Hi possible for you to do a similar test on the Bluvua RO100ROPOT please? Both pre and post remineralization. I think the aquatru adds just calcium and magnesium while the Bluevua adds a bit more. Just wanted to know if overall, that filter is any good.

I really appreciate your approach and would like to see an expanded review going into detail on the filter concerning your findings/impressions of cost to use, ease of operation, cost per produced litre of water, cost of filters, ease of repair, and other parameters that can make or break the decision to own. It is important to know the efficiency but if high efficiency pushes the limits of cost to own or difficulty in use or repair the unit can end up not being a best choice. I understand that your data would be site specific but its a start.

The best way to deal with hard water is with an ion exchange water softening system. This will ensure all your plumbing and appliances are protected from limescale buildup, in addition to the benefits of soft water for your hair

Thank you for this helpful video. Have you come across a filter that removes just as much of the bad stuff as AquaTru but does not eliminate the good?

Unfortunately such a thing does not exist. The most thorough methods of water purification (reverse osmosis and distillation) essentially remove everything. That being said, you can purchase reverse osmosis systems with a remineralization filter stage that will add a small concentration of the good minerals back into the purified water. This will help ensure you are not consuming demineralized water. Additionally, it's good to note that we get the majority of our daily intake of minerals from our food, as long as we are eating a healthy balanced diet.

Thank you. Our family goes thru cases of bottled water like an army. I decided to end that wasteful practice, so I went to the guys most talked about that rhyme with big jerky. In my research on them I found your work and boy am I glad. Its pretty bad that city water that meets epa standards is deemed safe for consumption by living beings. And its pretty bad the big silver water filter thing that is touted to be the standard for safe drinking water isnt. So we thank you, and I believe we will be installing an RO by Aquatru.

I just want to clarify, in our Berkey test video, the standard used is the Simplelab Recommendation (SLR) guideline, which prioritizes human health and much more restrictive than the federal MCLG. The Berkey did not turn city water that passes the MCL into water that doesn't. It still falls within federal regulation even with the leached aluminum, as there is no MCL standard for aluminum set by the EPA as of yet. When looking at the report based on the EPA Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG), the filtered water sample actually falls within regulation, while the unfiltered sample has two contaminants (lead and bromodichloromethane) above the MCLG. great video! I'd love to see you test the gravity fed ProOne filter. I've seen a lot of recommendations to people who already have a berkey to just buy ProOne filters and put them in the berkey stainless steel housing. ProOne filters are supposed to be a lot better than berkey, so I'd love to see if there is any truth to that since i no longer trust berkey, but I still have the housing.

How about testing the Simpure Y7P? Also, BOS Water tested the Waterdrop A1 (at Waterdrop's request) and found dichloromethane and xylenes in the supposedly filtered water! There are too many countertop RO units coming onto the market these days and I fear water safety has become secondary to flashy features. PLEASE TEST MORE OF THESE UNITS FOR SAFETY, ESPECIALLY THE ONES WITH ADVANCED FEATURES! Thanks.

I have an AquTru and regardless of how contaminated the water is, it filtered the exact amount of water every time which is odd. Clean water filtered left clean water in the back tank like it was dirty. When it was not.

Sorry, not sure what you mean exactly? If you are filling the dirty water tank to the top every time, of course you will get the same volume of water in each tank post filtration, respectively.

Bluevua ropot uv vs its lite version please. Especially, for nitrates the producer have not tested for those. Another thing that would probably be cool is to see how good all those systems are at 75-90% of the filter life... if that's realistic at all...

It depends. There is no 'one size fits all' solution. It all depends on what contaminants are in the source water being filtered. Have you had it tested? Do you know what contaminants you are dealing with? I'd highly recommend first testing your water, then using the data to guide your purchase decision. Would you recommend the aquatrue countertop for NY water vs the Waterdrop gravity King tank. I have watched both of your videos and am confused. The aquatrue looks superior due to its RO system, however, it's expensive compared to the Waterdrop. I am looking for something that can reduce metals and contaminants in my tap water to make it safe enough for a baby, so that I do not have to use water bottles. Anyway, I subbed! I love your reviews.

I read every single comment so I'm sorry if I missed it, but have you tested the NU Aqua countertop? I'm a deep researcher and this one seems really good, five year warranty, 180 days full return, shows TDS both in and out , 5 :1 filtered to waste ratio. Seems like the only issue is dispenses only 16 ounces at a time. And I think the tank is in the back

Thanks for your testing! I had heard some great things about it and was planning on buying Aquatru but then read some reviews about the inner parts becoming moldy and people complaining about having a moldy unit. They said it was parts of the unit that couldn't be cleaned. So, that was disappointing. Any thoughts? I was so hopeful till I read about the mold. Can you test the Apec Roct-Plus?

Aquatru support responded with this: Hello Brian, Thank you for reaching out to AquaTru. We appreciate your interest in our products. Yes, we had an issue in the past with the Classic unit, there was a gasket on the dispenser valve that after a few months of use started to develop mold. There are some recommendations to prevent mold or algae such as keeping the unit away from sunlight or heat. We have a new design on the valve and we have learned that is not an issue anymore, the previous version the area was unreachable and hard but impossible to clean. As long as the tanks are washed every week with soap and water and the unit descaled it shouldn't have any problem

I just had a chance to look back at the reviews where folks reported mold and it's true that most are from back a ways but there is one that was posted in March 2024 reporting mold issues in a unit that's only a month old. If the new units don't grow mold then what's up with that? I'm not trying to be a naysayer- I actually want to buy one of these because it sounds like a great unit but mold is a big concern. Not sure there's much more you can say but if you have any further comments I welcome them.

I have been on the AquaTru web site and could not see any third party testing like many filtration systems. Q: has AquaTru been third party tested? Besides what you have done in this video.

AquaTru holds official certifications by IAPMO to numerous NSF standards. In order to gain certification, a product must undergo rigorous third party testing. This includes NSF/ANSI 53 (for contaminants with health effects), 58 for reverse osmosis performance for the reduction of numerous contaminants, P473 (for PFOA/PFOS) and 401 for the reduction of a handful of emerging contaminants. This is included in the lab reports linked in the description. That said, we did not conduct a pH test on site for this project. This could be an interesting follow-up, considering the lab detected an increase in pH post-filtration, when typically we see pH lowered after reverse osmosis treatment.

It is certified by IAPMO to NSF/ANSI standard 473 for PFOA & PFOS (two of the most common PFAS chemicals) reduction pld.iapmo.org/file_info.asp?file_no=0011604 It has not yet been tested or certified for microplastics reduction. Neither of these contaminants were included in the lab test we used, so I don't have any first hand data for you.

So I recently bought the Aquatru with the remineralization filter and I found something no one is talking about. Basically if I use a standard test strip on the city water I get 0 Cyanuric acid but if I run it through the Aquatru I get 200!! I have a whole house filter but I made sure to bypass that and use just regular city water. However even when I use my whole house filter it still says 0 Cyanuric acid. What could be causing this? Everything I read about Cyanuric acid says not to drink it. Any ideas?

That is strange, I can't imaging that the filters themselves would be adding this contaminant to the water. I'd recommend lab testing for more conclusive data.

PPM (parts per million) is a unit of measurement, not a contaminant. I assume you are really asking about the TDS (total dissolved solids) reduction in PPM the unit will provide. TDS concentration in the reverse osmosis product water is directly related to the TDS of the influent water. So, it depends on the water being filtered.

It will, but this is not the intended application of the system. You may experience membrane fouling or premature failure. Check the product warranty before filtering sea water - there might be a clause that says this would void the warranty.

UPDATE on my AquaTru Countertop - Bought on 8-1-23, I have notice it leaking for one of the tanks. For future buyers of this product, I would NOT recommend buying it. It is a pain in the ass to deal with, every week you have to clean the tanks. If you have hard water, then you will need to clean the tanks out with vinegar or some descaling material. You have to fill it up every day, and it's just me using it.

To be fair, the only issue you describe unique to the Aquatru is the leaking tank. Cleaning the tanks regularly is a must with any filter system that employs tanks. The leaking could be a simple fix. I found that the tanks are prone to leaking if not fully positioned. A bit of a design flaw to be sure, but if they are pressed firmly in place they shouldn't leak. If this doesn't fix it, I'd recommend reaching out to the company and getting a warranty claim started 👍

Hi! We live in CO as well, we have the Parker Sanitation district city water. Currently, I have a WaterDrop G3 under my sink but I saw a recent video showing that the counter WaterDrop A1 added methylene chloride aka dichloromethane back into the filtered water. Apparently a few people have found this chemical in Waterdrop systems so I am looking for a replacement as I no longer trust the system. My questions are: Did you find any added aluminum added to the filtered water with the AquaTru RO counter system? Another online video shows aluminum was added to the filtered water of the AquaTru so I am wondering if you saw this on your test result as well. I am assuming you live in CO, so we have similar water issues. Can you let me know what under sink filter you use/recommend as well as a whole house filter? Thanks for your help! I've been researching water filters for over a month and it's hard to find guidance that is trustworthy when it comes to water filtration systems! Thank you for your time! :)

For what its worth, I've installed and tested the Waterdrop G3 series and neither dichloromethane nor xylenes were detected in the filtered water. Stay tuned for those results! Also good to note, just because we are both based in CO doesn't necessarily mean we have the same water issues! Water quality can vary drastically from place to place, even within the same zip code. This is one reason why testing before purchasing any water treatment equipment is so vitally important, so you can be confident you are purchasing a product capable of addressing your unique needs. Have you had your water tested yet? What contaminants/ water issues do you have?

I will be testing with tap score but would like to wait until I purchase a unit so I can collect the water samples at the same time but based on our city water report in 80108 main concerns would be Chloramine, Uranium, Radium, Gross Alpha, Chlorite, TTHM , HAA5, Turbidity, Fluoride, Nitrate, Barium. I'd love to hear any recommendations you may have as I feel lost in this process of trying to find a good under sink/and or countertop unit in addition to a whole house filter for showering, etc.

@@chrish9502 I haven't seen a testing video yet for it but it looks like it's the same filtration system as this one. Modern Castle, who also does testing like this, recommended it for a glass option in the comments of their review of the LifeStraw glass pitcher. I'm still researching it though. Avoid the lifestraw, I bought it and it's getting returned. It's ridiculously slow, mine's taking 50 minutes to filter the fill reservoir and it does a bad job at filtering. Plus the reservoir is plastic and goes 80% to the bottom so even though it's glass you have a big plastic thing sitting in the center. Really disappointing

@@therickylover106 we tested the Santevia MINA pitcher. Video coming soon. And just to clarify, plastic does not leach PFAs chemicals. PFAs and BPA are two different contaminants, with BPA being associated with plastic products. PFAs are a group of thousands of chemicals used in a wide range of products, often for their water and oil repellent properties. I do not imagine PFAs contamination would ever come from a water treatment product itself.

For example filter nr 3 works in both 2 and 3 month twice ..they told me it works for a year ! So 70 Euro each .. 3 in each aquatru a year ! Plus 2 nr 1-2 …and I told them something is wrong but only one answer….my water in north Germany is to hard…no further help…disappointing

In reality, how long a filter lasts is directly influenced by multiple variables include type and concentration of contaminants present as well as usage. This is why filter capacity measured in volume is a much better indicator of filter life. If your filters are hitting capacity that fast, that indicates highly contaminated water.

Nope, we focus on real world performance testing. Our projects don't aim to test every contaminant removal claim, but rather to see how the system performs under real world conditions, like the average user would use it. We don't add contaminants on to the water for testing purposes. We simply test before/ after filtering tap water as it comes from the faucet.
