The steel pointer pen I use is the Zebra F-701, which costs a bit more than a typical pen but it's money well spent in my opinion. It won't break and you can buy replacement ink cartridges. Just don't lose it!

Finally, someone who actually wears their watch - not some paid influencer! I'm with you on so many points. I work in a feed/farm equip. warehouse - lots of bangs, scraps, dust, and grime. 1) G-Shock needs to make highly legible watches for those who use them as tools. The negative displays are fine for the fashionistas. 2) I think resin straps are safer around rotary tools because they'll break off easier than a nato/nylon strap. Nato straps also absorb sweat and stink. 3) I could care less if my glass is scratched as long as the watch is legible. I do take my G-Shocks and wash them with Dawn, water, and a toothbrush about once a week.

So I have my gw9500, and I have a job that is rough on my watches. I went to Amazon and got a crystal protector for mine. When you order it, it comes with 3 protectors. I have changed mine out once since putting it on because I had to service a piece of equipment, and it got pretty banged up while doing it. But when I peeled the scratched one off, the crystal of the watch looked brand new. I highly recommend getting a pack of them if you are rough on watches like me.

I find 9500 very attractive. I like my Rangeman 9400, but that big flat backside results in big holes at the sides of the wrist, I have 17cm wrist. It's like the watch is intended for 20+ cm wrists. But the Mudman 9500 fits good even on smaller wrist. I like the large digits on 9500. Mudman 9500 actually looks like a successor to Rangeman 9400.

I received Mudman 9500 a few days ago. It's a good replacement for Rangeman 9400. The ~2cm shorter flat surface on backside makes it fitting the wrist very good! But 9400 has a better protection of the crystal from the sides because of higher edges.

Great video Jim and the view of the dessert scene which goes perfect for this watch. You’ve mentioned the uncomfortable straps, I removed both straps but left the connectors and put a 5 ring zulu strap. It is even more comfortable and looks awesome along with the added hardware. Until jaysandkays comes out with their own nato strap adapters, this will do 👍

I think you can't have that duplex LCD compass and perfect anti-glare. Seems like the perfect upgrade to the GW-9400.

I appreciate your reviews on this watch. No one is making deep videos like this. Very helpful. The 9400 is not classified as mud resistant by Casio but some people or sources say that it is still mud and dust resistant due to the shock base and construction. Thoughts on this the 9400 being mud resistant? The glare is a deal breaker for me unless the 9400 is indeed not mud and dust resistant. Ridiculous casio did not address this issue.

I think they made the 9400 TOO good so they dropped the mud resist to make their other watches look better. I like the Mudman better but I am in the minority. Most guys like the 9400 better. They’re both good with pros and cons. You really can’t go wrong. Just avoid the negative displays.

Don't worry about the glare, that's just a moment... a watch without glare simply doesn't exist, it's the law of physics... that crystal didn't absorb the light, that's impossible, it just redirected it somewhere else, more or less. At that price tag, it's very nice to see a shoulders (a wings), that's good for a balance at the wrist, without that it would be top heavy very probably. In my opinion that Mud Boy is one of the last Casio watches which is built only for one purpose - to just do the job and withstand anything with no question. Very Like

I must admit to being so very Ridiculously fond of the 'Classic' but stiffer "Old School" Mudman button protectors that I purposely avoided getting the "better" Rangemaster model I thought I had "surely" wanted and so especially after reading about the Rangemaster's O-ring button gaskets maintenance requirements that supposedly need replacing every few years; What?! Nope, Thank You, let "Shirley" have it then. Sometimes "Less is More". I would dare to wager that the simpler more "primitive" Mudman membrane button covers are likely tougher and more reliable long term and can be even changed out to new again with just a new bezel cover replacement. Like I said, I am very fond of the older Mudman buttons to the point of being much happier with an older or "lesser" model just to have them to protect the watch from chocolate syrup or strawberry jam residues or even the occasional sick little kid's projectile vomiting if nothing else. Thank You G-Shock for "Keeping it Real" so that some of us don't have to necessarily wear hefty Divers watches all day long..."Not that there's anything WRONG with that!" as Jerry Seinfeld said.

I hear what you’re saying because I have a King, the GXW-56, and it doesn’t have the gaskets the case just seals off the buttons! The gaskets seem over engineered.

Great review Jim, love every second of your review 👍 I use GW-9500-1A4JF (Orange), the best G-Shock I have ever purchased 😁 It's a beautiful watch. I understand some does not like the negative display, but I am used to it. No problem at all.

I’m a huge fan of this watch also Jim - it’s my daily wear as a dairy farmer and is as close to perfect as I have ever found in a G Shock. I only ever swap it out occasionally for a retro G Shock when I want something with a little less wrist presence (fit more easily under a jacket cuff etc).

I wear the green negative display one gw_9500 and I deal with it, I rate mine 5 star as it’s bad a$$ agree to get positive display but the green tacticool was what I wanted, great videos as always keep up the great work! I also have to say that I had a titanium pro trek bought new in 2005, a PRG 80T and it died in 2022 when a watch tech changed the battery and messed it up😢, this mudman really is the spiritual successor to that watch in every way almost identical menus etc, I just want Casio to bring back all the titanium watches and I am saddened to see the pathetic state of where the modern pro trek is

Those titanium ProTrek look nice! I have an eBay alarm set for the ProTrek prw-50t. The problem with Casio and titanium is that when they put it on a GShock they jack the price up to $1200.

looking for the toughest longest lasting of these three models, GBD-H1000, GBD-H2000, and GW-9500, thoughts? needing it to last at least 10 years. No requirements for fitness stuff. just Nav, ABC, Solar and Multiband

The Mudman GW-9500 is the toughest and longest lasting hands down. But it doesn’t offer navigation. In fact none of them really offer navigation. The GBD watches use the gps to report how far you’ve walked or ran. The GW-9500 is a much more basic standalone watch.

Nice review . How are buttons? I have GWG 1000 and all buttons less or more have sank..especially the light button..takes ages to come back once pressed..well the watch is old enough but..still it's pissing me off...😅

That's a really good question! So far the buttons are good since they are mud resist and I can press them while wearing gloves. Long term I don't know. But the cushioning could wear out like on your gwg1000. We shall see!

Enjoy your videos! Have you considered putting a film screen on to protect from scratches? Like a phone, in zjapaj we got tons of film protectors, and you can’t tell they’re on, but no dings on my Gshocks. But the film does affect the solar charging on the GBH 2000 for me.

"Holy Schnikes!" Yes, then I must suppose that the Lord HAS ALWAYS been protecting you, Thank God. I was also exposed to some pretty nasty stuff daily when I was working in shoe repairs as a young Lad under my Dad but I read the disturbing Warnings on all the spray bottles, chemical, glue and Toluene (aka glue thinner) containers and realized that I needed to wear chemical resistant gloves and a filter mask when necessary. We even had regular FDNY Inspector visits for our fire extinguishers ect. and we were also duly advised on how to safely store the flammables when not in use and overnight. My Dad was from the "Old Country" and not very adept at English literature so he never warned me about potential nerve and brain damage, so.@@JimKinkade

It was a joke! I dont baby my GShocks. It's a moot point now anyway. I have sold my GW-9500. Bought a Protrek PRW-35 as a beater instead. Same functions but with a clearer display. Still have a GWG-100 if I need someting more rugged.@@davidliftsheavycircles
