A FORMER professional wrestler lives with a giant alligator inside her house - and she even shares a bed with him. The 6 foot 6 inch, 200lbs reptile named Rambo not only has his own room in the house, he also watches TV on the sofa and eats dinner at the kitchen table. Mary Thorn, 57, adopted her beloved pet Rambo 13 years ago, rescuing him from imminent death. Now the 17-year-old gator freely walks inside the house, bosses the dogs around and loves to be the centre of attention. Rambo, who Mary often dresses up in leather jackets and sunglasses, is potty trained, he obeys 70 commands and poses “no threat to humans”. Mary, who resides in Lakeland, Florida, considers Rambo as a significant part of her family and says she has a special bond with the gator - who responds to her sign language.

Unfortunately, she's very mistaken by doing that as she's blocking out necessary UVA/UVB rays he needs for health. She's actually harming him not protecting him.

@@mads7710 I'm aware that she believes this to be fact but it isn't. Alligators just like all reptiles require a good amount of UVA/UVB for proper mental and physical health. At the end of the day while she clearly cares she's doing more harm than good in many ways. Unfortunately, well-meaning reptile owners unknowingly neglecting their animals is a very common scenario due to rampant misinformation about ectothermic animals such as reptiles.

It’s nature, not training. You can’t reliably train a huge host of animals, but there are outliers like this that their nature allows a coexistence with humans. There’s another guy with a crocodile he nursed back to health that had a special bond with him , South America iirc, and it was another cool outlier of behavior. Those same outliers are what led wolves to be dogs over the course of thousands of years

Just because humans and some mammals close their eyes when feeling pleasure doesn't mean it's the same here. Crocodilian / reptile brains are extremely simple and they lack many of the specialized parts that make up mammalian brains. They don't have enough brainpower to conceptualize trust. You can't project human emotions onto reptiles... The only reason why they close their eyes is to protect them from harm whenever something comes close to the eyes...

@@square7563 Sure, they have a concept of danger and safety, I never said that they did'nt... They can recognize danger and avoid it. Nearly all animals have it, even simple insects and worms... I was talking about concepts such as love, trust and emotional comfort when being petted... Unfortunately, they don't have those, and closing their eyes when being petted is just a reflex to protect them from possible danger, which they do recognize as you just said...

I’m a Native Floridian. I’m without words because I’ve never seen a gator that was able to be trusted this way. It boggles my mind how it really seems as if she really has tamed the beast. That long without aggressive behavior is remarkable. She’s one of a kind for sure. It’s very inspiring to see this I regret the hundreds of opportunities I missed believing they all couldn’t be anything but vicious beasts.

There's a guy named Joe Henney in PA who rescued a gator that was found in a lake at Disney. His name is Wally, and he is Henney's emotional support animal. Like this lady, he battled major depression. Wally will not bite, and no one knows why... he loves to be held and kissed, and he even goes to schools and kids pet him. Henney does caution people that he wouldn't trust any other gator.

What greater act of good could any human being do than to love and protect the helpless and sick animals that are brought to us and that desperately need our help, whether it is a dog or an alligator? Does an abandoned and abused alligator have less right to human love and care than any other animal? To be honest, this woman is doing one of the most noble and most human acts anyone could do. I have lot more respect and admiration for her than any of the politicians, pop singers or celebrities that we are all supposed to admire.

I can’t help but love this woman, her dedication to her lost loved ones and how she loves her animals. She may be a bit crazy keeping gators but she keeps gators who have been hurt or abused and tries to give them a good life. You can tell she loves them.

Exotic animal ownership is a risky thing, however when you know the respect and care needed, it can be beautiful. She has a beautiful relationship with him and understands the habitat he needs. I love it when people put animals first. It’s such a beautiful story, and I hope to be able to rescue an exotic animal in need one day. ❤️

Wonderful video ! Great lady. All of these people saying that she's keeping the gators from living a normal life need to listen to the story and realize that the gators she SAVES are handicapped and /or abused prior to her stepping in. It's the people who initially abused these creatures who are to blame. Her gators obviously love her .We need more beautiful, "crazy" people like her in this sad, cruel world.
