry.

Mariah’s a legend. Her discography is just unmatchable. I’m mean she has #19 number one hits more than any solo artist in music history. “We Belong Together” was listed by Billboard In December 2009, as the Song of the Decade and the ninth most popular song of all-time. Hi J, Hi J, Hi J. 😂 Mariah’s first album, Mariah Carey, which came out in 1990, is by far her best, IMO. If you haven’t heard Vision of Love, you’re missing out. If you really want to dive in find her MTV Unplugged set. It was mind blowing. Thanks for covering her. She’s one of the greats.

Love how you pointed out the references of the other songs. I think that would would be somewhat difficult to pull off, but she made it so smooth that you knew what she was referencing. Singing another song in your song and having the vocal keys fit was cool to see. This was such an emotional & beautiful story telling. She can literally make anything happen musically!

You have to listen to her first single and hit - Vision of Love - with the video. came out in 1990; her catalog is huge Yes she is so clever with her songwriting and how she samples music - she is finally being recognized for songwriting - last year they were going to induct her into the songwriters hall of fame but due to covid its been moved to next year I think but they should have just done it online last year. She has a song on her 2008 album called for the record and I love how she included a lot of her past songs in that song as well - just naming them off but she was interpolating it into a verse. She is the best.

Her song writing and producer skills are so mind blowing too on top of that she obviously arranged her insane vocal techniques melodically. It’s so cool how the song samples a song from 1977, and references songs from 1981 & 1991. She’s very clever in setting the visualisation of fine details in her real memories she writes

This song was released in 2005 as the second single from her Monster album The Emancipation of Mimi and crowned her as the artist with the biggest comeback. We belong together stayed atop the Billboard Hot 100 for 14 weeks, blocked another one of her songs from the #1 spot and was the first artist in history to top both the #1 and #2 spots simultaneously. This was also The song of the Decade by Billboard and made her the only artist in history to have 2 songs of the decade. Mariah here fell into her beloved RnB without overdoing it and the climax is scrumptious, the entire song she is a breathy low sound rhetorically asking why she is in that situation and asks for the person to comeback, however in the climax where she ascended to the 5th octave the same words get a new meaning, at this point she has cried her eyes out, she spoke about her pain and now she is not asking for the person to comeback, she is begging desperately and her voice has a sort of a cry that envelops lyrics conveying a message and makes the song perfect as she is using huge vocal dynamics. Fun fact: This video is the 2nd part of her lead single I"ts like that", the older man she was going to marry is Julia Robert's brother and Ema Robert's father, also the dress she is wearing is the one from her wedding with Tommy Mottola in the 90s. At that moment WBT became the most played song in radio of all time. Sad that this masterpiece did not get a Grammy and even the people backstage knew it. When U2 won the Grammy for record of the year they were supposed to play their song but instead they played We belong together and Bono even said that Mariah songs like an angel, really something else.

The actor who plays the guy she was about to marry is Eric Roberts who is Julia Roberts brother. The video is inspired by her first marriage to Tommy Mottola who was the head of Sony music at the time and he apparently controlled everything she did, after they broke up you noticed that she started dressing sexier and experimented more in her music.
