Letting your kids help shop for food is one of the best things you can do. It helps them with knowing how to shop, what foods to buy, how they work, and is a great way to start teaching them basic cooking skills.

I love the fact that hannah doesn't clean crazy clean her house before she records. An honest look into a house with 3 kids especially when cooking 3 meals a day for a whole family. If I was cooking 3 meals a day my house would be ridiculous lol. Its already messy and I don't have any kids AND I don't think I have ever made 3 meals a day for anyone including myself.

Tipp for the pasta sauce: I usually fry some onion, add the ground beef to it (could use any meat of choice) along with salt, pepper, dried rosemary, dried sage, dried thyme, dried oregano and dried basil. The meat will eventually release some of its water especially after salting it, so you want the water to evaporate. After the water is completele evaporated, you should fry the meat a little more in it's own fat to enhance the flavour. Grate some carrots finely and add it to the meat and onion mixture. The carrots will need only a few minutes, after that you can add the chopped tomatoes (I add fresh tomatoes, but the canned ones are just as good) along with some tomato purée (it's much more concentrated and will give a stronger tomato flavor to the sauce). Add more of the spices and seasonings if you feel like you need more, and add as much sugar as you feel like (the tomatos are naturally acidy, so the sugar will take away some of the savoury taste). Cook the sauce on low heat until it reduces a little bit and it's good to go. Home made pasta sauce just hits different. It usually takes more time, but it's worth it if you make it on the weekend.

I would say these kids did an amazing job for shopping on their own! My 3yr old would go button happy and wed end up with ridiculous stuff lol! No veggies, probably alot of cake, mac n cheese, and nuggets...your boys are totally winning at the shopping

My tomato sauce as a student is the easiest thing ever. Stir fry some onions and garlic, add a can of diced tomatoes, salt, pepper, dried herbs, and I always add a splash of ketchup for some reason. And then it's pick & choose time, depending on what I have. Corn, tuna, kidney beans, feta cheese (in this case cut back on the salt before), whatever finds it's way into the sauce. Then I let it cook together for a couple of minutes & voilà, pasta.
