►VIDEO DESCRIPTION◄
Recently, I just got my 2015 Lexus GX460 back from being lifted, and bumpers trimmed up. Super excited about it so far, and wanted to share a walkaround and show you what to expect if you are lifting your GX as well (especially running a larger tire). This was months in the making to get here, and planning on some more parts soon. Stay tuned and remember to like the video and subscribe if you would like to follow along.
ALSO: More Nismo 370Z content around the corner.
Thanks,
Justin 🤘

Looking great and that tire looks really aggressive for the GX. I did the Bilstein 6112 on the front of my GX and airbag lift in the back because the King wait was so long. I’ll likely upgrade in a year or two as I’m finding their limits and happy with their offroad performance for now.

I saw the initial vid you posted after your purchase where there was a nice green fj40 in the lot. An you said how much you wanted to have the fj. I’ve had three fj40’s. I loved them for what I used them for. I can tell you that the gx is light years ahead of the FJ for day to day use, no comparison, none. The FJ’s are bush trucks. 50 miles per hour max speed, after that your taking your life in your hands. But the FJ is unstoppable, always got me out of it. Like the man said, as trucks get older, they develop gremlins,, fact. I wish I’d have keep a couple of FJ’s, and put them on trailers for off-road . But if you want a daily the GX is superior. That GX you have is very nice. Thanks for sharing the vid., I’m shopping for a GX and trying to figure out which year is best for my purpose’s, there’s lots of GX’s becoming available that have never seen a gravel road, good times !

My general feedback is that I am still trimming stuff here and there. Would have been better if I just went at it with a one and done mentality with chopping the plastics etc. I still find avoidable rubs here and there. My plan is to double back with a video about where I ended up trimming, etc for the larger tires. I can see why people just ditch the running board trim altogether. My plan is to still keep that piece for aesthetics, but secure it slightly differently. Outside of that, its many common trim areas that need to be addressed. I say go bigger, but I am biased 🤘🙂 -Justin

@@alvaromarquez1751 Yep. We were mostly in a time constraint and I have done trimming with other vehicles before, so wasn't a big deal. Now, its just a matter of making time for it. Its mostly trimmed up now. The last pieces are the trim around the sliders that goes up to the front fender area. Because of the way they are connected to the vehicle, its take a little bit of thinking and zip ties to make it rub less. I can see why people just ditch the trim around the sliders in general. Take a little bit of work to keep them.

When you delete airbags to do the lift kit how do you get around the sensors? Won’t the car say check airbags or other stuff on the HUD after?
@NVSTRZ34
@NVSTRZ34 2 года назад
So, my GX did not come with airbags, but the trick is, when you lift your GX, you need to leave most OEM airbag components in still and only take the bags out from what I understand. There were some other really good discussions on GX airbag deletes here: forum.ih8mud.com/threads/lift-installed-rear-air-bag-delete-warning-lights-on.1199919/ Be sure to read that entire thread. I still need to do a tad more clearencing, but I dont fault the lift for that. You just discover rubbing here and there along the while when driving around various conditions. The GX still gets an A++. My Z has been collecting dust as the GX has taken over most driving adventures. Thanks for your comment! For me personally, I found a lot more information on people running the 285/75 combo with good success. I've heard (but not confirmed personally) that it was an easier size to source as well. What I wasn't finding was people running the 285/75 on the 17x9 wheels. Most were actually running larger 35x12 with some clearence issues with the wider wheel. Figured if anything, there would just be less rubbing than I was seeing reported with the larger tires and rolled the dice. GXOR helped too. I typed in and searched around on the 295/70 size, but there wasn't as much feedback for the GX460 compared to the 285/75. Hope that helps! -Justin

It does not retain the lights. You can make some brackets easily and use the stock lights or wire up some aftermarket rock lights. What I have discovered though is that some rock light brands create interference with your key fob. More rubber more cutting needed. You can always go with a smaller tire too.

Where you able to recalibrate the speedometer?
@NVSTRZ34
@NVSTRZ34 2 года назад
This is a really good question. There definitely is a difference in speed readings with these sized tires compared to OEM sizes. I have not really calibrated my speedometer, but I'm not particularly worried about it at the moment. I tend to stay under the limit anyways as a kind of buffer and also go with traffic. My plan currently is to just run a scan gauge or ultra gauge because its a lot easier to adjust with them comparatively. Lots of dead-ends on the topic outside of this solution. Probably why many just use the scan gauge as the workaround. Thanks, Justin

How’s does the lift affect the KDSS??
@NVSTRZ34

Surprisingly very little. The kdss still does a very good job even with the lift installed.

However, some people do experience KDSS lean post lift. They make spacers for that though.

hows the ride compare to stock ones?
@NVSTRZ34
@NVSTRZ34 3 года назад
So, like mentioned in the video, its not a full King coilover set. Because of the crazy long backorders with the King suspension, I am having to run Bilstein 5100's up front while my King fronts were still coming in. My King rears are installed (paired with Toytec 2" springs in the rear) currently. My front King coilovers DID come in and are getting put in this coming Monday. The factors above make it a little hard to compare the Kings, but I can describe the mix of the front Bilstein's and King rears. Up front: I would say that I am very impressed with the Bilstein 5100's up front. I now see why they are so popular. They do ride slightly stiffer on the height setting they are on, but its still very comfortable. They do take on/off-road paths pretty damn decently. A great option for the occasional offroad trips, but also daily driven vehicle. Solid 7.5/10 for how they are set up on my truck. In the rear: The rear King shocks and Toytec springs handle excellent. There is a noticeable difference going over things at speed (with regard to the front vs back end of my GX). The rears feel like they seriously glide over everything you can throw at it. Its definitely way smoother than the front end. You can feel the difference (albeit moderate for most drivers that havent really driven on different suspensions before). At slow speeds, both the front and rear feel almost identical. The Kings shine in mid to higher speed driving. I give the rears 9.5/10. If you like nice suspensions, you will LOVE the Kings. They really were worth the almost year'ish wait for me. Hope this helps. I will review the Kings once the fronts get on next week. -Justin

There was definitely a noticeable change but not crazy bad. I get about 13 City/16 Highway with how I drive. That not using the mpg meter in the cluster. That's calculating miles driven between fillups in both city and highway (trip) environments.

@NVSTRZ34
@NVSTRZ34 2 года назад
@@edhiestand1197 I dont have the itemized list any longer, but I believe it was around $1.5K to $1.6K all in. This includes lift w/ reservoirs/rear springs/UCA/and testing/trimming. You can probably cut out $300-$500 just by doing your own trimming before the lift. Trimming is a little labor intensive if you are serious about not rubbing. That $1.6K does not include a body mount chop if you run larger tires like mine (285/75/17). Also, this is from a shop that specializes in Toyotas, so there is a premium for their services, but it really was turn-key drive out no problems. Nothing to really still sort out major, only little rubbing here and there. Worth it in my case. My personal experience from swapping out my 370Z suspension is that a car lift goes a long way to making the coilover, spring, and UCA install much much easier. I had no problem paying that amount for setup and testing. All the other stuff like lights and RCI skid plate installs (also featured on my channel), etc... I will do myself. Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any other questions you have. Thanks, Justin
