Bruh the spirit is such a funny character to me. Imagine being a ghost and all you do is hang out outside a monster’s lair so you can roast the shit out of it the second it goes outside
i loved how this game did the monster's perspective. the way it finds normal human things perverse, the almost innocent and childlike way it reaches out and gets excited about pebbles, how its not only intelligent but somewhat mild-mannered and sympathetic, yet at its core irredeemably an existence that fails to and could never coexist with humans. even though it doesnt quite understand the gravity of his 'feeding', the player certainly does. and the moment it started to 'fall' for marie, immediately recalled how the creature was 'born' from a human female. a very chilling meet-cute for sure. still you cant help but find this creature likeable. id love to see more games from this developer, i love the style of the game!
Holy crap! I was wondering why it's creator looked like a human female corpse 😮! Definitely let's us know in a way how these creatures "reproduce" 😰. Again like you said the creature is oddly likeable despite it's horrible actions toward Marie and the other humans 🤔.
“You can’t help but find this creature likable.” ^ Hello, Ordo Xenos? May I speak to an Inquisitorial Representative? I’d like to file an anonymous tip.
One thing I find interesting about the story is the implication that this monster is somehow demonic in nature, judging from the ritual and its effect on him, but that he doesn't seem to be aware of it himself. It's just the way he exists, it hurts him but he doesn't have the capacity to understand why.
In the DLC, it's revealed the "spirit" is in fact an totem with the word "spirit" etched onto it's forehead. And some guy gets stuck in the cave and saved by some demon that curses him into the monster, so the monster is kinda occulty
I think is not that the monster is short but that it moves crawling and gets as tall as a person when standing judging for the attacks to the face of people. One could think that it jumts on to the faces but doesn't seem like that when attacks the girl at the end, she stands like the monster is towering over her.
@Purple Citrine catch me sprinting through wheat fields as I'm chased by either pissed off roosters or a dude dressed like a scarecrow tryna kill me with a sickle. Yee-haw, indeed. (Joke. I'm from Texas, I know what you mean)
When he started talking about the pebbles and stroking the pebbles my mind immediately wandered to "I like rusty spoons" and now I'm extremely uncomfortable
Because both this game's illustration and script were made by A.I auto generator. You can notice how incoherent it is. The dev is just one guy, he only knows how to make 3d stuff, which the 3d of this game is the only human-made part.
@@iloveanothermanswives4278 I can’t find anything related to this on his social media or website I’m gonna need to see some proof about that before I take that at face value
@@iloveanothermanswives4278 I suppose I can see that, especially for the illustrations, but I assumed the incoherent aspects of the writing came from the fact that you're playing as some subterranean nightmare creature that eats people and collects skulls for the skull thro- *ahem* skull room.
feet are the least lovecraftian horror one encounters when it comes to kinks.. you'd go mad with revelation before we even hit the second-tier of the iceberg.. "we have such sights to show you".
Reminds me of a creepypasta where there was an old house with really crappy plumbing. Turns out it was just a baby that grew into the pipes and was feeding off of droppings down the garbage disposal.
@@hell_march6652 carrion is awesome, reverse horror is very underrated. It can make you feel like a badass unknown monstrosity that outsmarts every attempt to harm it, while also shocking you as you watch your own character do awful things
Its kinda funny how even though this creature and us humans are so very different, we can still agree on just how annoying it is when your neighours start renovating.xD
At first i thought the monster is like a Gollum, then after you called it a maggot i imagined it as a giant cockroach to finally go back to the Gollum theory when the monster said something about its teeth.
To rephrase what Joel said, in case anyone else was confused like I was: the creature we play was born from a leech, a leech that was eating the corpse of that first woman, but we are not a leech (at least in shape, seeing as we have fingers, teeth, and a breathing pattern that indicates the use of lungs; we might otherwise possess leech-like attributes)
So the creature we follow is the one we see in the Ending One? A worm with a human like torso and arms? He did talk about having arms and eyes during the game (unlike worms), but it also talked about crawling and getting out of the "woman" corpse so he has some worm like parts, so I think it fits with that creature's appearence. He isn't small either then, in fact he is probably large, if you thing about it a person crawling on the gorund wouldn't such a high point of view, but if we have a very big human half then it makes sense that while he is crawling he still has a relatively high view point and can also straighten up his body and go for the kill by pouncing on the victim like we see with Mary that is assaulted from something bigger then her. Based on the ritual thing we can guess he is either a demon or lovercraftian abomination. He does give the felling of a lovecraftian entity so I guess that is what he is. Probably he was only a normal maggot that ended up eating a lovecraftian replicant kind of monster that was slumbering or recoveing from wounds in the cave. The creature probably didn't notice the maggot until it was too late and it was bigger then her thanks to mystic property of a supernatural being's flesh. The voices might also be coming from actual lovecraftian creatures that like what he says when he talks about "having figured out it his place and objective" just want him to embrace his nature and wreack avoch or reproduce.
@@GRtogetaBIC Well, we don’t know where the body came from. Maybe it was first in a swamp, or the woman initially died in a swamp, and then was buried. (But yes there are ground dwelling leeches 🙃)
It starts off like that under-the-bed photographic adventure game, then dips into first-person stealth-but-not-really, and (via a quick Hungry Lamu detour) leads to multiple endings. Solid game, raised a step by the writing and characterisation. I, too, liked the nice pebble collection. They're smooth and cool and weighted.
Parasocial tunnel dweller that reads books. At least he takes his work seriously. (I think Ending 1 is a picture of the protagmonster.) Shouldn't have forgotten the candles! Edit: I really liked the transition from point and click to 3D. That was pretty cool.
Wow. This is pretty clearly based on the novel _Grendel_ by John Gardner that novel itself of course based on the ancient epic _Beowulf_ Grendel being one of my favorite novels of all time. The skull-mask character we keep running into even plays the role of “The Dragon” (After Beowulf pulls off his arm) *AAAAIUUUURRGGH POOR GRENDEL’S HAD AN ACCIDENT* _so may you all…_
That goddamn novel haunted me on online English classes for a real long time, having me analyze the differences in the two narratives and perspectives. Would read again.
@@RequiemPoete lmao I forgot about the goat! Staring at me with his stupid, slack face. Chewing his grass. I pound my immense fists on the ground and roar. He doesn’t move. Just stands there, dumb as always, chewing his damnable grass. Edit oh uh. As an aside Grendel is not what you might traditionally consider “horror”. It’s really more of a “horror tragedy” as while the main character IS indeed a horrific monster who stalks the hills and villages of early European settlements murdering and eating it is also largely contemplative and thoughtful. He, Grendel, is burdened by the seed of sin. His mother, a malformed monster in her own right, and The Dragon (who rants for hours about things that don’t matter but whom sees all) are the last vestiges of The Wild and of the evil of something like the Children of Lilith (Adam’s second, evil wife) as far as I can recall. I really need to reread this. It’s one of my favorite all time books but I haven’t read it in almost two decades. Most tragic thing about this book, though, is that the author, Jon Gardner, if I remember died in a motorcycle accident not long after its completion meaning we got this one masterpiece and no more. Aaaaaand I just realized the irony of Grendel’s last words on the mountain [poor Grendel’s had an accident, so may you all] when thinking about the death of the author. Oof.
Surprised that there isn't an ending where you spare Marie, or where you yourself aren't destroyed. Also, would have liked to have been able to the player character's appearance
This was fantastic. I feel like I could talk about this for quite a while regarding the feelings it stirred up in me, but I'll try to keep it brief. This has an amazing sense of claustrophobia to begin with - there were a few moments where I felt my own breathing change when you were scurrying through the different paths/holes. And then when you go into the home I felt agoraphobic. It felt wide open and scary and the fact that I was feeling exactly what the character was feeling is a feat worthy of praise. I also love that you do not know what sort of being you are. There are so many unexplained mysteries in this and that's perfect! We live in an age where everything has to be explained and I think that sucks a lot of mystery and charm out of things. The descriptions about your 'mother' and how you would eat it and it would keep growing back.. So unsettling and odd. And while I really want to know more, I'm glad that I likely won't ever get to know more. With most things I need to also leave some criticism because that's how I roll! I think the one thing I didn't like was how it ended with the humans - they simply forgot candles? The people who have been planning to capture this creature for who knows how long and they forget something incredibly important that could fit in your pocket? I'd like a less silly reason as to why they fail. Otherwise, this was fantastic and I really want to see what the dev makes next.
The ritual part, and the symbols used.. I recognized where those where from.. The being you are supposed to be is not a random monster but a demon. A lesser demon but one none the less. ( Well, More like minor demon, calling it a lesser is like an insult to others of that level. )
The comment about the "dark box" is interesting, Tvs nowadays are made so the only show light in the human visible spectrum, so many animals with different visible spectrums either see very weird things in the tv, or blackness (yes, your cats and dogs cannot really see what the shit you staring at in your screen, and they think you are weird for it but they love you anyway, unless you have an old tube tv thats it)
What that can't be right? You see video's all the time of cats and dogs tracking the movement of an animal on a tv nature documentary. Heck I put videos of mice on my tablet and my cat loves watching that.
@@Parasolhyena They dont see exactly what you see. As far as you know they only seeing a colored shape move in a mostly black screen, doesnt mean they see anything even close to similar to what you are seeing or that they are reacting to it in the way they do because of what you see and not just becasue of very basic shape recognition. They dont see the same frequencies of light we do, although we share some. Older tvs can be seen by them perfectly simply because the image isnt shown in selective frequencies like newer are by design. Its not a "cant be right" it is a "its what it is",you dont know what your pets or those in vids really see, its already hard to say we humans see the same things visually, straight away impossible to tell the same from other species. That is also why this game says the black box thing, its saying the creature cant see the frequencies of light the tv shows, and so he only sees people staring at a black screen (my guess is the dev studies or is into zoology or something of the kind given other stuff he dwells on about the creature behavior)
They'll certainly see the color differently from us, yes, but cats and dogs do see TV. They have a different color spectrum, but the colors are the least important part to them, it's the shapes and patterns and movement. They notably can't see red-oranges, but that doesn't mean it's just black, it means that it's gray and muddy because they can still see the light but not the color of that light. Our screens are made up of red, blue, and green light because those 3 colors come together ontop of black to make white. They can't see red, but blues and greens are plenty to make out what's going on, people are color blind and many degrees of regular blindness and still watch TV.
Ive pointed out throu my second answer that yes dogs and cats can see "something", while in my first comment i was refering to animals in general. But, that they can see something doesnt mean, first, that they comprehend it because lots of stuff becomes invisible or strange without the diverse frequencies of light they cant see (saying "they dong see x color is very generalistic, although it caaaan be used in this situation albeit not completely correct, so i just prefer sticking to frequencies). Dogs perhaps understand it a bit more, but for the most part, they only see moving shapes that either they will ignore or find as a short lived entertainment. As humans we tend to confuse the reaction of other animals throu our personal lenses, because cognition and intelligence hardly can perceive anything different to itself. Animals arent stupid, but their reaction to stuff cant always be comprehended or explained under our perception, because they perceive different stuff, like the cat and the mouse exemple the first guy who responded made, the cat isnt seeing a mouse, its just seeing a thing that moves and that is entertaining, the dog may comprehend more complexe stuff, but for the most part its a lackluster and still confusing mess, and im pretty sure unless the dog has little to entertain itself and is barely ever allowed to interact with other dogs will it find much entertainment in the silly black box, because it cannot show it anything it doesnt already have. In many cases im pretty sure its sound that catches the attention of a dog the most anyway
"Strange metal beasts and hideous structures made of trees, these bizarre things I had no language for. And then the construction contractors with their goddamn backhoes and pneumatic drills!"
I’m kinda disappointed that Manly didn’t analyze why you get different endings from different choices. Unless they don’t have a clear causation connection, and the choices simply facilitate getting a different ending.
so does the monster sexually assault the still alive girl and hold her hostage, or does he kill her and keep her remains as a bang object to plant his future kids into?
I am literally a year late but a fair few invertebrates can reproduce asexually. It looks like the monster is some kind of worm or possibly more of a slug thing which would make sense for the whole self-fertilisation route. If we assume that he is some kind of slug then he likely used her remains to lay his eggs in. Slugs often like to lay their eggs in moist places so I can imagine a dead, rotting body is a pretty good place for them.
i had my phone set to "comfort view" blue light filter thing it changes the tint//color of the phone screen and ontop of this video the colors were more dingy brown green yellow. holy fuck it looks so good, it adds an extra layer to the creepiness
Description: I Live Under Your House is a horror game where you're a horrific monster that lives under someone's house and now you're coming up to the surface to visit them ManlyBadassHero: *gently in my ears* Hey everyone
Wow, they really nailed the misunderstood monster/Frankenstein vibe with this game. It's wild how many parallels I see between this game and one of Mary Shelly's classics.
The whole time I'm watching this, I just can't shake the fact it's just the Grinch except he actually gives in to his intrusive thoughts. I like pebbles too though, I don't blame him lmao Edit: typo
