Hey man, I've been watching you for a while. I started off playing the guitar and doing all your tutorials and everything and watched how you've grown. I now play the six-string bass and I still watch all of your stuff. I think you're doing great man. You're just doing your own thing. I'm looking forward to listening to the stuff that you put out. You're an amazing artist all the way around. Don't let anybody tell you different
Honestly, whether a musician is online or touring doesn’t matter to me. I only care about if their music is good. A musician is a musician whether or not they tour or play music at home
I totally agree with that. To add another thought: although I‘m all into guitar-/metal-music, for me music has so much different characteristics, styles and methods to express and transport emotions, that it forms an own language. How to use that language to express yourself only belongs to the artist. So in the first place there is no right or wrong. It only matters that you stay true to yourself. And that definately is what Bernth does. ❤
I agree with that. I just find most RU-vidrs tiresome because their talent is there. You can clearly hear it in their videos, but they don't do anything with it. Bernth was at least doing something with it. I don't need to hear Master of Puppets on the clean channel, or Morbid Angel on a ukulele, or 100 Metal Zones plugged in at the same time. Then you get the endless gear reviews where it seems they are all reciting the same script ("Sell your Kemper for a Tonex" for example). I respect the RU-vidrs that make music and release it for us to hear. However, I have no respect for the goofy, gimmicky channels that don't really offer anything of substance. No one has ever gone on a road trip cranking "Guitarists of the 70s/80s Vs. Today." People crank music they love, and I think this is a big reason why there is a big hole in metal music. Because the young talent has chosen to be a glorified guitar salesman, rather than trying to create great works of art. We don't need another person to review the newest gear. We need more people to make art. I'll step off my soapbox now. Rain down on me with your hatred, lol.
Where’s the lie? I don’t see a lie. I see…evolution. Growth. Good stuff! I’m sure Ivory Black is going to kick a lot of ass, too. Congratulations in advance!
I will be super stoked to hear your new band music. But since I found your channel I have been super stoked with all of your guitar contributions! Your tutorials on guitar playing techniques are awesome for the guitar community! Cheers!!!
You are a musician if you play music. You dont even have to play online or on tour; you dont even have to play to somebody else. You dont even have to be good at it. You play music, you are a musician.
I am a 57 budding guitar player. And I love the band's but I love the online guys. The online people, like you, have helped me grow as a guitar player. And I am so happy that you give us so much information. I look forward to all your music. And if you come to Denver, I will see you in concert. Keep it up
You are helping me improve my playing and through doing that for many you're spreading happiness and the love of music, and if a "touring" musician says otherwise, they're not doing the same. Only found your channel a week or so ago and already helping. Keep it up!
personal, your instrumental solo's are some of my favorite pieces. i will keep following all of the media you are in. in person, in a band with others, as fill-in, or solo. you are an amazing and talented musician. thank you for sharing all this with us.
Thank you Bernth for sharing all those stories, its comforting for all of us to hear from someone who actually succeeded as professional guitarist (no matter what happened with all the failures with bands that's up to them not You). I am sure that You put all the effort but no one around You at that specific time did not understand Your vision! Best regards!
I’m very happy for you both professionally and personally. I’m excited to see your journey and growth and wish much success in your newest chapter!! 🎸🎸🎸
This blew my mind. Honestly most everyone I listen to I feel is pretty acclimated in both. Congrats on the band btw! Can’t wait to hear it, much love from Texas
As a solo artist myself, I find great inspiration from your drive and skill mate. You are an awesome influence. I barely record or upload anything now, but I haven't given up my dreams of living off music one day. On my channel I'm experimental. I do anything from hair metal music - to symphonic metal; & classical instrumentals - to electronic music. I'm a self taught artist too & tons of your tutorials have helped me improve my technique & tone on guitar over the years. I'm ever so grateful for that. Keep rockin' on dude
You honestly seem like one of most straightforward people in this space. The divide is really rather silly. From your vids you seem to appreciate both your online audience, and the opportunities on stage you've earned through years of dedication to your craft. Can't wait to hear your new music!
I plucked my first string in 1987. I had eight years of professional instruction and I've been on stage many times but I'm getting older. I don't play in public anymore and I couldn't be happier. The music industry is stupid. All I ever wanted to do was to entertain people. It was never about money. Wearing stupid clothes, drinking and drugs, flying objects, rain, stolen or damaged gear, bimbos with STDs, getting lost or stranded, sleazebag promoters.... all of that is for the birds. Now I entertain my wife and kids. I'm just as much a "musician" as any other.
So then my 23 years of playing guitar doesn’t count since I’m a “bedroom guitarists” I never aspired to be in a band I just wanted to learn to play guitar and play things I enjoying listening to and I’ve written my own stuff as well over the years but to say that I don’t count as a musician cause I’ve done nothing is just stupid
Absolutely. Music is about the joy it brings. If it makes you happy, that's all that matters. If you think it would make other people happy, let them listen. We're all on the same team here. It doesn't have to be a competition.
Honestly I found in comforting seeing you find success online as opposed to touring. I always felt if I learned guitar I only had the one option if I got good enough.
It's a crazy coincidence that you were one of the guys who motivated me to begin learning guitar, and I didn't knew it but we started with almost the same guitar, haha. (B.C. Rich Warlock) Greetings from Brazil, mate! Edit: dude I made this comment before the end of the video and now that I heard of your new band, damn I'm so excited to listen to it! Congratulations!
I love seeing how excited you are! I was going to suggest forming a band with Charles but definitely do what you feel is best for your musical journey dude!
I have to say that I believe you have done everything exactly correct. The industry is always a live and learn experience and as always you have excelled in all of the avenues. Can't wait to hear the new band! 🎉❤ And hopefully you will come to Massachusetts USA! 😊 Have a great day! 💖
Honestly I think you are one of the hardest working musicians out there, you've grown alot in the last few years, I've really enjoyed all of content and really like your drove passion and humble personality... Congrays on forming your new band and can't wait for the release on Thursday, also I would say good luck but I really don't think you need it.
Lies or not, we love you. Thanks for sharing your expertise and creating all the content. Have fun and pursue your dreams, as it's the only thing that matters.
As a guitarist myself, I was taught that we should support each other and treat each other like family. I lost my teacher due to illness and I miss jamming with him everyday. It makes me sad the jealousy and arrogance that many fellow artists show to each other. Whether a person is online or touring, I respect the hard work, dedication, and skill all of you possess and you've inspired me to be better. I would never try to downplay anyone or tell them how they should play. To me you're all great. Do as you please man, and I look forward to what you do next.
You are a huge reason why I even wanted to play guitar, I saw your skill and I just wanted to learn how to play. I started a couple months ago, and hopefully at some point I might be able to make my own songs.
I wish you massive good luck in this new chapter and I can't wait to hear your band. I hope it's not toooo much to work on both stuff. And please never stop playing music even if you don't upload.
Bernth, I have played off and on for a few decades, and I have dropped it many times. The reality is it seriously does not matter what you can do. The best players define their own style, shit, look at Randy Rhodes, George Lynch, hell, just any of the notable guitarists in your eye. Anyone, even I can noodle around, but it is the style you accentuate as your own that really grabs attention and defines you and it never belongs to someone else. Who gives a shit what the "other" musicians say. Blow it out their ass, be you find you. I really enjoyed you with Charles playing what you did. Looking forward to hearing your band and I wish the best of luck.
This was informative but at no point do I feel misled about your career or the direction of your musical journey. There have always been divas in your industry, that’s not bound to change. I found this channel quite by accident some time ago. I was pleased by your playing style, your ability to jump from rock into new age acoustic guitars but most importantly, your fearless approach to experimentation. I could not care less if you were creating a band, or just making solo music in a bathroom. My only concern is that you keep creating, because I am a consumer and I want more! I will continue to purchase your songs from iTunes so I can revel in your work wherever my travels take me. So thank you, for being a part of my life’s soundtrack.
There's nothing really like making music together and when it clicks that's a very nice feeling, but when it doesn't work out it can leave a mark. It shouldn't be a reason not to try it again tho. Actually performing on stage having that audience is unparalleled in forms of expression and doing that with your own band playing your own music is the best feeling.
Its like calling every person that plays at home not a musician because they've never toured. I play and have never toured but still consider myself a guitarist. Not everyone can tour or make it in a band and the best way they can share their knowledge or music is online. Keep up the good work and never stop playing.
I’ve been learning guitar (and drums) for the last 6 months and something I struggle with mentally is how late I started. I had a decent home life as a kid but I was never encouraged to explore my own interests so I didn’t pick up guitar until 22. Now at 22, I’m realizing that being a career musician is always what I’ve wanted, but being behind my peers who started young I feel like I’m at a disadvantage to achieve the level of greatness required to be a successful musician. I’ve been on a certain track for years because it’s what my parents wanted and now I have to make this big change in order to be happy and I need a lot more experience in order to make it work. He started touring at 18 and I’m not even ready to think about touring! Some people start younger, are excellent players, but still take them years to be financially successful. I just have no idea how I’m gonna make it work.
"Why don't you do exactly what you want to do and what fulfills you?" That is the question they should be asking. Anyone online saying you should do this or you should do that probably doesn't have much going on in their own life.
I'll be here, happily listening to anything you put out, my man!! And I seriously want to make one of your live shows, whether Bernth or Ivory Black..even if I have to take a trip to Europe!
A good example of this is Guthrie Govan, who is a studio musician, goes on tour with other people and also has his band, The Aristocrats. He also works in JTC Jam Tracks, and any of them would be a great job in themselves. I have seen him in a small concert hall in Madrid two or three times with The Aristocrats and it is amazing what a good musician and how humble he is. Sorry for putting Guthrie Govan here, I already know it's not about him.
music is music. it shouldn't matter if you tour with a band or play online. music is a form of expression and I'll always respect anyone who is willing to express themselves through any instrument.
Thanks so much for sharing! Algorithm overlords are really working well today apparently cuz this is the second video I’ve seen today where I went “wow I really needed to hear that!”
Imagine being an absolute tool who cares how someone chooses to share their music. As long as youre creating music that people appreciate just be happy their are people that are creating something for you to enjoy.
The only person you can't lie to is yourself. You were always going to return to the thing that made you pick up the instrument in the first place. You already have a vast library of experience to call on and reference now so enjoy your next step with infinitely more confidence than you had when you were younger. It will also help with your tutorials and any other media which you may use... best of luck in your newer identity, from a Liverpool born and bred axe man.
Love everything you do, bro!!! Keep up everything you're doing. In case you didn't know, I'm finding another band, also named ivory black. I don't know if that might cause you any legal troubles with the name or not. Either way, I'm really looking forward to hearing what you guys do. Congrats on the project. You will have my support.
Hell no! I play at the beach down the road and I could care less what you do. Do what you love Bernth!! I have never toured and could care less. ReallyI am just so damned fortunate to have 4 exquisite guitars that I can play wherever the hell I feel like. We love you! I have learned a lot of key dynamics from you. Rock this misery away.
I remember Jeff Beck commenting once that he got bored very easily, which is why I liked him because he was always experimenting. You do this too. As long as you are having fun, nothing else really matters..... Opinions are like rear ends, every one has one. My dad commented, yes, and some of them stink......
I'm so happy that you thought to form a band of your one, I'm impatient to listen to it, but please, never underestimate your work that you did until now,it's great, high level music,I love it,my favorite band until I meet you was Nightwish, now they are second,I prefer listen Bernth😊,so...don't stop Bernth, please ❤
Music is what I love. You give me music, I don’t care what else you do. Seriously, who is actually getting bent out of shape other than people that think they deserve the other person’s success for some reason?
Whenever Someone puts a controversial title as I lied to you , or blah blah exposed , it is an algorithmic trick to crrate exposure. I blame the system. However looking forward to your upcoming work, you are one of the few good musicians I listen to, I like when you said complex but creates emotion , besides paganini, chopin did this really well.
Most of the online musicians actually do play professionally, whether as a "hired gun", a session musician, or as part of one or more bands. All of that is legitimate - not just the "touring live musician".
Personally I couldn’t care whether you’re online or in a band. I like the channel, I like the mad guitar experiments and I like the songs on Spotify. I’d also say that while I’m nowhere near your league with modern gear I can make music ( mostly) in my kitchen on a whole different level than I can with a band. That said I’ve been in bands and that gelled and the music making process was so satisfying. So to paraphrase Bender band, solo internet musician they’re both great choices imho
I've played for years and went through surgeries, addictions among many seemly difficult times and I'm finally settling down (kinda😆) in North Carolina, U.S. My wife and I are at a point where I have more time to learn how to use my picking hand again (right handed) because I had to have my wrist fused so it's confined (?) Basically, I was clicking through RU-vid and saw you. Wow, new genre! You got me pumped again about the guitar. I'm a damn beginner again but I fell in love with your music and I won't stop until I just can't remember my own name🤣I'm lost and if you think you'd be able me plz suggest or HELP if you can, thanks Bernth
It's funny, because I'm old enough to remember when people WISHED there were alternative ways to get their music heard, and the only real way was grinding endlessly on local circuits and hoping a rep would come see a showcase and then sign you on. This freedom of ingress is what people in the 80s and 90s wished for. Now that it's here, we're all just taking shots at eachother. What a time to be alive...
