Having lived in the Philippines 🇵🇭 at Clark Air Base back in the day in 1991. I always thought of retirement in the Philippines 🇵🇭. Now age 62 now. I am a widower, my children are grown. Getting close to retirement. Eventually using the American Military 🪖 Philippines 🇵🇭 sponsored SRRV program. So, soon hopefully to make this happen. Thank you for this video.
What for dreams ?Life can be hard of all place of this planet US ?a lot of homeless over 55 Millions have not Healthy insurance?some life in the Car 🚗 🎉
Looking forward to my retirement too and because of my husband, I’m retiring in Pinas too! I’ve been living in USA for about 44yrs now, born and raised in Cavite. So I know how it feels to move back to the Philippines and lives the life of queen for me. First of all, I cannot wait to have someone prepare my food for me. But on the other hand, I can’t wait to do some charity work for our kababayan there in Pinas. May I know the place you did this interview in BGC?
@@gafabusaroserose , wtf, you’re here again? You’re all over RU-vid bro? Are you a bedridden person with all of your time spends in commenting on various social media outlets? Lol 🤪😩😩😩🤬🤬🤬
It is good to see people who can live comfortably in the Philippines. I won't reveal how much I make, but I have a 3,500 sqft house on 1.5 acreage. But, I live comfortably in Texas. I love my guns and trucks. But, love going on vacation once in a while in different places. I like watching your videos.
Hi Evan this is the second time that I am sending a comment on your videos. I tried to get the 15 helpful steps on moving to the Philippines and put my name and email in and I got a email that says that this is a private site and I could not access it. I sent a comment to you about this and never received a reply. I asked JJ the lonely bull in Asia questions 4 different times on his channel and he replied every time. I subscribed to your RU-vid channel and I thought you would treat your subscriber better than this. There are many other RU-vidrs that I subscribe to that have always responded to my comments. This is important to me because I am planning on staying in BGC for 6 months and Thailand for 6 months when I leave the United States soon.
Hi Matt, sorry about that. I don't always see all of the comments that come through on my channel and I try my best to respond to them all. Here's the link to our 15 step checklist - learn.thesavvyexpat.com/checklist-steps If you have any issues with this link, please shoot me an email evan@thesavvyexpat.com
Mike from That Philippine Life just had recent video in regards to rental in Dumaguete. You can rent a whole house with 2-3 bedrooms for $600 and across the street is a beach.
$1,500.00/month in GBC! My budget is going to be $2,340.00/month in Cebu or Dumagete. That includes housing ($700) ,utilities ($235) , transportation ($150), health insurance/dental/vision ($175), visa($30) phone ($50) and $1,000.00 for food/entertainment. I will still have plenty of money left over. And yes, I commented on this video for someone to respond back if I’m budgeting correctly?
traffic is worse in cebu. im assuming your in IT park. its a "bubble city" but its a small bubble. to get places, the traffic is on par with manila. now if youre asking for if youre bugeting correctly, i can only say this. if you can afford it then its good. as you adjust, you will find cheaper places. just stick to the rule, if you feel youre getting ripped off, then you might probably are. just find better options.
Central location and ease of travel throughout Asia, makes the PI a great place especially Manila. Personally, I can only handle larger cities for a short period, but I do choose to homebase in BGC for the reasons cited, central in the PI and BGC is a quick shot to NAIA. From here, you can hit everywhere from Seoul and Tokyo up north, to Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Min, Singapore/Kuala Lumpur, down to Jakarta. Any of these place can be $200 USD or less, some a good bit less. Heck a quick roundtrip to Taiwan, or Hong Kong is right around $100 USD.
You are right about Dumaguete. There are now too many expat Vloggers there who keep selling the idea of retiring to Dumaguete, which is, IMHO, making it a place to not retire to. My fiancee is from there, and we are very concerned that it's grown way too fast and is now much more expensive (and increasingly so) with too much traffic. Because of this, we might have to go elsewhere to get away from all that.
try other cities within Metro Manila, like Valenzuela or Caloocan, or Bulacan province. The quality of air is better, Valenzuela is like a province but within NCR and has great ammenities and peaceful.
The main problem as far as i am aware of, with those yearly or quarterly renewable insurances is, that on renewal, if you fell sick while you where covered with some kind of chronic, or long treatment condition, they(and of course all other insurance companies) will treat it as preexisting condition. If that treatment is expensive, your premiums will go bonkers or you may not be able to get insured at all anymore, if you cannot cover that.
usa expats are crazy they think they are millionares and they don know that they have a pension monthly not more only that, they dont work in a company in the phillipines
Thanks for the video, my monthly budget is $1500 and I live in Tunasan, Muntinlupa City plus don't rely living pension to pension, you need extra savings and emergency funds. I'm very happy enough not paying any mortgage or rent. I know 5 farangs living there and all military veterans.
Panglao is nice and Bohol is beautiful in general. Make sure you visit Boracay, especially the areas away from White Beach. Puka Beach and Newcoast are really cool.
Boracay is beautiful, it's a paradise, just take etrike in seeing the whole boracay, it's cheaper to ride, visit the keyhole area, very impressive and spectacular.
JJ talk about the "enough" factor. You took a cut in pay but the option to relocate was better. Talk thru that process to let go instead of chasing the money only.
2:01 how old was he when he retired? One of my biggest problems at 45 is not working. I work projects and I enjoy being able to pass on some jobs. 3:50 would really appreciate some rough figures. What's "good money"? 6:08 Wow! Cost of lving 1,500 USD! I'm going to have to get a flight soon. Was loving BGC, was working there in 2021, stayed at the Marriott for 2months two blocks from the mall and a ton of restaurants. Beautiful area but the women i met were very westernized. I was a walking ATM. 17:20 Spent far too much time in Pattaya. Pheuket, and Bangkok was really a blur. 19:07 ACR card new? 23:54 traveling health from the US. Seven Corners insurance...thanks! 33:07 Dating life -- same, just not meeting the right women. Love the Philippines, I agree the customer services seems off. Had an experience in BGC at a bar and a few bartenders seemed angry about foreigners buying up property. Thanks To both of you, i will definitely visit JJs channel.
The whole key is health insurance or big money saved for emergency, that is the number 1 problem for expats here in cebu. So many have to return to USA cause of no money and health insurance
It always comes down to medical expenses. Always. One may be in good health in their sixties but, if things go downhill in the later years, the medical expenses will ramp up.
I have a family of four with 1 adult child needing a caregiver around 12 hrs a day. Given my situation, is $125K annual passive income before taxes sufficient to have a comfortable life in BGC?
Could you do a video on the cost of living in the province. I’ll be moving to the Philippines in October this year I plan on living in the province because I hate cities I like country life. I’m 45 and retire with a permanent $4+ monthly income.
He mentioned he retired early, however, did not say at what age he retired? What age for him is early? Also, when going through his budget, what monthly salary does he pay his Filipina girlfriend? As it would probably not usual a younger good looking Filipina girl would stay with him for free. They usually want some type of financial benefit. Especially if the guy is a much older foreigner.
15k here in U.S. is either a house mortgage or apartment to rent... that's it! I heard Malaysia is also way cheaper than Philippines.. quality of everything tops it as well.
BGC is a rich place & more expenssive, many places near like subdivisions u can save more money., instead of supermarket u can buy in wet market fresh & not too much expensive., more power nice vedio.,
But some people don’t like that kind of life. Some have better retirement financial status than others. I know in my case I would prefer to retire in a city like BGC.
No more American Dream its gone, i just retired January 3 and moving back to the Philippines, i will be sending my stuff to the Philippines via balikbayan box.
@@kutnahora100 IT CAN GO REALLY FAST TRUST ME HAHAHA. LUCKILY I'VE BEEN LIVING IN THE PI FOR 6 YEARS AND MY THINKING HAS ADJUSTED CLOSER TO THINKING LIKE A FILIPINO WHEN IT COMES TO SPENDING. FOOD IS THE BIGGEST COST BECAUSE WE DON'T EAT FILIPINO STYLE WITH MORE RICE THAN ULAM.
That's a lot of money in the Philippines, but you need to save some from that amount every month bcoz you didn't know when severe inflation hits the Philippines. But you and your family will live comfortably w/ that amount ,
As a retirement specialist. So many Americans are being foolish by staying in the USA 🇺🇸 on a fixed income of say. $4,500 to $6,000 per month. And clipping coupons and scared about inflation. One can live in Thailand. Or the Philippines or Vietnam or Bali for under $1,000 per month per person. Max. And. For someone 60+ and has some retirement cash. This can be placed in an annuity for a lifetime income stream that never runs out.
Never been to the Phillipines but just from youtube seeing 60+ year old men acting like 16 year old girls with the drama videos make Dumaguete unappealing.
Im Moving Back 2026 to Enjoy my $2,000 Monthly Pensions as Single Seniors !!🎉🎉🎉🎉😅😅😅😅i grew up in Manila and and i became Seniors here in the U.S. 😂😂Working Hard here in the U.S. Pay taxes Every year 😮now im Retired 😮😮😂 its time to go back to the Philippines and Enjoy life to the Fullest !!
@@TheSavvyExpat i have seen good condos in pasig makati taguic for 14,15,16,17,20k,but this gringos have money so they are stupid they can flush there money,i know alot of people how live in nice condos with that prices.
China officers a Permanant Residence Visa, which is relatively low in cost. Philippines has SSRV Retirement Visa which REQUIRES ($10,000) to be put in the hands of Philippines banks, where they can revoke on a mere whim.... That is $10,000 down the drain (risk). China offers far more for Retires with a Pension. Philippines Very Restrictive Rules says "my way or the highway". Keep in mind that the golden highway of Retirees Money ($$$$$$$$) rejected by Philippines, speeds on past the Philippines and lands in the Economy of China! Thank you China. That is smart business indeed. This money can be used to expand China's economy and influence in the world. Smart China!!!
That is for Tourist, ID, you have to go to Bureau of Immigration Philippines to obtain it, go there personally, needs Philippines address. I think, if you will stay longer, for Philippines identification.
WOW -- $1500 budget - for 2 - in BGC (!) - but somewhat frugal or thrifty is needed ? --- A single expat who wants to be alone - must be able to live on less than $1500 (?) - '''if''' - he refrains from the extravagance (?) it would seem ? 🤔 Rent is really the big expense here ? > Perhaps a more frugal studio could save some more $ in the budget ?
I see these interviews with people who are retiring on a budget and bragging about saving 6 bucks here and there. How about a contrary view? I am a 67 year old male (single) in very good health. I am thinking of checking out the PI in November, 2024, with the idea of finding a nice Philippina to spend time with. Through Pensions and smart investing I have a passive income of over $300K a year, which is well over $200K after paying taxes. I am sure there are other older men, like myself, who are in the same situation and are tired of western women, and life in the USA. So, I am thinking of making RU-vid videos of my experiences on that kind of income. Unless the Savvy Expat beats me to it!
How is it possible a 20 year old girl will date a 60 plus? of course its for security. Money. The only difference is, the Filipina will return you the favor and will love you for real. But come on, it all starts with $$ and security in their mind. Otherwise, if a 20 plus filipina is a doctor and financially secured, would she date a 60 year old foreigner? absolutely NOT.
The interviewee is better off living in another country, like Thailand or singapore. He is just too focused on his inconveniences. Never heard him discussed about the best the country provided him. I bet the Philippines will not be very sad when you hit the airport. Just leave pls.. Just my two cents.
I feel sorry for the individual that makes life altering decisions solely based on RU-vid videos. The math says that the probability of success is against you.
Why would one do this . A third world country . Street trash all ove , food not so great , , traffic, just about everything a burden . bank system Hospital the pay system , internet , electric on and off. Long line waiting paying bill No on line paying water bill . Etc
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭 *I planned to move back to the Philippines after my wife and I retired*. *Then 3 grandkids came into this world*. *I could not leave the U.S. because I wanted to be a part of at least their childhood years and spoil them a little bit*. *We are now thinking of visiting the Philippines sometime this year*. *We are pretty excited!*
I was about to subscribe to his channel but no, he might be thinking that his channel will grow fast by using different countries in Asia that he’ll traveling at. If you decide to have your base and blog here permanently in the Philippines you’ll definitely earn lots of Filipino subscribers-Filipinos are addicted to social media-put that in your mind. You can only get millions of Filipino subscribers if you’ll permanently and regularly here in Manila. For now, we will not subscribe to you yet, sorry🤪
