Ooooo! I hadn't thought of that! I did think that the "bad idea" of a clown with leprosy in The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse is similar to Mr Jelly... we even see his hand fall off! I guess there's no such thing as a bad idea!
I absolutely loved this series it was superb and engrossing to see how all the pieces of the jigsaw fall into place. Special shout out to the episode based on hitchcocks the rope as the black lace superman song had me on the floor
@@EnchantedEssays As a single piece it was incredible and I am catching up on inside no 9 but I watch them with another person but they are away and haven't caught up yet so hanging off as of now
I'm very glad to have stumbled upon this review. I loved the League, but was not aware of the other two shows. Will definitely track them down. Thank you.
loved this vid! i recently binged the entirety of psychoville and was kinda shocked that it wasn't more well known or as beloved as their other shows! also maybe a hot take but i actually preferred psychoville to the league of gentlemen lol... like i loved both, ofc, but i just didn't necessarily always vibe with the distinctly 90s/00s style of comedy of league of gentlemen... in general the connected stories and complex characters just really appealed to me (plus i unironically would die for mr jelly lol
Aw thank you so much! Yeah I don't know if I prefer Psychoville or TLOG. I think that Inside No 9 is the best writing I've ever seen ever, but TLOG and Psychoville are better comfort watches because you spend more time with the characters and they're generally more comedic. Thanks for watching!
Brilliant Brilliant if underrated series - incredible idea and storyline. And the characters....the CHARACTERS! It is so loved. Will there ever be a series 3? Thanks for this.
The stuff that The League have produced over the years, weirdly (from my point of view) isn't well liked or known about. Despite our dark sense of humour in this country, plus the timing of their productions, it seems it's too dark for a lot of people. It is surreal, creepy, sinister, clearly funny for the wrong and sometimes, right, reasons. It's testimony to their writing, that they've been on telly for 24 years now. As dark as Gatiss and Dyson are, I liken Psychoville, to series 4 of Monty Python. Once Cleese left, the others were let off the lead, to go completely fucking insane with their stuff. Same applies here and to a lesser degree, with Inside No.9 My opinion is of course, contestible. Also, the Silent Singer....Jesus H Christ for Fuck!!! Just what? What?
Yeah I got my dad into League, Psychoville and IN9 but I knew there wasn't a chance with my mum, so I've just sent her a few League sketches that aren't gross or creepy (Tish, Charlie and Stella, Judee and Iris) and showed her the first episode with Legz Akimbo in whilst skipping through stuff like Tubbs and Edward. Their humour isn't for everyone, but they are undeniably very good at what they do! The funny thing is, I'd never usually say I was a fan of dark or edgy comedy, but they have been the exception. I think it's because they know the difference between being shocking and funny instead of just doing saying something shocking so that they can have the reputation of being shocking. I found it interesting listening to their commentaries and finding out that a few of the sketches that had been done live had bits where they were they toned things down because of the audience's reaction (sometimes as little as swapping out a word). They were aware that there was a line of good taste they didn't want to cross, just get close to it. NOT NOW SILENT SINGER!!! NOT NOW!!!!!!
I love the League and no9 I really do need to see psychoville- I wasn't astounded by the Inside no9 psychoville crossover (one of the only episodes I possibly dislike) but that was mainly because there was too much of a tonal clash with the characters (the realistic young couple just didn't belong in the same universe as David and his mother) I can already tell even from the opening of this video that I'll like Pyshcoville more than that episode
Yeah I wasn't crazy about it as a fan, but it did get a lot of people into the show, so I'm grateful for that. I'd like to give it a second chance without all of my expectations. That definitely worked with me and the League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse! Definitely check the series out, especially if you're also a fan of League of Gentlemen
