Yes, it's clickbait...
This is in no way an educational video, I just like dinosaurs and talking about them.
Here are a couple youtubers that go to great detail with dinosaurs and just prehistory in general:

one thing that has always bugged me about paleontology is the ocean. imagine how many cool fossils we could find in the Mariana trench along with cuthulu down there. Also imaging how many absolutely MASSIVE boneless organisms like jellyfish and sponges could have existed back then but well never find them because they all either lived to far underwater or just had no bones that could fossilize.
@Jackpesaurus99

I can believe that there is or were some Godzilla size animal down there, seeing how we know more about space than the ocean

Unfortunately, during the Cretaceous, there was no permanent polar ice to fuel thermohaline circulation, which is what allows oxygen to get to the deep sea. The fauna we see down there now are actually Cenozoic arrivals. I can’t say in regards to the Jurassic or Triassic, but thermohaline circulation is important in regards to what can live in the deep sea, so any time without polar ice caps would have little to no complex life in the deep sea.

Feathers shouldn't impact a dinosaur's fear factor. Just look at bears. Teddy bears and grizzly bears are both fuzzy bois, except one will protect you from the monsters under the bed, and the other will make you look like you went through EVERY trap in the Saw franchise. It's not about how they look, it's about what they can do to you. That being said, not everything has to be accurate so it's fine.

9:50 I utterly adore old stop motion dinosaur films, they just give out vibes that few other dinosaur films have matched. The dinosaurs still look awesome to me, despite their inaccuracy. You really feel like you’ve stepped into an alien, hostile, desolate world filled with terrifying and strange alien beasts. It’s almost apocalyptic in a sense. I keep imagining walking these barren, volcanic wastelands, and in the distance I can just make out these bizarre, draconic beast stomping in the distance. The fact we also see very few dinosaurs, with little herding, gives off this desolate, lonely and isolated feel to them. So a dinosaur just randomly showing up is legitimately terrifying event. P.S. shut up about accuracies in films, it doesn’t matter, what matters is the quality of the film, the look of the dinosaurs is secondary or outright tertiary.
@Jackpesaurus99
@Jackpesaurus99 Год назад
Couldn't have said it better myself, I would love a retrosaur style film with today's technology.
@pyrrhusofepirus8491
@pyrrhusofepirus8491 Год назад
@@Jackpesaurus99 Definitely. 65 does appear to almost be that, however, I don’t like all of the shots which I think also added to the vibe. Long story short, just look at the Ceratosaurus vs Triceratops fight in One Million Years BC, I honestly cannot imagine a fight like that done nowadays due to it being relatively toned down and minimalist in the way it’s shot. But it’s got a weight and a realness despite the dinosaurs inaccuracy that makes it one of my favourite dinosaur battles. They honestly feel more like animals then more accurate films. To add a comparison, look at modern dinosaur fights like the Indo vs Ankylosaurus or T-Rex. Ignoring the CGI and looks of the dinosaurs, they’ve got very different feels and vibes to them.
@Jackpesaurus99
@Jackpesaurus99 Год назад
@@pyrrhusofepirus8491 Another thing might be the fact that dinosaur fights in films nowadays are really short, they just sort happen and end abruptly, which I'm aware that's realistic in some cases, but we aren't really given time to see them behave or do something unique or unusual, it's just sort like bite on neck, dodge, bite again, die. Just look at all the Jurassic World films, the fight scenes are super fast and honestly shouldn't even be considered fights: T-rex Vs Carno Carno Vs Sinoceratops Giga Vs T-rex (all three fights) Indom Vs Anky Blue Vs Indo T-rex Vs Indom is the only fight that comes close. What makes the Cerato Vs Trike fight in One Million BC so cool is that we are given time to see them fight, you actually wonder and maybe even get nervous as to who is going to win, and when the fight ends, u almost feel exhausted.
@flightlesslord2688
@flightlesslord2688 Год назад
And the thing is, a lot like Jurassic Park were extrememly accurate for their time. And they're always reconstructed extremely naturally and animalistically. Another staple of old movies like that is super aggressive herbivores, which died down over the years. Which is a shame, because usually herbivores are the dangerous ones. If a carnivore doesnt know what you are itll likely avoid you or curiously play with you (which can be terrifying in its own right, imagine a raven, or cat playing with its food, but then make a human like Ed Regis in the Jurassic Park book, and shits spooky), but if you get anywhere near a herbivore or its young and it doesnt know what you are and feels threatened... you finna die.

Why would anyone think dinosaurs with feathers are less terrifying or no less "cold-blooded" when they, like human serial killers, kill their prey "in cold blood?" Eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, shrikes and, for that matter, the fiercely territorial hummingbirds are not terrifying (to their prey or to other birds)? And then you've got the modern cassowaries, ostriches (which though omnivorous can stomp you to death, as a coworker in a zoo I worked in was a victim, though fortunately not to death). And then you've got the ancient terror birds, the phorusrhacids of prehistoric South America.

Can I leave my opinion here? I like inaccurate dinosaurs, but my problem is that they're ugly (Being treated like monsters is something I'm getting used to) I just take the foot of the Jurassic Franchise for the simple fact that they are no longer connected to science as was Jurassic Park, which is worth remembering that it was the first paleomedia of the time that helped to popularize what was accurate at the time (Including the Bird-Dinosaur relationship, so much so that today we know that birds are a group of theropod dinosaurs). Oh and documentaries that simply treat dinosaurs as monsters are also bad for being documentaries that are supposed to be educational.

Of course u can leave ur opinion, that's the point of commenting. For me personally I just don't care wether they make them monsters or animals, I like both. People also have a misconception that all non-Dinosaurs disappeared as soon as an asteroid hit 66 million years ago and possibly even on the same day, but the last Triceratops fossils are from the 65.5 million year old layer and stayed alive about half a million years after the impact.

3:41 You know not to mention that dinosaurs 'went extinct', and then pretty much immediately after went on to become the most species rich vertebrates on land... Like, birds are arguably more successful than all other dinosaurs. They're also pretty bloody cool. A peregrine falcon, owl or eagle are all at least just as cool as a t-rex, but then again a t-rex doesnt punch its prey out the sky at 300mph, then rip its throat out with a sabre-toothed beak. Dinosaurs didnt get nerfed, they just became a different kind of OP. Side note, I think feathered dinosaurs look even more like majestic, mythical creatures. Like gryphons, pheonixes, giant eagles or thunderbirds, with various amounts of dragon on top. But of course the thing that makes these animals more amazing is that they're real animals, that we have the privilege to even know about and study, never mind knowing an ever-growing and more complete picture of them with each passing year. The no feathers brigade are literally just man children who I'm sad cant see the beauty in the real animals like the rest of us. Oo also Tim Haines (the guy behind Walking With) and his production team are also making a doc on the big extinction events... so that should be fun and totally not depressing

I love dinosaurs ever since I was a kid my only issue is the fans and no matter if it’s the RU-vidrs or in person or whoever they want to make dinosaurs either look scary, looking or make all dinosaurs have feathers or vice versa and also huge argue debates really and yes, I know that it is part of paleontology sometimes that there are debates and discussions but it can be very annoying at times it’s like leave the topic alone and move on to something else but now in some topics, they always come back to it or something. My point is is that I wish that we can just respect everyone but unfortunately it doesn’t work like that.

I really love this, just someone info-dumping about dinosaurs in media, it's great I will say though that I really love the Jurassic World films, or at least the first two. I do genuinely believe that they are far more intelligent and well-made than people give them credit for (obviously not perfect or surpassing the first but that's a monumental task that you can't recreate and the films even acknowledge this in the story) but by God did I hate Dominion, it is the worst of the 6 in my opinion and I don't even want to buy it for completionist's sake. It undermined literally everything that came before it and I'm still not over it
@Jackpesaurus99
@Jackpesaurus99 Год назад

@@Jackpesaurus99 I don't think it was a complete disaster, the Malta chase scene was really fun for example, but it felt like they got cold feet and didn't take the plunge they were planning on with Fallen Kingdom after the backlash it received, e.g. dinosaurs being a global threat (instead it's bugs), Maisie being a clone (she is but not in _that_ way), we're taking it to the mainland (still gonna be in a confined space though), we can't coexist and any attempt to do so will bring about inevitable ecological collapse (actually we can coexist a-okay)
